So I'm not sure how hard it would be to base this map on a different seed, but I found of a seed (144212242) that has a nether fortress pretty much right at the nether spawn point (if you make a nether portal from the overworld spawn point).
Nether fortress is large, but go to (x=-52, y=55, z=43) if you don't spawn in or right next to it.
I've confirmed that the nether fortress still spawns when the overworld is set to a flatland.
So what would a nether fortress give us? The ability to spawn wither skeletons, build a wither, get a nether star, and create a beacon? That sounds like a nice final bonus challenge
Yeah, larger biomes might be handy. Is that using the current 4 biomes? Or are you still thinking about swapping the desert for the mushroom biome (and eliminating red mushrooms from the initial island, since you can get them off of mooshrooms)?
Desert will be replaced by a mushroom biome. Mostly the desert was there as another unique area (no rain). It's not useful though, and a mushroom biome is. I'm not sure yet how I'll be handling mushrooms, but they will be different than they are now.
Based on the fact that the last weekly snapshot didn't have any new items or features, we might be getting closer to a 1.5 release. Other than adding some Nether Quartz and maybe adding some challenges that require a hopper, I'm not sure what other changes this might bring to the map.
I'm not going to throw random challenges in there (i.e., "Craft 30 daylight sensors") but I'll try to think of some interesting ones. I may even go through the current challenges and remove a few (though not the colored wool or potion ones, they're just attainable enough and require just enough unique things to fit my liking).
I'll also be reworking the book idea. The few people who actually read it don't use it the way it was intended, mostly because it's a bit clunky. I hope I have an idea that will at least alleviate that.
But yeah, 4.1 will not be substantially different from 4.0. That's the nature of a subversion. 5.0 though should follow a bit of a divergent path.
There may not even be a 5.0, because one rather interesting idea I have doesn't have an ocean in it.

That's another thing I'm planning on adding to both (and all future, probably) versions of Oceanblock. I've saved a bookmark to your post. Thanks!
Cool. Found another that is even better: "Survival" (-1535938722)
From a custom flatland overworld, build a nether portal, it spawns you directly inside the nether fortress itself.
Also a little better slime chunks than the other seed.
One more, similar: 6204165065652477994 Decent slime chunks, but the nether fortress is a few blocks away (still visible from the portal).
Just depends on whether you want to spawn directly inside, or require the player to branch out from the portal a bit.
I've played Skyblock for awhile now, and it seems like I've conquered just about all of the achievements. This looks like a great map to play on. Downloading right now!
My activity has been so sketchy as of late >.> I tried doing some LP's, but unfortunately my laptop can't handle FRAPS. Ah well. :/ Anyways, I worry that when Minecraft 1.5 and/or Oceanblock 4.1/5.0 come out, will my progress be erased when I update?

Sort of. You won't be able to "Update" Oceanblock to 4.1 or 5.0. They'll be whole new downloads so yes, you'd have to start over. You will probably be able to cheat in some Quartz and anything else new and complete the 4.1 challenges in your 4.0 map. I may even release a list of "approved" items to cheat in for just this purpose. You won't be able to do the same for 5.0, I'm hoping it'll be a wholly unique experience that should be done from the beginning.
Updating Minecraft shouldn't hurt your saved worlds, so I expect 0 problems from just 1.5 coming out.

I think you either posted in the wrong thread, or linked to the wrong page. I don't see anything for Oceanblock there!
Sorry I am editing my vid right now I didnt think you would post back before I finished editing.

No problem. I see it's still not up. I'm sort of crazy about watching all OceanBlock videos so I don't mind coming back and checking your page until it's there, but I fear nobody else will be so adamant. When it's available, you may want to re-post, probably with a link to the video directly. And in the future wait until you at least have a URL from YouTube before announcing it

Hmm, alrighty. Then I think I'll wait for 4.1, then download and start my game again. Will that finish 4.0 as a whole, or do you expect that another minor update would be made before 5.0? :3
which makes it sound like it would be easy to make a spawning platform or mob trap in the wrong place in the nether (too high, too low, wrong side of the platform, etc), and never know why Wither Skeletons aren't spawning.
It is unfortunate that you can't see it by just hitting F3 (since it isn't a biome, per se). Here are the two mods described in the above videos that can show the exact regions for mob spawning areas (wither skeletons, witches, even village boundaries): ShowMonsters Bounding Box Outline
Ugh. I need to restart my series on this /).(\ But I think, just like my Ant Farm survival, I don't have the patience to handle this map. It may be a cancelled series.

None taken. I don't put much stock into the opinion of someone who hasn't tried the thing they have an opinion on.
