Ist this mod compatible with the aether? I would really like to try it out, but I am currently exploring the Aether and do not want to mess thinks up. It seems that the aether terrain generation would work well with unlimited Sky.
No unfortunately it's not compatible at this time. They both overwrite some of the same java classes. It's early times though, much will likely happen regarding compatibility over time.
Personally; the Aether Mod would be a perfect example of something that would be great to have be built on top of the Cubic Chunks Mod. That would allow the Aether realm to actually exist in the same world space as the ground below! You could even build a tower tall enough to be a bridge between the Aether and the ground levels. :wink.gif:
For now you could back-up your ".minecraft" folder, the one that includes your bin and save folders, and install the Cubic Chunks Mod onto another copy of it to play with and rename the two folders depending on which one you want to play at any time. :wink.gif:

I've installed the SSP client for CC but i just don't get how to install the SMP CC and start my server. Could you explain it?
Also I've tested worldedit, and it works with his mod, but i have one problem. It works only on 1-128 height limit even when CC mod installed and working. Do you have any idea how to change it?
To help with testing the server you will need to be sure you are using both a client and server with the same version number. Currently this is v1.42, the SSP only version is currently v1.31 . When you install the Client you will also need to install Modloader first just like the SSP version, However; you do NOT install Modloader or even ModloaderSMP for the server itself, at least not for the current version.
Other than that and that it is not yet bukkit I believe it is set up in the same way as any vanilla server. Unfortunately I can't yet tell you much more about how to set up the server than that. The tutorials for vanilla server set-up and port forwarding should do the job for now I think. :wink.gif:
Until then Robinton & marcopolo1613 have both been able to set one up for their own testing. They could likely help you with the details over in Robinton's thread where the testing is going on. I do know that if you are having trouble with port forwarding that Hamachi does work with this like with any server.
Good luck and thanks in advance for helping to troubleshoot the SMP version! :smile.gif:
[EDIT] Updated this post 7 hours later, please reread.
[EDITx2] I've added a link to this post and also in the OP Installation tutorial to a very good Tutorial on installing and maintaining Vanilla MC Servers. It should help a lot! :smile.gif:
[EDITx3] Regarding WorldEdit; go here for some good news and help with that. :wink.gif:
1. It looks like the Cubic Chunks Mod - Clientseries, currently at v1.42, is now the standard supported series moving forward. It supports bothSSP Single player & SMP Multi-player use. Remember though, the Cubic Server Mod, currently at v1.42x, is still very much in an experimental phase. :wink.gif:
2. A new section has been added to the OP here called:
Support Tools & Mods ( Tools & Mods that directly support Height Mods )
3. WorldEdit XT [WIP] is one of the tools listed and linked to in the above mentioned new section. This is exciting stuff! sk89q has given Ciduxekpermission to develop this Cubic Chunks Mod compatible version of the famous WorldEdit. ** Thanks sk89q for allowing this conversion!!! :smile.gif:
Many features already work. The Work in Progess version can be downloaded and used right now! Swapping the worldedit.jar with the new one from this project will give some of your Single Player Commands wand functionality back at all elevations!
One thing though, I went ahead and installed the cubic chunks mod. But I'm not sure it worked. The game loads, but the world looks exactly the same. I know the terrain generator is the same, but is there a way I can check it worked? I mean, besides digging 250 blocks of sand in a newly generated world and trying to build a 1 block wide tower to the skies?

Absolutely! The Cubic Chunks Mod has Robinton's Coordinates Info Mod built into it. So if you press the [F4] function key and it toggles a set of X,Y and Z Coordinates into the upper-left corner of your screen then at least you know the CC Mod is installed. :smile.gif:
But after that, Hurry up and build a dirt stack over y = 128!! And do it with [F4] on so you can see your level then take a Screen shot of it with [F2] and post it here! :biggrin.gif:

Showing people how to find the necessary mods or means for increasing the vertical space in their worlds and then showing how to get those solutions working under various conditions (Instructions which do not even exist in the threads of those Mods) isn't a tutorial? Then what would this be called and where should it go?
How much of the OP did you honestly read? Did you even go through the Install Instructions for the two main methods?
There are tiny "tutorials" in the Tutorial sub-forum for installing simple things with maybe 3 lines in them. How are they a tutorial and this isn't?
Pay no attention to the guy. I, for one, have added this very thread to my favorites, and check it several times a day. The second you add a way to make the world generator work like in those screenshots you posted, I'll be rolling all over the download link like a pig in a pig-sty.
And to be honest, this is a textbook tutorial, dunno where he got that from.

