This economy thing is HARD! It looks like Easy > Hard town may win out, which honestly makes building and balancing the economy easier, I'm sure really caught up in making the cost of things both worth it and fair without being too cheap. Choosing what items are in which of the three towns.. next release is only going to be town 1 and 2 so some stuff won't be in the game yet. I might have to sleep on this to get it right. I thought id get a lot more done today with classes canceled.
I was thinking of a cactus farm ._. it's to slide the materials over when water doesn't go far enough. oops.
EDIT: well, it can be used to automate things still, like melon farm, if you have a REALLY big one.
Never thought of that! If there's room I'll add it. Or maybe I'll make sure the island has a cold area and youll have to manage a silk touch weapon somehow to get your ice
Thanks for making/updating this map. It is the best map I have played.
One thing though, when I make a sugarcane farm I like to put lily pads over the water to catch drops, but there is only a limited amount of them in the map, could you make somewhere to buy them.
This sounds fun and I'm downloading it for both me and my nephew.
My favorite HM game has always been Back to Nature (the Playstation one). I'm not going to read through 10 pages tonight just to see if it's been mentioned here, but have you considered either using the town/island setup for BtN, or making a second map later for one or more of the more advanced games such as BtN?
I suggested a mod based on Back to Nature and ended up being in charge of development. Unfortunately, we only got so far before our chief coder had to leave, and we haven't been able to pick up a new coder of any merit since. But we weren't looking to copy BtN, just to put together a set of crops and recipes, animals, tools, and NPCs that would make Minecraft work like a Harvest Moon game. If I could get to the point of being able to grow all the crops and make all the recipes of BtN, I'd be pretty happy with that... for a bit, anyway.
Sigh.
Anyway, yeah, looking forward to playing this map

My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!
To be honest... I thought this would be a really bad map when I saw the word "Farming". But I love how you set the map. Turning something that doesn't seem exciting into something that people would play. Good job!

Yeah I recognized your icon. I've been to that thread a time or two. I don't think BtN was specifically mentioned but the 2 towns we're adding in are the GBC2 and GBC3 ones. Speaking of I really need to get to work on that while i have some free time. Illness and a big paper due tonight have really kept me from working on it as much as I'd like to have.

Yeah I DLed a few Farming maps, and Farmville maps, they were all boring because there was no....direction no goal no reason to do anything really and least of all there were no clear defined rules, what i was and wasn't allowed to do? Now i didn't wanna set it up so you had a ton of rules to follow, but a few small ones, work inside the confines you're given, don't destroy x things.. didn't seem like too much.
Ah that's my favorite HM game as well! I've spent countless hours on it.
I'd recommend you check out the Moontown mod, but we've been on hiatus for several months now, and I don't know how quickly (or even if) we'll get back to work. On the up side, our chief texture artist, Icalasari, has gone off on his own time and whipped up a Harvest Moon texture pack, or most of one, on the Minecraft Customizer site. (By the by, if you haven't checked out that site yet, please do. It's fun to browse around and combine different textures for different things, and it ought to be even easier to merge packs now that the textures are separate files.)

Oh sorry I didn't see this post before, but sounds great! I'll take a look. I'm definitely going to try out the HM texture pack. <3

Dumb question, but are you allowed to cut the grass in the town to get more seeds? Not that you need more, but I was just curious.
Also, is it intentional that the vendors in the treehouse will buy cobblestone and wood from you? I got most of my early emeralds that way after I cleared out my property of debris. It must be, but that was a nice surprise.
Love this map! The hidden chests are great! Though I've found some fairly close together.
Did you intend for the Sprite vendor to trade Jack o' Lanterns rather than pumpkins? I bought one without realizing, expecting to be able to get seeds from it.
In terms of replayability, I have a suggestion for the hawker quest:
Unless one were to pretend they don't know where to plant the magic bean so they actually have to go through the hawker quest, it's really easy to get the mooshroom/golden eggs if you know where to place the lever. I'd suggest instead of using a lever, using a redstone torch or something and not having redstone dust in the dungeon (so you would HAVE to get the torch from the hawker, because you can't make your own through normal play on the map).
Of course I guess once you've gotten all the chests, you would know where they were, so there's a little less replayability in that regard since that element of surprise is gone. But I still think the hawker quest should be necessary if you want its rewards. Otherwise, you can go do it right off the bat if you know what to do.
One of the most challenging factors of the actual Harvest Moon is the fact that there are multiple seasons, and each season has different crops, and that you need to water your plants every day, and also feeding and grooming your animals every day. I don't know how to implement those things without a mod, but I certainly hope you will be able to. Could you tell me how long it is until the three cities update? I want to know whether to get the map now or wait a while. This map seems really cool, good job!
Oh, I found another error. The guy that sells armor sells Iron Boots twice, for two different prices, and does not sell Iron Leggings. Still, I love this map. Most fun I've had in Minecraft in ages.
Is there a way of getting obsidian? After the mooshroom, you can get practically anything in the shops using buckets. This kinda ruins the plot. You shouldn't be able to get cows and mooshrooms. After 5 mins with the mooshroom, I got about 50 emerald blocks.
I never played Harvest Moon, but my favourite aspect of Minecraft is the farming. I've just downloaded the map and have yet to play it (still exploring). But, I thought I should give compliments because the detail and effort put into the village is very apparent and enjoyable as a playable map!
Edit:
Also, thanks for staying true to Minecraft and keeping the emerald currency It always annoys me when there is another form of currency expected out of us!
Can you explain or link me to how this works? It's an otherwise useless block to sell for this map.

Farm houses, Farm, Unfinished mountain pass, Docks (to 3rd town-it will not be out in v.2)
Nice to be known for something
Wish I were known for a successful project, but I still hold out hope that we'll get a new coder and get it finished... eventually.
