Ok - hoping to get some advice/discussion on an element of custom maps.
I built some 'special effects' into an adventure map, that I want to be triggered when the player gets to a certain point. These are NOT traps. They are meant to enhance the storyline/experience only.
The surrounding area includes grass, and is a generally flat area. The spot where I want them to trigger is more than one square wide so I put multiple plates down that all link to the same redstone wire.
I would prefer to have them 'trigger' without the player having to click (or a choice to avoid clicking) on a buttom or lever... so I figured the stone pressure plate is my only real option. It's visually obvious, but not sure I have any other choice. The BIGGER problem is, animals are stepping on my plates before I get the player into position and the effect is ruined.
I would say the best option is to fence the area off and make the floor stone then have the player open a door or climb over the fence (a set of stairs can be used to get over a fence smoothly but still keeps animals out) this way the fences let the player see the surroundings and the effect plus the animals are kept out. only problem becomes keeping the spot very well lit to stop mobs.

Take a step into my world... a world where anything is possible... a world where a quiet "hiss" behind you, means you must expect more then just a snake bite...
Thanks! I was thinking a fence around the immediate area would look odd (I used fences for a big 'gate' that is half-open and you are passing thru. The ground is a stone 'driveway'.). But I may be able to put some fences around the walkway entirely and not look too bad.
