Oh my...those screenshots are speechless!
p.s. I hope the hidden doggies are still in there maybe even some new hidden kitties or villagers: the hidden dogs in my opinion was one of the best things to your maps since it was something completely different and lots of fun
btw, how many/what maps are you currently working on anyway?
Right now I'm looking into the last few areas of Hell's Highway II. Presuming I finish it soon, it will go out to a few beta testers and then after some final edits I'll release it. The other map I'm creating has barely been started, and it'll be my go at a continental-style map, except more focused on an inhabited land rather than a bunch of large biomes and dungeons. I've had a RFW map that has been done for months now, but I still don't know if I'm going to release it. It has never been tested, and the genre as a whole has died down significantly. I'll make the decision to put it out or not later. For now, we're looking at a release that will hopefully happen in the next few weeks.
Here's a picture for all you lovely people who still watch this thread:
Map was very close to being done. But something didn't feel right about it... Walking on the Highway, going from area to area, it all didn't feel right. Half of the reason I think is because the travel times were excruciatingly long. There's only so much you can do with rails, end portals, and nether quick travel. I was also struggling with player progression and how I was going to incorporate it into areas. I was trying to wow the player at every area, and I'm afraid that made me overlook exactly how people were expected to play the map. I tried playing it a bit myself... Most of the time I was running between areas, bridging, or just looking around. Some of the areas played quite well, but I don't want a map where bridging and sprinting is half the map.
Project definitely not abandoned. I am however thinking of abandoning the idea of the highway. I originally created it in an attempt to be original and unique in my map creation. To be honest, the highway is flawed in many ways. Players without any knowledge of an area can go to it whenever they want, and either get destroyed and spawn hundreds and hundreds of blocks away or get lucky and get the loot, making each area before it a cakewalk. There's also no sense of classic Minecraft in the map. No room to build a house, you chop down trees after making your way through a massive area, and you have a minecart before a block of wood for the sake of travel.
I hate to say it, but the map simply isn't fun right now. I'm going to start working on a map with intersections instead of the highway, and use as many of the same areas from HHII that I can, because most of them took a very long time to create and I think they look awesome. I'm thinking a cave... with probably five intersections... but I'll do all that with the fact that I have to keep it unique and fun in mind.
Sorry for such a long wait.

Now is the time to burst out in tears :'( I dont know if you've already comfirmed it or not but will the wolves be returning in these maps as a bonus objective? I need cheering up
Aw I`m gonna miss The Highway. I think you are making a good choice though, since I always remembered having to make bases where I stored food along The Highway. As long as the areas are huge and fantastical, I`ll still be happy :)Oh, and just a quick thing to add, don`t make it short like Compound Island II, I didn`t like that one much to be honest.
I know this is WAAAAY over due, but I've decided to make an LP of your maps. I'm starting with Compound Island and then I'm going to Hell's Highway. Wish me luck guys The link is here:
