Nice speedrun. Excellent use of captions.
Different style than my videos, where I always prefer to let the viewer get the full enjoyment of the experience (I occassionally "act" lost and repeat common mistakes to aid in this, even though I've played through the game several times)
merlinus will probably be able to give a better estimate, but by my best estimates, I'd say we're about 50% done. Almost all of the creative stuff is done, the rest I think is technical and brute force building of the designs and layouts. However, thanksgiving is coming up, so there will be a bit of down time, plus merlinus probably has exams before the New Year and then there is Christmas :tongue.gif:
I'm hoping that we'll be able to get it out before Christmas so that everyone will be able to enjoy it over the break. However, no promises!
Sorry I've been away from the forums a bit - thankfully I have a faithful comrade-in-arms now =) For the record, ScaryMuffin is the man. Seriously, don't know how I did all this without him on 1 and 2.
As he alluded previously, we are nearing the 50% mark. Almost the entire game is planned out, and between 6-8 massive rooms have been constructed (minor tweaks likely required, but essentially complete).
That said, I'll be gone all week without a Minecraft-capable PC and will likely be extremely busy for the week after as well with finals. I infinitely prefer the end result to be excellent rather than timely, so please be patient. I promise the end result will be well worth the wait =)
For any/everyone who is willing and able to put some time in constructing... PM ScaryMuffin. I'm going to put in some time tonight (during a boring class) to condense some ideas into a constructable format. That way, he can dole out work as he sees fit while I'm gone.
I just wanted to say thanks to all the people who are helping and have offered to help. If you have a puzzle idea that you would like to share, feel free to PM myself or merlinus.
Currenly, Fish is helping out with the texture pack. It's not quite a priority yet, but I figured it's a good idea to get started on it sooner than later :tongue.gif:
As far as construction goes, we're still designing and perfecting rooms. After merlinus comes back from the break, we might start gluing all the different rooms together into a masterfile and seeing what we need to do from there.
If you want to help us test out some puzzles, I have at least one puzzle that I want people to try to break
Anyways, have a great Thanksgiving everyone! If you get bored, try speedrunning through EC2 and tell me your time from the moment you first walk past the "under construction" portal to the time you trigger the true ending. There are certain shortcuts you can take (such as not using armor for the maze and saving it for the end so that you don't need to grab all of them). Have fun and eat lots of turkey!
WAY TO LAGGY!!!
to much water, to much fire for my laptop to handle =(
it pissed me off
but i found a trick =)
instead of setting fire to the whole room u go back and turn that Archway into a Nether portal, then you are in the Nether and oddly enough u are near the Nether Portal that you put there, if you search around you will find some Slow Mud and u can grab that to build a bridge to the Portal that you made and BAM!!! you are at the "Real Ending"

... Your problem. I had no problems there. Plus, the Real Ending is for LATER. Not Room 2! (?) You spoiled a whole bunch of stuff for yourself. Also, it you had done it right, you would have no need to grab slow sand.

I'm fielding a lot of questions about installing EC on various operating systems (XP, Mac, Windows 7 etc). Unfortunately, I don't have access to any other OSs other than 7, and thus have no idea where to MC puts the saves. If someone would either write up or point me to better installation instructions, I would greatly appreciate it.
In other news, EscapeCraft 2 has now hit 3000 downloads, and EC 1 is sitting at a comfortable 2700. All I can say is "wow."
I am now back from Thanksgiving break, but have some serious work to do before my semester ends in 2 weeks. EC3 is coming along - more thanks to MrScaryMuffin, Sweetness and other volunteers than my own efforts. My schedule has kept me limited to designing rooms rather than constructing them, sad to say.
It looks like EC3 will come with its own custom texture pack, which is pretty exciting. Thanks to you all for your support - and keep the donations coming!
may i ask what program was used to make this? was it invedit?
While I did some of it in MCEdit, most of the work was done manually with inventory supplied by invedit.
To be more specific, the larger structures (i.e. the "shell" of many of the larger rooms) were made with MCEdit (which is a much quicker way of making large boxes). All of the redstone was placed by hand, as were the signs, switches, buttons, torches, and other "details."
In EscapeCraft 1, I made virtually EVERYTHING by hand (simply because I wasn't confident in using MCEdit yet). If you look at the exterior of the rooms in that game, you can still see a lot of scaffolding that I didn't bother to remove. I'm comfortable enough with MCEdit now that I will likely do almost all of EscapeCraft 3 with it - though, again, redstone wiring, tracks, and anything that attaches to walls really has to be done by hand.
Also, I've discovered that you can do a lot with MCEdit that simply can't be done by manual block placement... I'd go into more detail, but I don't want to ruin any surprises.
Not to derail the thread or anything, but how do you use MCEdit when whenever you place the blocks everything vanishes and takes a second to become visible again?

That delay depends a great deal on the speed and memory of the computer that you are using. Like MC itself, this seems to depend more on the raw hertz of your processor rather than the number of cores. My 3 year-old custom PC (4g RAM, 3.9 Ghz) has almost no delay when using MCEdit unless I'm creating VERY large edits (the stone cage surrounding the whole level for instance).
In contrast, using my laptop to make things in MCEdit this weekend was insufferable - same RAM, but a mult-core setup with lower hertz.
All that said, for large builds MCEdit is STILL much faster than creating this stuff by hand, even with a significant per-edit delay.
I found that building railtracks and redstone stuff is nearly impossible with MCedit, so I've been doing those in game with some help from Invedit.
Most other mass creation stuff I've been doing with MCedit. Sometimes, I would handcraft something in game and then duplicate parts of it for the rest of the room or clean it up and finish up the walls/ceiling in MCedit.
My home computer does everything pretty fast on MCedit. My other computer is significantly slower and I do get that few seconds delay that is so annoying. If I'm working on two parts of a room that are far enough apart, I can actually edit one side and edit the other side immediately, transfering the "blank out" section back and forth as I work on both unhindered.
