That's weird. Sadly, I've not played 4.1 enough to spawn them, as I just tested it to make sure everything was where I expected it. Weird that they won't spawn now that they have huge biomes to spawn in, while they were VERY persistently spawning when the biomes were smaller (well, at least ocelots were. I never got any wolves).
I'm on vacation right now, so I'm going to run some tests. However my first wonder is: Did you upgrade Minecraft when you upgraded the map? Maybe it's not a difference between 4.0 and 4.1, but a difference between 1.4 and 1.5.
Well ya, I got 1.5.1 MC and i didn't play this map until I got 1.5.1 of MC...so I don't think there is anything there, but I haven't played 4.0 since going from 1.4.7 to 1.5.1 so I'm not totally sure there. But let me know your results on your on testing.

I'm doing some play on my 4.1 map (running MC 1.5.1, of course). I'll let you know whether I see any spawning issues. Currently working on my next generation MegaFarm:
Same as the old, I've expanded the size by one block, so that I have a 3x3 golem hole in the middle (I used to get golems bumping into each other with the 2x2, preventing each other from falling in).
I'm also building it 8 blocks above the water, so that I can build a golem kill hole without having scuba gear:
I have about half of one layer of doors, just to get the multiplying started. The row of block above is the right height to place downward-facing pistons, when I get them. Until then, it can be used to place sand. That means I only have to have 1.5 block high walls.
well, I still haven't had any luck with spawning wolves and/or ocelots on my map, and its disturbing as all my plans for expansion and stuff include having them tamed and whatnot so I'm kinda in a stalemate on my 4.1 map...in the meantime, I tried playing your pancake map 5th, and I must say this about your map......Your map is so bloody EVIL!!!!!
Well it seems that 1.5.2 is coming out or is already out, I'm not sure, but as usual i'm not upgrading till my lovely and most required mods are updated...

Hey 5thHorseman, Have you done any testing on the problem we discussed about spawning issues of Wolves and Ocelots? Now that 1.5.2 is out, I may do some testing of my own to see if I can get any to spawn again...I hope to get some as all my plans for progression of my Oceanblock "island" requires me to have ocelots and wolves tamed...
Someone I saw on a Let's Play somewhere used ladders.
That was probably me you're thinking about, since I used ladders back when I did a LP of Oceanblock 4.0. And I'm thinking of doing a 4.1 LP soon, only having things done a little different than last time.

actually it was 3.0, I remember you You were one of the first to do a LP of that map and if I recall correctly are the very first one to complete it (minus a brown mushroom but that was my fault!)
You may be interested in my other map, Pancake Survival. It's like OceanBlock, except it's not on a block and there's no ocean. And the order you have to do things is totally different. Oh, and there are far more chances to die.
Well, my lack of reliable internet is what prevents me from doing a LP of Oceanblock 4.1. As everything i've done so far in 4.1 is different then what I did in my LP of 4.0.......Now to try and get some wolves/ocelots to spawn... >.<

Yeah, this is definitely not Skyblock. Started a few minutes ago, and found out most things are a bit more demanding, plus a little less leeway-- I like it! Very clever.
Question: Do all of the starting villagers have the same trades?

Yes. I actually made those villagers using a "shops" tool in MCEdit.
Note: Their starting trades (paper and redstone) are the same, but any subsequent trades will be random.

And thanks!
Y'know, IF you do a 4.2 version (taking advantage of the 1.6 stuff, maybe), you might want to give the second villager a less common trade. With my MegaVillage, I have several offering redstone. But if the second villager offered, say, a silk touch book, that would be awesome. That way, you couldn't use it until you got enough villagers to harvest quite a few iron golems for an anvil. Just a thought.

