Everything is still working now that we are in 1.9.
Now that we are in 1.11, two data tags need to be updated: armor_stand and area_effect_cloud. I made the update in the commands for copy and paste, but the videos show the outdated data tags.
Other than that small edit, the map still works in 1.11.
This first video sets up the core feature for the map (The Pumpkin Unlighter). A series of command blocks will slowly and randomly turn out the lights. As more and more lights go out, more zombies will spawn. Last player alive wins.
The content for this map was inspired by Jragon014. I took something he presented and expanded on it. His tutorial is great. I have linked his video tutorial here as well. If you build maps, you should subscribe to him.
We try out our Pumpkin Unlighting Machine to test the feasibility of the map. We also set up some zombie spawners, make the map permanently night, and make it so it will never rain.
Commands for Copy and Paste
Give yourself a mob spawner
/give IGN mob_spawner
Use a zombie mob egg to change the mob_spawner from pig spawner to zombie spawner (right click).
Use a Command Block so it will Never Rain
Use a Repeat - Unconditional - Always active Command Block
/weather clear
Use a Command Block so it is Always Night
Use a Repeat - Unconditional - Always Active Command Block
/time set 14000
This is a Much Better Command to Make it Always Night
Use a One Time Command to Stop Time then Set Time to Night
Start by looking at the bottom corner of the build you want to copy, type "/clone" then press space tab, space tab, space tab, and enter. This will save the x y z coordinates for the block you were looking at.
Then go to the opposite top corner of the build. Use "t" to bring back the partial command you put into chat. While looking at the opposite top corner block, press space tab, space tab, space tab and enter. This will save the other x y z and the command for the area you want to clone. It will look like this "/clone x y z x y z" Now you have designated the object to clone.
Go to the area where you want to place the build. The command will always place the build toward the southeast. Look at a block where you want the northwest corner to be and use "t" to bring back the clone command. While looking at the placement block, press space tab space tab space tab (to insert the x y z of the placement block). When you press enter it will place the building.
The total command will look like this (with x y and z represented by numbers):
/clone x y z x y z x y z
Simple Move Command
After designating the object to be cloned into chat (see above), go to the block where you will move the build and enter the placement coordinates. The command will end with some additional language, "masked move."
The total command will look like this
/clone x y z x y z x y z masked move
Filter Command
This command is for moving just part of a build. You will only move the blocks you name at the end of the command, use this additional language, "filtered normal minecraft:name of the block that you want to move"
The total command could look like this if you just want to move the cobblestone blocks
/clone x y z x y z x y z filtered normal minecraft:cobblestone
If you are enjoying this thread or have questions and feedback, please let me know.
I am always looking for people to collaborate with. I need to complete the village and this map will be available to play.
In the pumpkin-unlighter, there was an error in the spacing of the summon armor stand command. The snapshot didn't seem to mind, but in 1.9 it ceased to function. I fixed the spacing in the first post on this thread and the commands as written above will work.
The video is from 1.9. The data tag for AreaEffectCloud is now area_effect_cloud. The updated tag is in the commands below for copy and paste, but the video shows the outdated tag.

I agree with your statement about the infected zombie name. Maybe I was going for infectious zombie, since they give you slowness.
To detect players, I set up a command block machine in the first video in this thread, above. It seems like it is only detecting one player, but it only looks like that since it's just me playing. The command block machine teleports invisible armor stands randomly about each player, within a 20 block radius. When the armor stand lands on a glowstone block, it changes the glowstone to a redstone lamp to make the area become dark. If two people were playing, each person would have invisible armor stands randomly being teleported around them creating darkness.
I think you could make the armor stand teleport around just one player by inserting their name in the first chain of command blocks where it says, "@p." You could also use a tag where it says, "@p" and then teleport the armor stands around all players with the tag. This creates a lot of possibilities. You could create a parcour that goes up a mountain. When the player reaches the top, they step on a plate and they get a tag. The tag allows armor stands to be teleported around them which changes block to achieve a helpful, or harmful effect, like an enchantment or curse.
The command block machine uses two command block chains. The first command block chain is powered by a clock so I can bring down the amount of ticks per minute. The video explains it and the commands are pasted below (also pasted above below the first video).
These commands were for the original concept using lit and unlit pumpkins.

We take a look at three clone commands that are useful for map building: 1) clone/copy; 2) clone/move; and 3) clone/filter.
Jragon014 has a more intensive and thorough look at the /clone command. Check out his tutorial here.

Commands for Copy and Paste
Set up a fast clock that will repeatedly power regular command blocks that have these commands.

I agree with your statement about the infected zombie name. Maybe I was going for infectious zombie, since they give you slowness.

I tested the map out, video below.
I also tested the map out in multiplayer with Ironpine. We are going to record a multiplayer game on Saturday, to be posted here.
