Very interesting map, I absolutely loved the "intro". A great way to build up immersion.
My progress so far:
I've more or less finished collecting all the stuff above earth, cleared the central dungeon and made my way to the dropship. So 2/5 at the moment.
I guess I'll find one in each alien ship, but since I'm going to avoid these spider-hellholes for now I'm trying to find #5 and the 'energy source'. I've looked all over the city but didn't find any entrance or something, I would be thankful for a hint (not a complete spoiler, just where I should probably stick my nose in again).
EDIT: Found the enchanted iron armor and the mother****ing bucket! Oh yeah, now I feel ready for the alien ships, I got my weapon of choice, suckers.
Big congrats on finding the iron bucket! That's a game changer.
Look hard on that same ledge above the city. Somewhere else is something you want...bad. Clues as to what is is lay in chests in the city.
Here's a riddle as well to point you to another game changer: Look deep inside yourself. Into what makes up your core. When you reach that pinnacle, you will be rewarded.
As for the power source: There is a complex maze of large circular rooms in the sub-levels that you have probably already found. The way to the power source is through an optical illusion in this area. This is a Vechs invention. It's subtle but great.
*thumbs up* That was a reply exactly on the edge of vagueness as I wanted it to be. I have an idea where to investigate now, thanks!
Some constructive criticism on the alien ships though:
Even with the bucket these ships were not easy, the enchanted armor is gone and I wasted about 3 swords. As I've said I almost expected eggs in there, but the reward was definitely below my expectation. To be honest, I would have skipped the alien ships completely if I knew what I could get inside beforehand.
I would recommend to add (at least) some armor in the chests there and maybe another sword or two. Since I see now that I probably still have the majority of difficult encounters in front of me, I'm afraid that I will run out of supplies in the long run. (Wouldn't be so bad, I guess. Knowing where stuff is should be a huge advantage on a new try, but still..)
Excellent feedback. When I created the crafts, I wasn't sure how the lighting or terrain would effect the spawning. I'll put something in the cockpit as a halfway point to re-supply and put something more worthwhile in the end.
Also, if you had found one or more of the REALLY good hidden items on the map prior to trying the alien ships, they would not be nearly as difficult. I was hoping the players would see the alien ship challenge and back away then come back later better armed.
You forgot to put a link to ZombieCleo's LP, unless that was intention. (it might have been, idk) I will also probably play this at some point.
I didn't ask ZC to do a LP. That was something between Vechs and her with the early alpha version of the map. The map changed so drastically with the beta and feedback I got from the community, her LP became obsolete.
Having some additional supplies in the cockpit is a fine idea, yes. I had some creepers in the room on one ship though, maybe protect the chest or put it up on the ceiling (maybe actually make it appear with a lever-controlled piston? Like an alien supply-box coming out from above? Dunno, just thinking here. ).
I guess I became a bit overconfident after finding the bucket, I'll check out the areas you hinted at and will likely give additional feedback tomorrow.
RE: Creepers in the cockpit. Can't protect the player from EVERYTHING
I updated the ships and added a tiny bit more booty at the end that just might make it worth it. There's something in there that is literally nowhere else. If you're bored one day, try a re-play and see what the ships feel like.
I really enjoyed the limited alpha version. I'm gonna try the beta and the full as well.
If you enjoyed the alpha, you are going to love this. I call it beta, ,but it's very close to complete. I humbly ask for any feedback so I can balance the play as much as possible without compromising the terror and adventure portions of the map.
Make sure your expectation going in is a slow build up with a long read at two points in the game (from the new books). Read them carefully. Get your head into the story. I hope you enjoy. And forgive spelling errors in the books. Editing those is absolutely terrible.
I usually don't like adventure maps, but this one looks awesome. I'm playing Waking Up right now, but after I'm done I'll definitely give this map a go. I watched Joe Hills playing it, and the map looks very well done and very fun.
I can't wait for the full version, and I can't wait to play it.

