But, i don't want any pesky texture packs, i like the way minecraft looks as is and the main reason i don't want one is that i don't know how to properly install one and it's just too much of a hassle.

The texture pack only does a few minor alterations, and leaves most blocks untouched. Right now the only blocks that have been reskinned are Pumpkins (TVs) Glowstone (Flourescent lights) Sponge (Unlit flourescent light (not that you'll ever use sponge) and netherrack has been adjusted to look like burning coals, but we'll release another version that doesn't alter netherrack. No major changes have been made, you can disable the texture pack when playing normally, and odds are if you have trouble installing the texture pack you probably won't be able to install the world anyway. But you can still play it without the texture pack, if you really want to.
EDIT: About SDK mod, here's how it'll work: We'll have two versions of the map. One for if you'd like to play the game with SDK mod (and have it installed) and one for those who don't. I'd recommend that if you plan on playing it online, that you have SDK mod installed because a laggy server can make sword combat extremely frustrating.
The texture pack isnt necessary, nor is SDK's gun mod. Your gaming experience would be better, but you dont have to install it.

Is it possible for me too help build with you guys?
Im afraid you cant actually build with us as this isnt a server based game. You can construct buildings and PM them to me, see the original post.

I don't have a building design, but remember to put some hidden or hard to get to areas in the city. Valuable/useful things would be given to the player at the end.
That was the intention. The harder it is to get to the box, the better the items are.
I really like the idea, but going to take a lot of work. Love the screenshots, I might want to help in this but I am busy right now with my world, so sorry.
You can put me down as a builder/beta tester if you need it.
Will do. Beta testing might be a little while away, but hopefully it will be in the near future

Remember cars. They have to be everywhere to get the real atmosphere.
Ah yes. Cars. We thought about putting them in, we even tried at one point. Its just contructing a car with square blocks is quite hard, they have to be huge...
A warning to builders:
To try to break the monotomy of massive stone buildings that seems to be forming, we're modifying the texture pack some more. We're trying not to change any major blocks, but the changes will include making planks (as well as the wooden stairs and fence posts that share the texture) painted white, since the raw wooden version doesn't really fit anywhere other than in certain floors. We will also be repurposing sponge, so please don't place any more powered-out flourescent lights for the time being. We know that changing the texture pack is a bit irritating right now, but it's better to get this sorted out now than later. Thanks for cooperating, and good luck with your building!
I just took the texture pack down temporarily until we can get everything sorted out with it. It's not that necessary yet, all you need to know is that pumpkins are TVs (and jack-o-lanterns are on TVs). Also, like I said earlier, we're going to be repurposing sponge, moss stone, obsidian (which is now tar), iron ore, cobblestone (which is now cinderblocks), lapis lazuli ore and lapis lazuli blocks. Unpowered redstone is white lines (mostly used on roads and parking lots) while powered redstone is used to represent power lines. Sand and sandstone might be getting a retexture, but most likely we're going to either leave them as they are or change them every so slightly.
Texture pack is back up, we are continuing to build the city. Changes to the style of the city ARE being made, will edit the original post tomorrow so you have right building specifications. For now, sleep.

Dling the texture pack now, and I will definitely submit some buildings to you in the near future!