At level over 2000 it says "saving chunks" and then when it's done i have just black screen. Is it right place to write about it or report bugs somewhere else?
[EDIT] Actually, this thing also happened, when I was faling from 2000 high tower on about 1600 hieght. But it didn't happened when i was falling into 1000 deep hole. I guess you have less chunks to generate when you are falling into a tunnel, becouse it's just walls around you that border the space, not everything in the sight.
I appreciate you bug reporting. Robinton needs to know about all of them. But do please post those directly to his thread. And also please tell him which version you were using when it happened and if it was SSP or SMP. And also let him know about any other mods you might have installed at the same time, if any. Thanks!

Well, I suppose I should start with the new Cubic Chunks mod version; and not just because it's a new version, but because it's a new HEIGHT! That's right. I've mentioned and hinted at this before, and now it's here!
The Cubic Chunks Height Mod, as of version 1.44, has raised it's Vertical space from 4096 blocks up to 65504 blocks! That's (-32k to +32k). Find the download link in the Installation & Downloads section of the OP like usual.
Here's the very first Proof of Life Screenshot from Robinton. :smile.gif:
Yeah, that's the magic of the 3D Chunks method. Expect the next bump to be to 4.2 Billion blocks eventually. :wink.gif: For all those disbelievers, for so very long, it's pretty much time for some serious self-examination at this point...
This new 64k version is only the Client Side for today, Robinton hopes to have the experimental SMP Server 1.44 64k version available by tomorrow.
* There may still be extreme edge-case bugs up at the very top of the height limit, don't expect them to be first priority though.
-----------------------------------
Mouse X has brought to our attention the Simply Hax Mods. It has a fantastic Fly Mod that is compatible with any Modloader compatible mod and is Not put into the .jar file, you just drop the downloaded .zip file into the .minecraft "mods" folder! It even works at the same time as the SPC /fly command! It has a completely different, in my opinion better, flight control method than SPC and has a much faster ascend & descend.
* Also; blakmajik, the creator of the Zeppelin Mod, has told Mouse X that the next version of the mod will allow it's Max height to be adjusted via it's config file! This will possibly allow people to use this wonderful and incredible Mod with the Cubic Chunks Mod.
---------------------------------
There has been more success with experimental Terrain Generator patches for the Cubic Chunks Mod! The patches are definitely not for public consumption yet but are producing absolutely amazing results even with a 256 max Terrain height. There is so much to look forward to!

I'm just having one problem though, trying to install the 1.4.4 version of it. According to the instructions, I installed ModLoader first (copy all files into minecraft.jar). Then, I did the same for the CubicChunks stuff.
Made sure to do it with a fresh minecraft.jar after backing it up and all that - I know the drill, I've played with several mods already, but all separate.
So, installation should be all set then. Now, whenever I load up minecraft to try out the Cubic Chunks mod... after login, I get a "Updating Minecraft: Done Loading" screen. That's all... it sticks there and nothing more.

Did I do something wrong?
Well, just to make sure, did you delete the "Meta-Inf" folder in the .jar file if you are using a PC, I think Macs do it a little differently? Other than that it sounds like you did it right. It's working for me on XP with Java 7 32 bit.
If you have a different configuration and still cannot get it to work then please do post a detailed report in Robinton's thread so that he can see if it's something he'll need to fix. - Also, do you have an HD Texture selected right now?
this is totally awesome. is there an ETA for when the terraingenerator will be available for us mortals?
It sounds to me like there should be a better working early version patch available sometime this week. :smile.gif: The current patch is stuck at a terrain height of 256 and was built against Java 7 so it won't work on java 6. We're hoping to have those both fixed for the next version. And if they are then I'll post a DL link for it here.
Even then people will be experimenting with the many PTM settings and sharing their good results with each other to test even further. It can produce some truly wild results, but it make take some testing with the settings to get what you specifically want. :wink.gif:
Some Great news for the users of IC, the Industrial Craft Mod! Robinton has altered the Cubic Chunks Mod Client since version 1.42 and up in a way that makes it possible to use both of the mods together. :smile.gif:
I don't think I ever got around to mentioning it, but for a version or two now, I've included the IC "World.java" "ModSaver" hook along with a dummy "ModSaver" class. If you're runing CC and IC, install IC first, then install CC, but don't include "ModSaver.class" from CC!
So:
1. Install Modloader 2. Install Industrial Craft 3. Install Cubic Chunks * BUT do not copy over it's "ModSaver.class" file. 4. Play!
I'm a freaking dumbass. I completely forgot about that Meta file, even though pretty much every mod needs it removed.
Well, thanks for the quick reply! It works now, so yeah.
I guess its time to try the Phoenix Terrain Generation version...
I suppose that leads into my only other question: will you guys be releasing a CubicChunks mod with updated terrain generation? Or, if you have (other than the Phoenix mix), how do you get that to happen?
Also... is there some NPC or something added in this mod? I towered up to check the height, and some dude called 'Robinton' spawned there... scared the crap outta me...
