I have a map that I have been using for research and development, it has proved to be very useful to me and a few others that I have shared it with. After reading another thread with a similar style map I decided that I should register and offer mine up as well. I mainly use the map for designing traps and redstone circuts, but has been useful for other things at times as well. Let me present a list of features and some screen shots, or you can skip all that and just download it from here http://tinyurl.com/EngineersMap
The map is completely flat as far as the eye can see aside form chunk 0,0 which is where you spawn and it contains a 16x16x2 platform to keep mobs away. On the platform are some Informational signs I added in. And Several chests packed with building materials and goodies.
At the very bottom of the map is a single layer of bedrock, then 63 layers dirt. Then a layer of lightstone, followed by a final layer of dirt. The lightstone layer makes for a quick and easy method to light your project and makes creating underground collection points/wire corridors/control rooms build faster as you dont have to worry about torches.
The save was made right when the sun is first cresting the horizon, and your inventory is packed full of the usual things that you need in order to start a project. So as soon as you load the game your ready to goto work. Also your character will be wearing chain mail armor to prevent damage/death. Even more, he has a STACK of 64 diamond swords/picks/spades so you wont be interrupted by needing to replace broken tools.
There's always inventory editors and other hacks, but if you don't feel like using them or don't have them installed, I have you covered. The chests on the island contain everything you could possibly need for your project. Redstone device and redstone itself have been kept to a minimum, but there should be just enough to build a moderately sized project without creating too much strain on your system. I have compiled a complete list of their contents:
So far in my minecraft journey this map has saved me quite a bit of time and helped to keep my normal maps clutter free. Its also brought some entertainment by experimenting with new features without having to worry about breaking the world I play in. I hope that you all find it useful if you decide to download it.
Ohh well, lol, you sure you want to know? Im a C programmer and I made a few scripts and a simple program. Threw in a hex editor and out popped this map. If your still interested, there is a file and program in the download (its a linux binary and bash shell script)

Dude seriously just do you know, this is awesome, I'm the guy who built the hogwarts map that is currently on the frontpage, and it all started with this map. So thanks :smile.gif:
I'll start positive by thanking you for this great building map . But I seem to be taking damage from nowhere when I leave the spawn platform is this normal ? I'm guessing it won't work in beta now ?

I will test the piston mod here, i feel like im really close to discovering something
I judge them by their avatars.
This is the only map of it's kind (glowstone/flatland), even with the hilarious chests of items and whatnot, I still use this.
