I've been working on VFII dungeons and individual areas on 1.1 in Codewarrior's MCEdit for the last month or so. ive really only started piecing things together in 1.2 with the new unstable MCEdit in the last week or two. Im probably about 2 weeks away from a playable alpha that i can start testing. I'm a really picky ******* so alpha phase will be a lengthy process. Once I feel pretty comfortable with the alpha ill start working things out with CilantroGamer who has made me an offer for exclusive rights to LP/livestream the beta. Cil has been super cool to me so I want to work out the terms with him before I start leaking anything, even screenshots. I'll still need private beta testers before the map goes to Cil but, there will probably just be a strict license attached, legal mumbo jumbo and such. Not sure how to work that out yet. Have to chat with Cil a bit.
If you read all that, here's what is probably the most official guide on what to expect from VF II:
Map style: Linear Branching (travel via rails and boats)
Spans all 3 dimensions. The overworld or normal Minecraft world will actually consist of an overworld and an underworld. That's what's been killing me with this new McEdit, takes forever to create that.
12 major dungeons: 4 in the nether, 4 in the overworld, 4 in the end
I'm trying to mix my terraforming with more architectural structures for dungeons which make for better traps, puzzles and scripted events.
The nether will be a "hellish" place (duh) that I have to say, visually has resulted in some of my best work to date. Very scary stuff and not for the faint of heart.
The overworld which contains its own underworld will be terrain based on top for resourcing and the landscape will eventually lead you underground into dungeons, Legend of Zelda style.
The end dimension... Well... Just be prepared to meet the great architect of the universe! ...and possibly turn your butter pants brown. (bring extra pants) [trousers]
Dang. The surface/underground (in the spirit of Vechs' Black Desert) mix is what I've been working on for my next map, too. Also, I've had experience with building in the end dimension, so if you're interested, you can read all of my tips for building in it:
-In the End, make sure to go there and set the obsidian plate before anything else. Test your portal a few times, as some times you'll get a plate at a different elevation.
-Kill the enderdragon. Once its killed, it won't respawn, and your end dimension will be a safe building location.
-The End is foggy. Make sure to give clear paths to your epic mega-structures, as walking down a bridge and seeing an epic, intimidating [blank] fade out of the fog is amazing.
-Endermen. Try not to use any of the blocks endermen like to pick up for your colour schemes. (ie: dirt).
-Everything is cast in a dim, pale green light. Players won't spend time lighting up chambers, as everything should be visible already from the end's lighting system. Try obstructing the player's view, or using lots of mob spawners to ensure torches are necessary.
-The End Dimension's file is called DIM1, where the nether's is called DIM-1. So, even though they look alike, don't delete DIM1 when puplishing the map for download.
Well, those are my tips for building in the end. I hope they come in handy.

Wow, sounds absolutely amazing. I am totally honored that I'm a beta tester for it!
*showing off to all the people who aren't beta testers. I love to show off.*
But however, in all seriousnessnessness, this sounds stunning. If all this actually looks like what I'm imagining it to be like, it's going to be extremely beautiful, and also extremely tough to finish. I'm not fantastic at playing Minecraft, but I think I can offer some insights on the artistic parts of it: terrain sculpting, color schemes, block combinations for a given area, etc. I am really into that kind of stuff, and your maps offer much in the way of it.
Sorry this isn't a longer post-- I wanted to write to Amalon too, to tell him that I love his humor about the breakfast cereal, and to Mr. Foot to tell him that he isn't spamming the thread, we love to see his fantastic videos. But I'm tired right now, so I don't want to quote people. Anyway, goodnight guys, if it's nighttime in your time zone.

Darn Earth and its multiple moons, making the fabric of time distorted...
Anyways, to three_two, I really like the idea of this next map! I really hope that our maps aren't too similar to each other (in concept) when they come out. :-I
Well, Vinyl Fantasy I complete!
Thanks for all the hard work you put into this map and I can't wait for VFII.
-snip-
Ooh, nice job. Quite an achievement. For all the LP's I've seen of the map, and the times I've started it and tried to play it, I've never actually played through Vinyl Fantasy in whole. However, in about a week, I have 2 weeks of from my classes, so I'm planning to start a playthrough of Vinyl Fantasy. I will hopefully be posting updates about it here. I'd like to record an LP of it, but my mic quality is very low, and my computer is so slow that I would likely get about 5 FPS while recording. But oh well.

I can definitely help with your FPS situation! I have had similar problems! Please contact me if you're interested!

aside from the lighting gltich w/e that is, is this map still playable in 1.2.4?
No. The lighting "glitch" is the actually skylight leaking through the ceiling which effects mob spawning and essentially breaks my map. I'm working on a fix for this but, it takes time and patience on my part because I'm essentially fixing a 1.1 map that works just fine for a game that is essentially broken in 1.2. At this time, I have no idea if or when a 1.2.4 compatible version of the map will be released.
I highly recommend playing this map in 1.1. It's easy to roll back your client. It's easy to swap .jars if you need to play something else in 1.2.4
Gotta say three_two, love your ideas for VF2. Sounds like it's going to be a beast to pull of so good luck with that. Very exciting times (maybe not for you - I don't envy the slog you're putting up with to update VF 1). Really enjoying your developer commentary as well.
Arrgh Assumption / Presumption. Time for an extended cup of tea =)
Nice job on finishing it, Foot! I had to stop watching after about 8 episodes, because I didn't want to spoil the whole map for myself, but I really liked your playthrough, of what I saw. Are you doing Amalon's map next now, or are you holding out for VF II?

Well if it is possible, how long do you think it will take?
Ah Isaac..it's about then when the quality got better..in fact I'd chuck those first 6 episodes if I could..but you've done the right thing - the map is like a huge epic adventure and it's much better if you haven't got a clue whats coming up! =)
I've done the 2 episodes on Cutthroat, but the first didn't upload and I'm reencoding now..been kinda struggling with the last week or so - effin duodenal ulcer and work are kinda making things a bit difficult, but I'm pretty sure Amalon will be pleased with the playthrough so far and he'll have a decent and complete runthrough of the map by the end =)
Lem...you know, you're one of the few LPers who I watch who I'm not secretly wanting you to die! It bad enough that you have the PC and the MC problem, but now you have less HP than you should...and ****ing rats
I hope your intestinal issues get better! I'm fairly certain that I have Chron's disease or IBS, I feel your pain, man.
And on the other thing, at least I have a deathchest now, that will stay there till I get back to it, lol! I guess it's a take the good with the bad type situation. It's like a: I just cut my foot off, but now I only have to buy one shoe, good/bad situation. That was pretty deep for a forum post. I hope you all feel more enlightened!

Congrats again on finishing the map. Looking forward to next one. Sounds like you're having a similar week to mine. That's rough. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Ugh, an ulcer sounds rough. Don't sweat it if you're too busy/having a hard time right now, take the time off if you need it.

Lol, i actually I have an in- game death counter! In the course of three episodes I died 23 times!
