Are you sure your in a slime chunk and or havent accidently went to peacefull loading another map ?
that pad covers 4 chunks under the End Portal - i think it's big enough and my xp farm is working great! I might have to go back to 1.4.4 and try that. Under that version I had animals all over the place. But when I updated to 1.4.5 my cat disappeared. Had him keeping an eye on the creepers as they fell to their deaths
I always seem to have issues w/ slimes and 5thHorseman always seems to have issues w/ his hostile mob traps - lol
This issue w/ the passive mobs is a new thing.
i was tinkering in creative in a new world for a while and the whole time no animals spawned. Plenty of monsters but 0 animals of any kind. strange ......

I created a superflat world, it started with 3 or 4 sheep and a pig. After 9+ hours of afk and play, 4 chickens spawned.
Slimes also spawned but at a greatly reduced rate. Doing a hardcore superflat survival would be a cake walk compared to what it used to be like.

Reports like these disturb me greatly, as they're sort of keys to maps like these
Hmm, the design of the island is different in 4.0...I tried 3.0 but never really got into it and when I was about to attempt it, I forgot where the list of challenges was so I came here to find it, and noticed you made a 4.0...so i deleted my 3.0 (which no progress was made) and downloaded 4.0...Hopefully I can get up the nerve to actually survive this map...I survived and completed all of Skyblock, but sadly its currently out of date...so here i am to attempt a up-to-date 1.4.5+ survival map. but i do wonder why you changed the locations of the Biomes? Was it to help with animal spawning?
EDIT: also why only 8 colors of wool for challenges? if i recall, every possible type of dye is available if you think and try...
Red: Roses from bonemeal on grass
Yellow: Flowers also from bonemeal on grass
Blue: Lapis Lazuli
Green: Cook cactus in furnace
Black: Kill squid for ink sac
White: (duh, most common color on sheep) also bone meal
Brown: Cocoa beans
the remaining 9 dyes are from a combination of the above.

I hope you enjoy it! I think it's much better than 3.x
There were 3 reasons that caused me to change the biomes:
1) Wolves spawn in taiga, so I wanted more than 4 blocks, so you had a fair shot at getting them.
2) Slimes spawn in swamp, so I wanted less than the hundreds and hundreds of blocks that 3.0 had.
3) With the introduction of custom superflat maps, I could make the entire map in only 4 chunks. So I did. Because of this, everything - including the biomes - must fit within a 32x32 area centered on the island.

I omitted those colors because... yeah. I didn't think of them
Especially blue should be in there. It's why I included lapis blocks, after all. And brown is the (main) reason I included cocoa beans. I just forgot them is all.
If I make a 4.1 (which I'd like to do because I thought of a better way to do the rules/challenges book) I'll add those. I'd like 4.1 to have a more substantial change that that, though, so I'm trying to wait until there's something I actually want to change in how the map works.
can anyone please post a mod trap plan I'm having no luck with my designs I'm either getting no mobs or creepers are taking it apart
I've never had an issue with getting hostile mobs. I just put up 8x8 pads with trap doors on the edges and they fall 24+ blocks to their deaths. It doesn't take long to get more drops than you can use. Once you have a bucket, any standard design should work well. A roof of some kind is needed only to stop endermen from spawning.
any platform 24+ blocks high will be far enough for them to spawn. 8x8 pads or even 3x3 with trap doors on the edges and something below for them to hit will kill them for standard drops. They walk off the edge onto the door which should be open but they still think it is closed then they fall and die 24 or more and that way you can get the standard drops like bonemeal zombie flesh gunpowder .Make sure that if you dont enclose the platforms they are only 2 blocks high then on the roof use halfslabs if you dont use torches so endermen dont take your platfor/trap apart quickly.
To get potatoes carrots iron etc... you need to let them fall 22 blocks then 1/2 heart remains so you last hit them and they will drop the rare drops.
If your having issues with slimes spawning in the swamp biome, Might I suggest using Rei's minimap? It has an option in it that shows you where all the slime chunks are, and tints those chunks red on the minimap. that's how I started finding slimes. Otherwise, just keep making your spawn-pads on the ocean floor bigger and bigger, and I'll garantee you will eventually find a slime chunk.
I'm not entirely sure that this is a bug - it might be a mistake on my part, which is most likely - but I've got a fairly decent-sized grassy area in the hopes of tempting passive mobs to spawn, and I've not got anything yet. Do I need tall grass, or just grass blocks? The area is well-lit, and when I stand on my villager's breeding platform, I can see the area but I'm pretty certain I'm 24+ blocks away. Is there other criteria I need to meet in order for passive mobs to spawn?
Also, my taiga area is fully iced over, but I'm not getting any wolves - do they need grass, or can they spawn on ice?
I managed to spawn pigs, chickens, sheep, and a couple of ocelots thanks to the forest biome. No cows or wolves, yet. My village is going good, too I'm expanding it.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
This doesn't matter. The diamonds were set there purposely for a pickaxe and an enchantment table. As long as you have the enchantment table and villagers all goals CAN be met.
As I understand it, there are only 5 diamonds outside of the emergency kit.
pick + table + jukebox is 6
Pick can be gotten from villagers. The others cannot

I haven't played this map yet, but the biggest reason I'd want stone is to make a furnace.
One furnace. That's all I need. Sure, eventually I'd want more.
But ... Torches! Charcoal! Jack-o-lanterns! A well-lit base that is completely safe from mobs except for where I choose to let them grow.
No more dangerous unexpected disasters. It's about safety ... (Should I link in a surprise visit by a creeper in my main Lets Play series now?)
There is somewhere around 16 coal on the map. That's 64 torches. It's far from unlimited but you can light up a pretty big area if you're even remotely frugal with them.
And if you work to get your village up to speed (which is the most important thing other than tree farms) you can get iron pretty quick. Once you have that, you can get to the Nether. Once you've gotten to the Nether, you can have all the stone you could ever want.
As I understand it, there are only 5 diamonds outside of the emergency kit.

Conclusion: buy your pick, do not craft it.
Note that the Jukebox goal is a bonus goal so only if you're truly going for ALL goals should you avoid making a diamond pick. I personally would just ignore the jukebox goal

MineCraft will probably adjust this again in a future update.

Here's a pic of one of the 11 gold farm platforms. The same basic design was used for the over-world spawner until a bucket was available.
Still no passive mobs other than squids but another YAY! because I got a slime today.
To get potatoes carrots iron etc... you need to let them fall 22 blocks then 1/2 heart remains so you last hit them and they will drop the rare drops.
You got to the End and defeated the dragon?
Just to be sure, I did NOT make sure that this map was on slime blocks. The only place I can guarantee you'll get slimes is in the swamp biome.

Also, my taiga area is fully iced over, but I'm not getting any wolves - do they need grass, or can they spawn on ice?
It gave me 2 frames, one has the map and the other has the egg. I'm going to skip the 'tame the wolf' and ghast tear potions goals.
I'm pretty sure that is where it spawned.
So I'm calling this map completed.
