The failsafe destroys the treasure, though! Step on one of the plates and wish for luck. As far as I know, it does work. The only other option is going in creative mode and break your way behind the wall and try to reach for the chest without triggering the failsafe.
So, I'm moving into a normal place by the end of this month, internet never really panned out in this building, but I've managed to save enough to return to Criswelvania human society. Wish me luck. I'm wishing for a hot shower.
Spooky, I'd like to ask you a favor, if you have the time, and I do not mean to snub anyone else by omission, but I think you are the perfect candidate for this task. I would like to put someone in charge of recruiting, organizing and managing the community contributions to the world expansion effort, I need someone to curate all the other contributions for texpacks, skins, builds etc, as I do not have the time to put into this project at the moment. I feel that will change again soon as my situation stabilizes but I don't want the project to stagnate, furthermore I would like to put together a collaborative core team to work with going forward and really knock this next release out of the park.
When I look at my plans for this map, and give an honest assessment of how soon I could actually make it happen by myself, it will easily take me over a full year to accomplish alone. I would like a lieutenant to help oversee the collaboration while I focus on adventure design, to provide general guidance to all participants, who is willing foster a positive environment for creative collaboration with an attainable standard for quality, given the level of the contributors who may include younger children. There is space in Minerva for everyone, and the most impressive stuff should be accessible somewhere directly from the unused nether highways. We could probably dedicate a island or three to statues, pixel art and other gibberish if it seems fun.
Eventually I plan to turn this map over to the community completely and let others take it where they wish, but I have to take my own adventure to the end.
If this is something that sounds appealing, I will give you the spare set of keys, so to speak, including to this thread, and will make myself accessible to you for planning discussions etc. I would like you to coordinate with Minnan, Deep Pixel, Owl and/or any other true believers. Please let me know if you have the time for such a venture. It is okay if you don't and it is also okay if you accept but later wish to turn it over. I need ground work, and a push here and now with a human touch to make this realizable, and I can't do it alone anymore. It would be purely a spare time thing; we all have lives. There are no firm deadlines, just a destination I think we all want to see. There is excitement and rewarding satisfaction with each milestone.
I must admit I am rather crap at managing a group of people but believe delegation of tasks is the key to this project's ultimate success. There are others I would consider as well, but with the experience of maintaining your own maps comes the understanding of the level of organization required to keep this thing on the rails. You know my situation and you know the fact that I am still here means I am for real.
So, whilst adventuring through my Imgur database, I found some old screenshots of things I built in Criswelvania:
Criswell, I'm wondering if you'd be interested in adding the structure/concept of the first two images to a region in Minerva as a key chapter to the main quest which players locate through the hints left throughout the first books?. The section itself can be mostly about immersion, perhaps recalling back to the old n64 Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness game.
Minnan, is there any way that you can send me a copy of that build? I'd love to look over it if you still have it saved somewhere. PM me and let me know.
[150526] Big announcement: I am very happy to say Criswelvania is no longer a solo project, but a team effort. Spookyhappyfun is taking over some of the day-to-day management of this thread and of the collaborative effort, helping with publicity and coordination between contributors among other things. I am providing him with the media archive which includes any skins, texpack or other submissions to date, to create the definitive repository of fan-made assets. If you feel you wish to join the team to help expand the world of Minerva and its mythos, please direct all inquiries and submissions to Spooky and comply with the quality guidelines that he and I will set forth. Several of you are already honorary team members, you know who you are. Let's have a huddle over the next couple weeks and decide proper roles for those who want them.

More news soon, thanks everyone!
Thanks, Criswell! I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the faith you've put in me and how honored I am to be chosen to help with one of the best (and oldest) Minecraft adventure maps out there!
My goal is really to help spread the love of this map and to help ease Criswell's burden so he has more time to spend doing what he does best: continue to tell his story of the battle against the evils of Criswelvania. In the process, I hope to work with you, the community, to expand this map beyond the dark well-trodden halls of the castle out into the wider world through your contributions. Do you have tales you'd like to tell, a dark fortress you'd like to build, or maybe skins you'd like to share? Let me know!
Oh! I can't remember where the original post is located. The map save files I built all that in are in my old hard drive. I still haven't bought the adapter to transfer all my stuff from there to the new hard drive.

Is this the Tower of Ruin that you were mentioning back here? Located where Cris-Mart was to be built (though I'm not sure quite where that is)?
If you can find that thing or figure out a way to get the save and get us a copy of it, I would so love to check it out and figure out how to incorporate it!
Oh Minnan, is this the area you showed me in multiplayer? The Crismart sign was 95% just a gag anyway, haha maybe a chain can be established someday, I'm sure there would be some abandoned stores in bad neighborhoods ^_^. But that area can totally be expanded upon, as I recall we discussed some improvements but the finale was pretty dang impressive and fun even as a demo of what it could become, it was really great for what we were both working with at the time.
If I remember the above correctly, there is a lot of interesting topology between that location and the introductory road to Gillis, steep valleys, caves, harbors. all the stuff Criswelvania already has which make the area perfect for complex traversals. You have a head start, I could hand that territory off to you, no problem. Story is something we will have to discuss at some point, but if you want a tract to build on, go for it.
I wanted to expand the adventure in that direction anyway as alternate/expansion material, maybe some character-focused side material. It would be cool to hand off gaiden to others to flesh things out. We can make roads similar to others in Criswelvania, where you can't just wander in, but with a map you can open the path back once you discover the entrance. With the introduction of some new world rules in the next release, boats become a legitimate means of transportation, given that a) you travel to a Dock which you have already discovered, or you travel to a location marked on a Sea Map or Port Map which you can open as a return destination upon arrival. To me this rule for boats seems compatible with the existing guidelines and reasonably acceptable in terms of the immersion aspect of those rules. It is worth seeing how it plays, in the interest of incorporation of all modes of transportation. I am still hopeful about railways as well.
I'd say after June 12~15th, the existing interested parties should have some kind of live chat/Skype/meeting of minds and talk ideas, this is flexible but a good goal. Spooky is in charge of coordinating so please connect with him so that he can effectively help consolidate communications to make the most of my limited availability. If something urgently demands my attention he can reach me even offline. I sincerely appreciate the energy of everyone involved so far.
BTW Minnan, a possible overworld connection to that area, besides the nether shrine you used, are the sealed mines northeast of Stillwater Lake just off the Gillis Road. This natural underground cavern runs all the way to the Caves of Confusion, it's massive and convoluted but I have torched off the path and it can exit out into the region North of Criswelvania adjacent to the starting area as its own branch of adventures.
So, after 7 months of drifting, I'm finally home. It's emotional to be back, to be able to have a hot shower after work. To have internet again shortly, and a fridge that can hold more than beer. To share a bed with someone warm. To regain my humanity. I'm deeply grateful.

You can always hop on creative and break the block and quickly reach for the item in the chest off-camera

e: I should have made this a pm. pressure much?
Good god!
I'm overwhelmed and honored.
Let me roll this around in my head for a while and get back to you.
Thank you!
Finals are almost over. I should be back on track by June 12th.
Awesome, that sounds like a perfect time to reconvene.
Minnan, is there any way that you can send me a copy of that build? I'd love to look over it if you still have it saved somewhere. PM me and let me know.

BTW that does look really cool Minnan, not sure if I ever replied to your original post. Where is it located? Let's try to make it work.

The prophet of Criswelvania deserves a palace. Perhaps that's the closest thing for now ^-^