Not a horrible idea, I'll think on it. Plus, with a rarer trade, maybe people would stop letting them die so much and then realize six hours later that they are actually important
Hiya guys, I have 2 topics to mention today...the first is an interesting invention I came up with using the daylight sensor, and the second is an update for the wolf/ocelot issue we talked about before.
1) While waiting for wolves and ocelots to spawn, I started to think of ways to implement the new daylight sensor (well, not new as of this exact moment, but new for MC 1.5) and I came up with an interesting contraption. It came to me when I was watching my villagers group up in a corner when night fell...and seen 1 or 2 glitching through the wall, and was thinking of ways to keep them from doing that, so I put 2 and 2 together, and aside from making 5, I hopped over to my testing grounds (a super-flat creative map where I test all my inventions before I actually try building it, so I don't waste and resources) and created the Villager Grouper...(name not fully developed lol) This invention will make all villagers group together into the center of their area at night rather than against the wall causing them to glitch through it occasionally. This is done with water, 4 pistons at each corner of the villager holding areas, and a Daylight sensor sitting on top of each piston. Below you can see some screenshots of what I'm talking about.
Here is the daytime and nighttime pics of the contraption in my testing grounds
Here is the results of making that same contraption in my OceanBlock map.
If you want more info, or maybe a tutorial, lemme know
2) On to the update on the wolf and ocelot issue...after a few hours of frustration at nothing spawning, I thought I'd see if i can get hostile mobs to spawn in the biomes, so I removed all torches and jack-o-lanterns from the biomes and went back to my camping spot around 30 blocks away, and waiting for about 3 full night-cycles, and nothing at all spawned, no zombies looking for brains, no skeletons looking for someone to shoot, and no creepers looking for hugs. So I crafted a compass and noticed that it pointed straight at the center point of the island. With this in thought i came up with the theory of "Spawn Protection" the fact that way early on in my endeavors of survival, I never got any animals to spawn until i made a spawning pad around 30 blocks away from the 4 biomes. then got animals galore, and also the fact that nothing was spawning in the mushroom biome, even though there were no torches near the biome except for 1 on top of the four giant mushrooms. So I thought that I might get that NBTexplorer program and move that spot that the compass was pointing to somewhere else (not too far, in case I die and my bed is either gone or in a bad location). then try to see if I can get anything to spawn in any of the 4 biomes. If any of you guys would also like to test my theory, go ahead and let me know if you had any luck, as I'm at my wits end on this topic so I'm going to try it.
Slytherite, I am playing with 13w19a snapshot and I can tell you that the animals glitch seems to have stopped, at least with fences. They just get kind of "stuck" against a fence, but if you force them to move, they do. I didn't notice any villager dying either because of the walls. At night they rush inside the big house I have at a great speed, which is very funny.
Your idea looks very interesting though. I think I'll try it .
Ya I don't mess with snapshots outside of test worlds...but if you need any help with my Villager grouper thingamajig...(it needs a better name) I can possibly make a tutorial video or something.

Slytherite, I have (semi) bad news for you: We discovered and fixed the spawnpoint problem in the newest version. I take it you're running 4.0 of this map?
Check on the first post, "TO FIX SLIME SPAWNING IN A 4.0 MAP"
Maybe I should change it to "TO FIX MOB SPAWNING..."?

Umm, I'm pretty sure its 4.1 as I haven't had any issues with slimes at all! (as of typing this, I went and checked, and it indeed says 4.1) but oh well, I went and downloaded NBTExplorer and moved the "default spawnpoint" near my sugar cane farms...which were like 30 or so blocks away from the 4 biomes and it was indeed the solution of the problem. Have a looksie below.
The mooshrooms were interesting, as I didn't expect it when I was waiting for wolves to spawn. Actually four spawned at once, I killed 2 and put 2 in the animal pens. One actually spawned inside my smaller giant red mushroom, so I used a sticky piston to move part of the mushroom blocks to get thee mooshroom out and got him/her in the pen...
The three cats has somewhat of an interesting story. At first there where 2 ocelots, a cat and a kitten, I tamed both but they were both thee black tuxedo. Well an unfortunate accident killed one of the 2 kitties...(aka one fell on my sword, hehe) and as I was fishing so i can tame another one, I seen another one spawn. So I tamed it and it was surprisingly a orange tabby. Then I went to clean out my slime production chamber as there were so many, that one managed to glitch out. After I was done, I turned around and noticed another ocelot running around and went to tame it and surprisingly it was a Siamese, that got me excited that I was able to get all 3 kitties so quickly.
And to Melusane, another reason I don't use snapshots, is the mods that I use, don't get updated for snapshots, they only get updated for official releases. But I am somewhat excited about Mojang taking the horses from the Mo' Creatures mod and putting them in Vanilla MC. Then i'll be able to use horses without having to mess with the hassle of Forge, but I do wonder how much of the horses Mojang has added to the snapshots and will continue to add, such as zebras, donkeys, unicorns, pegasus, and the Hostile Mob varieties.
I finally got mooshrooms after a loooong time - four of them - and I made my favorite trap for slimes (just two blocks high inside so I don't have endermen spawning yet), the trap works on its own and I get slime balls in my chests underneath (not many but this is enough to craft leads).
I got many cats as soon as I grew grass in the jungle biome, but no wolves, no, they don't like my map . I also had to kill half a dozen horses, but not a donkey yet.
If the horses saddles become craftable again in the next update, you might want to add "breed horses" (saddles are needed for this) to the challenges list along with "craft/use dyed hardened clay" and "craft/use a lead".
Remember that one of the villager trades can be a saddle, so you could tame/ breed horses even without crafting saddles. Or, he could put a saddle in a chest in the nether (wanna be fiendish - put the chest with the saddle and maybe a couple other valuables next to the blaze spawner ;p).
