i have mild to severe ocd so my islands are at least symetrical lol.
Also i just got a job a few days after starting over so i havent been able to play much but i am still having fun with this map and will someday complete all the challenges and more but thats why i like playing at my own speed
for every 10-30 minutes i spend playing oceanblock i spend 2-5 times that on creative perfecting whatever i am building to my liking.
Cant wait to get melons lol. this is my farm in creative that i have decided to go with.
Haha that's pretty sweet. I fiddled around for a while with the idea of automating it with a sensor to know when the melons had grown, but this is a better idea as you'll always be there to gather them.
I have not decompiled/read the 1.4.5 code. In the past, there was a confirmed bug where mooshrooms -- the mushroom cows -- would only generate during play in mushroom biomes (as expected), and only on lit grass (was required for all passive mobs). I never saw any mention of this bug being fixed. (As mentioned, spawns at chunk creation are not the same as spawns during play).
Beyond that, all I've seen mentioned is the limit of 16(?) total passive mobs over the entire 15 by 15 live chunk range.

... did I really ask that?
About the animal spawning, my first spawn was a single chicken when i came back to the island from mining the "stuff" on the ocean floor...I currently have several of each "farm" animal. Basically how i did it, when i got 2 chickens, i fenced them in a small area and killed any other chickens that spawned...same for pigs...like a couple days later, as i was working on my mob trap, i came back to base and there was 2 cows just chilling near my pigs...I also currently have 4 cats, (2 black "tuxedos", 1 orange tabby, and 1 siamese). My taiga biome is all grass with a couple torches and as of this post not a single wolf has spawned...and is there more soul sand then what is available in the nether base? (i've yet to journey down to the blaze spawner.)
And if anyone wants some good advice on killing Iron golems without getting them and the villagers mad at you, here is what i do: " build a 2x2 hole thats 3 deep, push the golem in the hole. The iron golem willl not be hurt in the fall, but then drop 2-3 sand in one of the corners of the hole. The Iron golem will suffocate and die by "natural causes" so the villagers wouldn't know any better, neither will any future golems!
I'm not one for making an LP, but I might start making "tour" videos of each project i make in the map. If anyone thinks this would be interesting, i'll try it.
About getting slimes to spawn, I used a slime chunk finder tool and found all the slime chunks within a 100 block radius of the center point of the island. "the block with the cactus at start of map"
Another question...I haven't really delved too far into villager trading...when I mined the diamonds...I made a pick and sword...then realized that I needed an enchantment table? am I screwed? or will i have to get diamonds out of the emergency cache?
EDIT: Now that i think about it, you can get more then 5 diamonds in oceanblock without touching the emergency cache, or even bothering the villagers. the trick is to mine 2 of the 5 diamonds. Make an enchantment table. Then enchant an Iron Pickaxe with fortune! then you can get more diamonds out of the remaining 3 diamond ore!

Other way is simply distance. After certain distance iron golem is "disconnected" from village. That is how I have hundreds of iron blocks (not bars).
I have developed the habit of pushing iron golems off the side of the village so they fall in the water. They stay at the bottom of the ocean until I can bother going down and harvesting them.

Yes. :-).
Yes to being screwed or yes to having to resort to using the emergency cache?
Yes
More seriously, there are no more diamonds on the map other than in the emergency cache (that's what it's there for). You are "supposed" to use 3 for a pick, and 2 for an enchantment table, and then trade for any other diamond tools you can. If you want a jukebox, you have to go to the emergency cache, get (as you said) fortune on an iron pick, or trade for a diamond pickaxe and then build your jukebox with the diamond you didn't need to use for that.
Actually, I thought you were suppose to use two for the table, trade for the pick, and then have three for whatever. Or as you said, fortune first, harvest second.

Ya, I might need to start the map over, as I'm compelled to try for the ultimate goal of never using the emergency cache...but with this new playthrough of the map, I may do an LP. Anyone have any idea of a good recording program i can get for free as i don't really have the money to buy one...
Another reason for starting over is that my first 2 villagers died on me, and i used INVedit to get 2 villager eggs to replace them, and if i plan on doing a legit playthrough...having that cheating guilt on my mind would bother me.

I'll look into it ...after I fix this problem i ran across...having an issue with my texture pack for some reason not working well enough with MCPatcher's HD textures...but this is not the place for that discussion. It wouldn't be good to make a video that who knows how many people will see and having texture errors.

Well it seems all the bugs have been squashed so i'll try this new Minevideo thing for recording and if it turns out well, you can expect the first episode of my first ever LP series over the next couple days! OCEANBLOCK SURVIVAL!
Nice recap! My islands are never very pretty either.
