Most likely what is called an Infinite Villager Spawner / Infinite Villager Breeder, which you can easily search for in Google. The explanation for why it works is as follows:
There's no such thing as villagers claiming doors. As I said before, overpopulation happens when there's a difference in height between the village center and the villagers. That's because villagers need to be inside a sphere (radius = village radius) around the village center in order to breed. But the village counts only villagers that are inside a box (width, length = 2x village radius, height: 9 [always!]) around the village center. So with a sphere that can grow to any size, and a box that's always only 9 high, it should be apparent that there are some zones only covered by the sphere (above and below the village center).
You can simply reproduce/abuse this behavior by building 6 houses on the ground level (enough to set the villager limit to 2), drop 2 (or more) villagers into a 6 blocks deep hole, and leave one villager at the top to keep the houses "alive". The villagers in the hole will breed indefinitely, because they're not counted against the cap.
I just realized... that I shouldn't use my diamonds to craft a pickaxe. Not unless I want to complete the jukebox challenge.
Diamond tools and armor can be traded but diamond ores can't... Too bad I didn't realize that until after day 3 (Real-time). >_>;;
Are you sure you are using version 4.0? I put 5 diamond ores in it so you could make an enchantment table and a pick. In OceanBlock3.0 there were only 3 diamond ores because back then enchanting was new and not very good, so it wasn't really a priority for me to make it an integral part of the map.
EDIT: I thought I put in 6, but just checked and it's 5. I remember doing this now, it was so you would have to work extra hard to get the jukebox, which I put in the bonus challenges section because it's potentially very difficult to get. This is exactly what you said, so... yes. I agree with you :-)
And you can trade for diamond tools and armor. In my "real" world I can buy almost a full set of tools and armor, all in diamond. Costs like 100 emeralds but I don't have to rebuy all that often
EDIT: I misread what you said. Yes, you cannot trade for diamond ores. Those 6 diamonds (or more if you can get a Fortune enchantment early) are all you'll ever get.
My One week Progress report. That big building in the back is what i have spent the week building and repairing. My Mob farm/grinder.
My village for the testificates, or as I usually call them "Squidwards".
Thanks to a lovely Zombie I wont starve. This is my lovely potato farm, temporary sugercane farm and my annoying pig companion.
And this is an overhead shot showing the entire floating platform, That pillar between the tree farm and the mob farm is how I'm getting daylight to the bottom of the ocean, it doesn't help much though, but I'm reluctant to mine the coal for torches.
P.S. sorry if I failed at uploading the pics, but i'm a forum noob.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the texture pack I'm using is the Isabella texture pack.
Started a Let's Play today of your map. Great concept and love how you have to overcome certain challenges in order to achieve goals (especially the trading aspect and waiting for golems to get iron).
Wheat farm and sugarcane farm are now really efficient. The inside island is "blah" and looks ugly when trees are down. To the right of it, the little building, is our 2-person cobblestone generator. To the very right is our Iron Golem farm that produced 1 golem every 6-7 minutes or so. Made of mostly snow, spruce wood on outside, but all the inside and stuff is jungle wood since it's so abundant. It looks giant, but 3-4 giant jungle trees will be enough to build it on your own(even without snow)! Use a simple water elevator to move villagers up, they'll breed like crazy, then loop water transit system around to the 4 spawning cells. I'd highly reccomend having a buddy help you so you don't go mad when the villagers act stupid -.-
The three rings in the back, from right to left: Sheepy spawning pad, tree spawning pad (using green wool from dyed sheep instead of dirt, then going to place a dirt block, grow tree, remove dirt, place tree log there!)and the final ring is going to be a cow/piggy spawning area.
To do list:
Build house
Build proper mob spawner
Build villager houses
Problems encountered:
Nether still doesn't work; replacing files was a bust. We have a small chest behind portal with the nether supplies we saw in picture in it, along with lava buckets.
Streaks of luck:
Got an awesome diamond pick from a villager, so all our diamonds are intact!
Such an awesome map. I found out about it through Tannah. I'll be playing it for awhile hopefully. Somehow when I was mining clay, dirt and sand my villagers killed themselves. Any idea how I can get those back without restarting?
Also, I don't understand, everyone else has 4 different biomes but on my f3 information it says that the entire map is just a plains biome.

The 4 different biomes are very small, roughly the same size as the starting island. They are not very far, all 4 are within 16 blocks of the starting island. If you still cant find them, might i suggest getting Rei's minimap and setting the map render type to biome to help you find them?
As for the villagers, there is a supply cache above the island with i believe 4 villager spawn eggs, that should allow you to spawn a few, but they will have different trades to the original two, and you may have to wait on a trade that allows you to get emeralds

Thanks, I have Rei's Minimap already and didn't realize you could change the render type to biome, I just did that and found them. I'd rather not have to use the emergency cache but I guess I'll have to. :/ I'll just take the 4 spawn eggs.
This map looks pretty cool even. But I think the 'majority' of the initial items on the island is becomes the beginning one little easier.
It would be nice put more islands (more than one, not to become a plagiarism of sky-block)

Really well thought out survival map. My buddy and I have a great time playing this even though we had to restart a couple of times because a our starting villagers got hugged by a zombie, but I only have one question. How do you get persistent animals such as livestock, to spawn without cheating. I know it can be done, but this has stumped us.
To everybody else: The holidays have got me too busy to reply in depth, but I'm reading all your posts and loving them! I'm also checking all the pics and videos and loving them too! I'd never heard of that villager spawner thing and I'm dying to try it!

Animals have similar requirements to hostile mobs. They spawn 24+ blocks away (up to like 128 or something), but only on well-lit grass. Sunlight will do it, as will enough torches to keep baddies from spawning. The best way to get animals is to set up your grassy area early (try 16x16, which is a lot of dirt but it's worth it!) and forget about it. Eventually, you'll be surprised by some animals. Then, herd them far away from the spawn area and pen them up.
I absolutely LOVE this map. I've got over 10+ hours of playing time in on it in the past 2 days. I Got an iron golem farm going and i'm currently building a mob sky trap, couldn't find one on youtube so I just created on in creative that I figured would work, it's probably similiar to what everyone uses. I need to get some lava from the nether but I'm not going to mine the diamonds, I have a villager that will sell a pick for only 11 emeralds, so I need one more. Once my place looks nicer, i'll post some images, kind of embarrassing right now because of the random wood everywhere.
What is a "fertility saucer?"
