Was trying to avoid bringing any attention to it till completion but I was convinced by others to get an erly look out of my city.
The time already invested in this is unbelievable, started way back in Septembre. From just paint drawings of dimensions and designs. To a notepad file filled with an estimation of lava blocks, torches, glass and everything else that would be needed for its construction. When I set out and started digging I didn't think I would be doing so at an average of 8 hours a day for almost 2 months. The lava proved even harder to get into place, being a vanilla SMP server I refuse to use any kind of spawning tools. Having other people helping me run around with full inventory's of buckets emptying the depths of our world of its lava.
Anyways its still a WIP and in its current state only about 1/4 complete.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Update 1:
Hi checking back in.
I think im up to over 800 hours spent on this so far. and its going to get even more painful now that im down to my last couple of diamonds left.
With my last big time sinks being the great library (I dread ever farming that many reeds ever again.) I can begin logging all current events that happen on the server via signs placed on said books.
Update 2:
The Armory, Forge room, mines and the Great Library are now complete.
I really need to get the bio dome started to get a more reliable source of food. Or the temple so I can intomb the endless hours of gameplay i've invested into this.
BIG Update 3
Been a while since i've updated and this is why:
Its taken so much longer then I thought it would. But atleast the biggest project inside the city is now complete. This also means im 3/8 of the way done the entire city!
Fantastic design! Quite impressive. The scale of that is just jaw dropping. :smile.gif: I refuse to believe that's only 1/4 of the whole project. Great job.
However, just because your video editing software includes 50 transitions, doesn't mean you should use them all... in the first 30 seconds. :smile.gif:
While unbelievably impressed and hoping for a schematic download I am not sure why you did this part way "legit".
You used the tool repair exploit with the pick, I am guessing you did that a bunch to keep a diamond pick handy. Course I am kinda black and white about these things, if using an exploit might as well use MCEdit to create the hallways.
Either way it looks amazing and am looking forward to the download my fellow dwarf!

The torches randomly placed around are there for when I first turned on mobs they were spawning all over the place, they're only there temporarily.
I dug out a good chunk of the first part with only iron tools (Think I even have a clip of that in the vid). THAT was ridiculous and had to make the switch to diamond and keep using the refresh bug to keep myself from going insane.
I have no idea when ill be done. With how busy I find myself with other games and class, I wouldn't doubt not until summer or later.
Loved the entrance and the spiral-stairs leading up to the surface. Very impressive project overall!
Just one question: Is this done legit by yourself? If I counted correctly the size is 16x16 on those hallways and they go on for so long. Must have taken days in /played to dig the hallways.
I am currently working on my own dwarven kingdom, the rub is that early on i determined myself not to make any gratuitous rooms or buildings just because "there should be a room there."
As a result my fortress takes on a deathstar-like not-quite-done look and I've sort of hit builder's block with it.
While I await inspiration I'm constructing a massive monster trap which spans from the heavens down to bedrock and building the odd structure on my landscape or mapping out the kingdom-limit walls and laying down markers.

Anyhow, well done and good luck!
I'm interested in your current project, maybe you can take some screenshots of it, or even a video! It sounds awesome.

Yes, it is legit. And no not days, months.
+ 1
for you
One day, I shall construct Mithrall Hall!
During the entire thing, he was going more and more insane. He saw blocks in his dreams, even started seeing the world as a block shaped world.
I'm almost speechless...
If everyone had this much determination, we'd have landers outside our solar system by now.
Keep up the breathtaking work, good sir! o_q
You, sir, are a king among men.
