This is all nice work! A nice trick to do with chests is to count 8 layers above the chests and put a torch there, so the chest is lit enough to see it, and I don't think it will interfere with mob spawners, so It will kind of look like this=

By the way, I've been working on a similiar project, and I'm currently building a hospital for it, and I think you could use it for yours. I'll send it as soon as I finish! :smile.gif:
We are trying to avoid using torches wherever possible, and if we do use them we stick with redstone torches. Nice colour + dont give off much light, and easily visable in the dark.

I will try to support by making a building tomorrow.
its probably gonna look like an obstacle course, and i would like you to add in mob spawners yourself.
i cant do it right here, because im not at the right location for it.
Remember to keep it looking like a building. We are trying to keep it as realistic as possible, floating blocks tend to not exist in normal cities . You can do stuff like jumping across gaps in floors, and if you fall you will land in fire etc.
I just sent my hospital building to you :smile.gif: Hope you like it, sorry for all the torches :3 I'm just a little tired from all that work i didn't go back to take them out :3

Also if you go left and all the way down the hallway I forgot some blocks there, I apologize for this, although it is only two blocks :/

Theres no need to ask permission, if you want to help simply make and send in a building, and ill add your name to contributors!
Well, due to the inundation of requests for playtesters, I've decided to give you all a test. The following is an old version of a building that is soon to be in the city. You must run through it, and post about a paragraph response in the thread. The best 5-10 responses will be part of our closed testing, so we'll need you to be able to provide some objective feedback on what we're working on throughout the project. Try to find as many flaws or faults with the building you can, provide advice on what could be improved, and an estimation of how difficult it is (so we can reward players appropriately). Screenshots are appreciated, but please link to them, don't embed them (this thread would get clogged otherwise). Here's the save file, good luck!
EDIT: also remember, if you can't work out what to do in the mall, there are 2 chests within the mall and your secondary objective is to stem the flow of mobs and/or colonise the building. If you run out of torches you CAN take more from the chest, the restriction on torches is just if you plan on running through it and not colonising it.
EDIT2: Also, since this feedback is for the fixing of problems, be specific about your criticisms, particularly the locations. "The fire is annoying", for example, is far less useful than saying "I accidentally walked into the fire located in the lobby a few times, you should move it or make it harder to accidentally walk into"
EDIT3: There are going to be chests on the roof, and on top of the shops in the food court. So, try doing a lap of each.
Well, i tried the Liberty Mall, and i must say it is very challenging.
I found a couple of problems with it though, such as the rooms had monsters clumpings inside them, and if you could light up the place enough the spawning was limited, even on hard difficulty. Though lighting up the place did have its challenges espesiacially on hard (obviously), the only thing is that with the intended stone sword it was very difficult at times, i would suggest making it so the player used an iron sword (which greatly improved my survivability) and the armor did last for long enough if you were careful and didnt rush through things.
That being said this would be a challenge for a newer player to minecraft.
Also a couple problems with the spawning, the monsters seemed to be spawning on top of the small establishements and it was very difficult to light those places up, but the building itself was very well thought out, i had a couple times where a creeper blew up and pushed me into a hole so i could fall to my death.
Very enjoyable, the building would be best if it was played on hard.
Diamonds for you good sir!

I did the test building, and I died pretty early into it. The whole thing felt more like a huge mob battle than trying to survive. There were way too many creepers too, stuff was getting blown up left and right. The equipment that was recommended was definitely not sufficient. hope this helps

yeah, it was pretty rough at times. i think the spawning just has to be tweaked and also the lighting thats already there changed around

I found it the exact opposite. When I tested the building, I found it quite easy to light up and to fight. Using smart block placement, the reccommended equipment and some basic survival, you can easily survive for a day inside. I guess thats because ive been testing all the buildings myself as well.
Ill wait until we get a few more tests completed until we make a final decision.
Video preview added, will upload another at a later date. Work is continuing on the city, havent made a lot of progress but we have made progress nonetheless.
Horizon city reminds me of KF, since the company horizon created all the specimens. But the map looks epic. :3
Good work.

All right i've been thinking.. when life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade, MAKE LIFE TAKE THE LEMONS BACK. GET MAD! I DON'T WANT YOUR DAMN LEMONS! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE?
That was absolutely excellent, exactly what I hoped for when I first saw this thread. The difficulty level was fittingly high, and the constant threat of creeper explosions made my experience a really desperate bid for survival. Seriously, I found myself resorting to creating makeshift shelters within the mall, which gave it the interesting twist that only Minecraft can deliver.
Now for (constructive!) criticism.
I felt like the chests should have been in a higher, harder to reach area/level of the mall. As I remember, they were fairly close to the entrance. Also, for this particular map, it seemed like there should have been some goodies on the roof.
This map really got me in the mood to submit something!

Glad to hear you liked it. Yes, I think we, or rather TappTapp (it is his building) has changed the position of the boxes and made a series of improvements. We would still like everyone's opinion to we can continue to make changes to the city as we build it. Better now than when the city is almost finished.

So do I..
We are also aiming to have a video out in the very near future, so keep a look out for that.
EDIT:That was a stupid question. Disregard that.
I'm quite the shady customer.
May as well answer it in case anyone else will ask that question
Yes, everything acts the same, they just look different. (Lighstone, Jack-o-lanterns etc still give off light).