had a busy day today so didnt get to recording how long will the map take me ?
Don't know. The hardcore killers out there can jam through this in about a half a day. Maybe less. Just depends on how fast and gutsy you are. Some people like to play around in the environment. Immerse themselves. That would take much longer. I can tell you there are three hiding spots on the map that have incredibly valuable items. You can do the map without them. But if you find one or more of these great items they will accelerate your speed.
Some progress, 3/5 and I managed to solve your riddle.
Also found the enchanting table, though I'm not sure if that's such a big deal with the weapons I already have.
I found several hyperspawners, but they were all empty. Did you forget to fill them up?
I found several hyperspawners, but they were all empty. Did you forget to fill them up?
Where? Do you remember the locations?
Yeah, the idea was you would PROBABLY find the enchanting table but not the solve the riddle. So I left it there as a backup. Besides, you still have armor to worry about.
Yep, the first was directly next to one of the eggs in the underground complex. The other one is in the basement of one of the larger buildings, the one with the double chest containing iron armor.
Nope, I discovered some kind of library with the big staircase leading down to one of the egg-caves, a huge tube with lava on top leading to another and the other small intersection to the hyperspawner-egg. I walked the whole place up and down for some time now but can't find any other branch. Am I missing something obvious?
Am I missing something obvious?
Yes. In the middle of the city is a depression with crumbling stairs down into it (also a bridge over it). One one side is a spider nest, on the other is the beginning of the maze to the power plant. First find the circular rooms. It's tricky. Sometimes you have to go up to go down.
I'm confused now.
That entrance (which I did find) only leads me to the area I described. Let's say I go down the stairs there, I can then turn right, which leads to the big tube and one egg-cave at the end or left, which continues along some iron bars (through which I can see the library) and up to an intersection where I can continue up, which leads outside (and to the other egg-room along the way) or left, which goes to the library, the staircase and the last egg-cave at the bottom.
I've just checked the way from one entrance to the other again, I still don't see where I'm supposed to be going.
NO help this time You are close. It's a maze. I will tell you the back door entrance will get you there faster. That's all. Good luck!
AHH! You mentioned the bed on the ship! That's something they are supposed to figure out themselves. Oh well.
Thanks for the feedback..yes, anything GIVEN to you by accident like creeper explosion blocks or mob drops is fine. The really important part is not to tunnel rat. There is redstone all through the alien city. So, place and break what you find, but don't break what's already there.
Also, yes, continuous rain and thunderstorm are important and SHOULD have been provided with 1.3.1. But obviously didn't make it into the build. As soon as it becomes an option under MCEdit, it will be permanent. Also, MJ could fix the lighting bugs. That would be so great. FIX YER LIGHTING BUGS!!!!
Oh, and the program is MCEDIT. You can turn the rain and thunderstorms back on. Search the mod forum for MCEDIT. Or Google.
Sorry for the spoiler, I'll put it in one^^
But what do I have to change in the level.dat to get the rain back? I don't wanna play it without the lighting flashes...
As I've said, I'm on 4/5 and I'm 99% sure that I found the damn thing I'm supposed to blow up (the button is talking to me: "push me, push me hard!"). I'm resisting for now, since the military will probably keep me stranded here if I don't get all the eggs. I don't expect much help at this late stage but I would simply like to know if the last one (which is probably #4 considering the location of the last one I found, which should be #5 then) is here in this area or at some distant unrelated location. I'm just a bit tired of running around and really want to see the end of this mess.
Sorry for the spoiler, I'll put it in one^^

Change raining to 1 and thundering to 1. under the Data entries.
Alright: All of them were located in the underground complex/maze obviously, three of them being in reach independent from each other. After discovering the passage through the deepest cavern which had an egg, I found the circular rooms filled with cobweb-tunnels and spawners, with the water-pillars in the center. I managed to traverse that and after two doors in a row I ended up in a big place with a visible egg to the right (behind spawner-fun obviously) and the huge thing in the middle, which I reached by going around the pit on the left side (and triggering some stuff on the way).
The last one is above ground. Right back where you started.
Unfortunately other than the VERY brief creative mod run through I did just to see what's what, I haven't made any other progress yet. A few things do come to mind though. With the vast amount of mobs the player faces, it seems like slightly more fire power might be needed at the start, but only slightly.
Also, unless I've been an idiot and just didn't notice it, the player seems like it should be prodded towards the ship with the eggs slightly earlier on. I spent a good hour or so looking around everywhere (Pass many of the objectives) before actually realising it was there.
But generally this map has been beautifully done by BOTH of you. I have only seen a map like this once, and it was the best map I ever made so hopefully once it's been fine tuned a little, I'll get a few friends to try and beat this monster of a map! You should give yourselves a pat on the back and have a diamond from me
Thank you so much! As you know, making these is really time consuming. If I didn't have Vechs create the prototype, I would have spent months making it from scratch. Thanks Vechs!
Resume: There's not much I can criticize, the map is beautiful, especially at the start and the end. Besides the issue with the alien ships (which has been fixed) there is only a minor thing I could complain about and that's the available amount of torches: This will not affect every player, but the ones like me who tend to light up most places they visit will run out of torches at the end. I had to backtrack and collect two stacks of previously placed torches from the city to be able to light up the final areas. If that's intended, good, leave it like that. Otherwise put some more in the chests.
That's all though, well done, I greatly enjoyed the map!
(And I'm so happy I didn't have to deal with the hyperspawners, muahaha!)
Sort of addressed that in the alien ships
Congratulations! Thanks for the great feedback. I'll refill those hyper spawners to make it that much more evil again.
You did read the books at the very end correct?

Yeah, that's why I suggest setting the view on far (if you can). It's hard to see them. But I do mention them. Maybe add some lighted pathway of some sort to them from the entrance.
Big congrats on finding the iron bucket! That's a game changer.

Excellent! Keep playing. Like any good movie, it's slow to start as the stage is setup. But the grand finale is a blast.

Good luck with Waking up. That map looks nasty.

Have you found the four large circular rooms with water columns in them?
Am I missing something obvious?

I take no credit for THAT place. Only someone as evil as Vechs could come up with a meat grinder like that.
THAT place is why I made the bucket.
What a shame you aren't doing a LP for the map. Yours would have been excellent.
