I think it should be contained inside the cube, only if there is enough to keep us entertained. EI lots to explore, different levels - bridges between buildings etc. :smile.gif:
Keep it up. Any testing i'm happy to help with btw :smile.gif:
Theres going to be TONS to explore, dont worry about that. Lots of buildings of various sizes, tunnels, subways, sewers, bridges, everything!
Looks awesome. After playing broville in the apocalypse version, I was wanting something as epic.
The only thing I don't like about it is the water, as seen from the latest Screen. I don't think holes blown in a large building would have water spewing out of them.

nonsense. Buildings have plumbing. The pipes break...water!
this is pretty awesome.
one question, how can you make sure the dark areas will ONLY spawn zombies? is there a way with an editor to stop other mobs from spawning or are you going to rely only on spawners? i can see a problem with A) creepers getting naturally spawned and blowing up an important building and no way to fix :cool.gif: dark areas + zombies = awesome, dark + spiders, skeles, creepers = lame cheats.
also i think you should make the city rediculously large and then some of the area outside the box be decorated so there is a place to "escape" to and win, but make this very difficult to achieve. without tools sounds cool because youll have to come up with a way to survive without just placing blocks and foiling dumb AIs. i say this is win.
There should be some sort of story or something to it right? That'd be cool. Also you should add little chests around the area you can find with valuable materials or items

So far the only thing I can think of is to spawn so many zombies that theres no room for other mobs. (Thats alot of zombies BTW)
Creeper explsions probably wont damage anything important, as nothing is really considered important. Theres no "Super magic item that makes everything die"
Plus building a good shelter is pointless as I provide you with a scure respawn point. If you want to be a baby just stay there. if you want to explore the danger...
No escape is possible.

Im leaving some nuggets of story (Mostly as to WHY zombies are everywhere, such as labs, etc)
as for chests...trust me. By the end of it, youll be sick of chests. (theyre the only way to hold items after all)
...of course the chests will be mostly barren, holing nothing but some bread/meat or maybe a stone sword or two, a biw and a few arrows, possibly leather armor...
There will be some chests with valuable stuff though. Iron armor and weapons, golden apples,
and one chest will have
-a diamond sword
-a full set of diamond armor
-a bow
-128 arrows
-and three golden apples
You should make it so pieces of it are scattered in the chests, like a couple sticks or something are in one. A couple diamonds are in another, etc. And there could be workstations in the buildings so you have to make the items along with finding the parts.
Oh and since no one has really brought it to attention, i'd like to see you make a texture pack for this. It could be awesome :biggrin.gif:
Just put a few fence "barricades" as if the government quarantined the area; Good map design is key.
Any way I could help with this?
As soon as my Styx City project dies down I'd love "replicating" something like this. I'm not a college student, so I'd probably update it more, and I have lots of experience with L4D/GMod mapping.
EDIT:
I'd love beta testing when the time comes and helping with the buildings, as I said above.
As long as it isn't time-consuming, I can balance Styx City and helping you with this.
building it on an SMP server, but playing it in singleplayer; That I can see working.
It also opens the opportunity for about 5 builders working on it at once.
I've always wanted a map where the player starts off in a built world, such as a city or village, and they have to survive in it and start with nothing. The player will tear down structures for supplies and essentially cannibalize the city to survive. There is no power (no torches) either, so the player will run through dark streets at night. I'm really hoping for a large and detailed city. Sparse tools ans supplies. One thing you could do, is there could be challenge rooms. For instance, at the top of skyscraper there is a monster spawner. If the player can overcome the challenge and destroy it, below is a chest filled with an iron sword/pickaxe and a few pieces of meat. Keep the rest of the world realistic, though. add bedrooms, bathrooms, maybe even a sewer system. It would be amazing.
If you need any help with this project, please, let me know. :smile.gif:
Escape from the city is possible...via the Nether!
There will be a partially done portal in a lab somewhere, you need to find the other piece(s) of obsidian, rebuild it, and flee into the nether. The use another portal inside the Nether to get out of the city.
Ravenholm from Half Life 2. The town.
which escape those who dream only by night.

Oh. Ive never played HL2, so I wouldnt know.
Its coming, slowly but surely.
Though once I get my new partner up and running, progress will be much faster!

Good. Video ga,es are bad for you.
New screenshot up as well as a progress update.

Yeehaw.

but a silly adminite wall is...
Well, silly.

About the adminium wall: Its actually looking good. It looks sort of like buildings you just cant get around. Im leaving it in.
Or maybe Ill just elevate the city incredibly high so that way, if the player escapes, he falls to his death.
Which would be better?
like L4D killing zombies to escape....
i want that....

Yes.
