I'm going back and playing through some of the superhostile maps. I was wondering if anyone who had played them all could help me pick some of the better ones because from what I'm experiencing the quality of the maps really varies between them. I really liked Sea of Flames II and Legendary so I started with Waking Up, but the start is just really hard and it's real dark everywhere. I dunno if it gets better later, but Legendary just had a much better feel to me.
As a general rule, I do not usually post here. But look, I post here today. In particular, I played the first one (Sea of Flames) during the Beta era, but I did not dare to give credit to the creator. But now, thanks for creating this style, Vechs.
Patience, young padawan. He's currently working on a brand new map that's got an artic theme. It's availible for testing on his Patreon, but aside from that, I'm not sure when it'll come out.

https://superhostile.fandom.com/wiki/Iceolation This seems to have a download for it. Found the link when looking up the yogs playing Canopy Carnage for nostalgia and was like "holy ****, a new super hostile map?!"
It also seemed to be available early for patrons!
Looks like a ton of fun. As much as I would rage against these maps the challenge and creativity always kept me forging onward. In fact my two most memorable moments in MC history were being trolled by Vechs.
First in the original Black Desert:
"Man I'm hungry. Ah, a cake! Nothing suspicious about this...* digs under to look for traps * Ah, a TNT block. Can't get me that easy, Vechs! * breaks the TNT *
* PLUMMETS 200 BLOCKS SCREAMING INTERNALLY INTO THE LARGEST CAVE EVER INTO A MASSIVE LAKE. * "Oh, THAT wasn't the map. THIS IS THE MAP."
And I believe it was in Inferno Mines....
"Hmm, I see a sign at the bottom of this ladder. I wonder what it says?"
"Why am I hearing popping noises?"
"WHERE'D THE LADDER GO?!"
"WHERE'D THE WALLS GO?!?!?!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
fallen right into Vech's literal web, I could practically hear him whisper "clock is ticking!!" as I dangled over the giant pool of lava. There are chests around. Distractions to kill me, no doubt! I fall through only to catch another web. Precious seconds left. I finally manage to swap to an ender pearl and teleport to safety, hyperventilating all the way. But what was up that shaft, anyway? This mysterious message left by Vechs?
Does anyone here remember an old CTM map that was this big sprawling city? I remember a highschool, it had a gym, and a football field.
I remember it too. All I can tell is that it isn't any of them currently available for download, and I recall it had an easy and hard mode, the hard being where he removed all the light sources from the map turning the city into a monster infested hellscape.
Aha! Found it. Regular version: GIFT. Hard version: GIFTwarped! http://www.openyourgift.com/minecraft.html It was a commission with an author. Looking at the date of Paul's playthrough I'd guess it was for version 1.2.5.
In my search I also bumped into another "bonus" map that I had played through: Soaring No Longer, based off Paulsoaresjr's survival world. Very creative, but alas, not available for download anymore. All we've got his his playthrough of it:
At last! With a grand total of 15 deaths, Iceolation is conquered!
One of the first things I did was see the hard difficulty and go "pssh, not gonna happen, I do super hostiles on Easy because I'm a filthy casual- aaaand you swapped it right back to hard. There's a difficulty lock, so going that extra mile just to troll is appreciated.
definitely a slow start and between dungeons, no nat spawns can make it feel very empty.
the diamonds were so well hidden they felt like an easter egg beneath that waterfall, I only bumped into them as I was pouring over the map trying to find the grey wool. Surprisingly unguarded.
A lot didn't seem to go anywhere. She kept talking about 50 KC so I thought something would happen, the more temperate Valgarde was brought up, she talked about "summoning potions and arrows", (edit: watched DevCom which explained most of it) and something about The Dark Lord? Though that book did lead me to bumping into the secret dungeon with the sword in it, which was definitely rough with those punch skeletons seemingly spawning everywhere ignoring light levels.
I liked how the feesh mines and zombies seemed impossible with my wimpy leather and stone equipment until I poked around elsewhere (the other direction) and found blast resistance and other supplies. 5 minecart chests of supplies and an iron armor skeleton grinder later, I came back with a vengeance!
That grey wool was VERY well hidden. I guess it was good that I didn't find it until the very end, even after the bonus dungeon, because it was tough as balls. o_O More of the bonus dungeon's completely hidden, light-immune punch skeleton spawners whittled me down as I tried to keep myself from freezing to death from the frequent water segments. I finally see on the horizon the grey wool box, blinded by joy I charge it, only to get mowed down by vexes with sharpness swords from the evokers. By some miracle I made it back the way I came without getting lost again, got my stuff, and tunneled around the evokers.
I noticed the removal of elements of Inferno Mines such as most of the OP minecrafter-themed items and the random loot chests. In all honesty that just made me massively over-hoard and almost never use the OP rewards out of fear of losing them, that "too good to use" trope.
Overall a very different Super Hostile experience due to the spawner-only mobs and temperature mechanic, but don't make the same mistake I did of underestimating it!
Just found out the forum's set to be archived, and can't remember my old login, so I made a new account really quick. Came here to say thank you for the maps and the fun times. I was an active member back in 2013 or so, and these maps provided a ton of entertainment. In particular, shoutout to the Monumenta crew, if any of them still read this. Hope y'all are doing well, and keep on making awesome maps
Found out the forums will also be archived, all my posts are gone oh my. I can still see some quoted posts. But I'll just post here for archive sakes. Was fun chatting back then when the thread was super active.
Thanks to everyone for the fun times, Vechs thank you for the maps! I've played them several times over the years, still enjoyed them nonetheless regardless of my opinion on them.

Eh who cares, you might as well do it now since waiting will get you to the same place.

Indeed. If this is goodbye, I want to give a big thanks to Vechs for all his hard work. Not everybody manages to create a whole genre of MC map. I've loved the whole Super Hostile series, even the ones that made me want to throw my monitor out a window (sometimes especially those. :P) Devious traps, relentless challenge, and bizarre/creative area designs that stick in the memory for years.
Help D: I died with an airship part and there was only 1 in the chest.
I cant complete the map now. How do I proceed? Can I make the chest respawn the airship part? The old maps used to have like 24 wool in each chest so you could just take 1 and try again if you fell into lava or something on the way out.

I assume that was done both to make it harder and because the redstone doesn't discriminate as to which airship part you're putting in (so you could put in 10 white airship parts and be done if that was the case).
Still, I saw redstone hidden beneath the airship platform in Vechs' playthrough with some buttons to spawn stuff in. I believe Vechs himself had to cheat there because he held shift while holding the wool and pressing the button.
What are the best versions to play old maps like the sea of flame I ? The pack is called beta 1.7.3 legacy pack. But i remember these maps are older, does newer versions impact the gameplay ?

Going by the timestamps on the map files:
Sea of Flame (1.3H), Endless Deep (1.2H), Infernal Sky (1.2H), and The Kaizo Caverns (1.1H) were all released for Minecraft Beta 1.3
The Black Desert (1.0H) was released for Beta 1.4
Canopy Carnage (1.2H) was released for Beta 1.5
Legendary (1.2) was released after Beta 1.7, but it was probably designed for Beta 1.6 (given Vechs's note in West Commons, as well as the fact that it doesn't have any pistons)
Sea of Flame II (1.0), Infernal Sky II (1.0) and Sunburn Islands (1.1) all require Beta 1.7
With that in mind, many of those maps can be safely played in newer versions, but some of them made significant changes which could break or otherwise unbalance the maps:
Beta 1.6 changed it so wooden pressure plates pop off of TNT, which will break some of the traps in Sea of Flame (e.g. under the first tree), The Kaizo Caverns (all over the place), and Canopy Carnage (a few spots along the east edge)
Beta 1.7 changed it so punching TNT breaks it instead of igniting it, making it trivially easy to harvest TNT from traps that you weren't meant to be able to disarm (e.g. at the beginning of Black Desert). It also added "primed TNT", but I don't think Vechs started using that until much later.
It should be safe to play most of the early maps in Beta 1.5 just for the ability to shift-click items between inventories. Beware, though, that Beta 1.5 has a tendency to glitch you through the floor during save/load, so you might want to make a habit of pillaring up a block before quitting.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
Well then. I did not know that Iceolation has been out for so long, let alone that it's hosted on a site separate from what's linked in the OP. I'll have to give that a go!
Hi, first sry for bad english, i have problem and i need help. Me and my two friends play iceolation and in miners cavern we got rocket box part but my not smart friend turn that box of part in magenta block. Is there any way to return that in box of part again ?

Is there any way I could get the Sea of Flames II map on PS4? If so, it would be greatly appreciated. thank you!
