There's a picture on Reddit of what looks almost like a world created with wedge. OP claims they're working on a mod that changes height to 4000 blocks with terrain generated all the way up and down. Said it's still in the works. I'm very curious about this and I'd say it's worth keeping an eye on it. Which you can do here.
Great catch Hopfenkaltschale! Thanks for sharing that here. And yeah, that is an amazing looking world that guy shows pics of on Reddit.
* Here are 3 pics from that guys world; for quick access: [Click to open]
thanks for posting that
I couldn't find the pictures in question. I don't use reddit much as I don't like the layout and style, find it a little confusing.
No problem. Yeah, I had to dig around to find a couple of those, one was in another linked reddit thread aside from that one, but they are all from the same world.
It certainly should be possible for them to make that mod. I'm presuming they are making their Height Mod by extending the Anvil system, but I don't really know what they are up to.
* Ivorius has essentially already included an Anvil Height Mod in the newest version of MineUp. If you wish to you can get rid of all but the main layer in MineUp then just change the Layer-Height. This will produce the same effect as an independent Anvil Height Mod. And if you want the coords to go into the negative then you can use 2 layers in MineUp (Main world + one layer beneath it) and still adjust the layer height (All layers will be given the same height).
** With Ivorius's GravityCraft+MineUp API you could just write a new Terrain Gen Mod that directly interfaces with MineUp and produces the same effect as the Height Mod these guys are working on, and maybe have it done in a week? Or as long as it takes to tweak the PTM open source code that is likely in it.
-- Warning: Changing Layer Height in MineUp to anything greater than default 256 will likely make it impossible to edit those layers in MCEdit or other tools, for now. (The same would be true for any world made with the Height Mod proposed in that Reddit thread.)
yea their mod is great I had a look at their thread on there .it sounds like a unique way to do things although what i'm interested in doing is making land which is more natural looking when generated and for mountains to scale up incredibly high like an actual mountain .i'm not sure if the ptm code ever managed to incorporate such an idea? I think I remember the main development was abandoned not long after such a thing was suggested.
I always mean to learn more about the cryptic art of BTM/PTM terrain settings, heh heh. btw: I believe that PTM has restarted again, please let me know if I'm wrong. But it had gotten pretty powerful, to the point of being able to define different settings for different areas if I'm interpreting what I read correctly.
But yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about regarding realistic large terrain generation. I've had a number of talks with various modders over time regarding various concepts involved in making such a generator, such as Meta-Scale features (Continental) etc.

ah thankyou minecrak I didn't realise the development news and updates had relocated to another place on the web. I assumed it would still be posted to minecraftforums as news on here was slow I thought development had slowed or halted. I best check that other site for any new info from now on!
No problem. I was quite relieved when I found that out myself.

Hi! Myself, and many others, are looking for a way(mod?) to increase minecraft's height. It appears that there have been many mods in the past that have done this, but can't find anything, or any info, on new releases, eg 1.5.2-1.6.2.
Can you offer me any advice?
Thank you for your time!

Other than Mojang's ongoing "semi-secret" side project of trying to up the official height of Minecraft to 2000 using quasi-cubic chunks, which they've been working on for at least many months now, I'm not aware of much else current but then I haven't been paying attention due to a long-term family crisis I've been going through.
However; at least for mc1.5.2 you can still use the SpoutCraft method to get higher worlds. They won't be updating that legacy method for 1.6.x but it will still be available for 1.5.2, though some are trying to update it to 1.6.2. Their method was using linear chunks back in the day so you might have speed problems with 512 height or beyond, but they may have updated to cubic or quasi-cubic chunks by now, I'm not sure. -- Their newer not-yet-ready-for-public-use Spout engine platform will be using a cubic-chunks-type of height engine providing infinite height, but I don't know when that will be available.
I will post your message and this reply in the Higher Worlds thread so that others can respond too if they are aware of any new Higher Worlds news for Minecraft. Thank you for your question!.

Thank you for your detailed reply!
Since the last time I had sent you a msg, I had found this forum. They have been working on making a Cubic Chunk Mod for sometime now, and according to a post(2:07pm), will have a working one for 1.6.2 available in about a week. Here is that link... http://www.minecraft...0#entry23712390
Either way, it looks like we are generating enough of a "fan base" to maybe turn some heads at Mojang. Though, if you have it right, Mojang is already at work on higher/deeper worlds.
Anywhoos,
Thanks again!!
I will info of your reply in the Cubic Chunks Forum.

Nice! I didn't notice anything in their Suggestion Original Post about a mod, other than in the title, I guess I'll have to read the last pages.
btw: The last contact I had with a member of Mojang regarding his height project was back in January of this year. And again, from what he described he wasn't using the same true Cubic Chunks as Robinton but they may still be good enough for the 2k height he was planning on.
It's a shame too, Robinton was willing to work with them on all of this so that they could have true cubic chunks, but they seem to want to do it their own way instead. If they ever do want to speak with Robinton again I can get them in contact.
btw: My Higher Worlds thread is now at the following location and open again:

FIrst: I'm sad to hear that you have been going through a family crisis, i hope that it gets resolved quickly/happily (whichever apply).
And second: Come again? I could swear you said that mojang, yes MOJANG, is working on a cubic chunks type terrain generation for a future update. Is there someplace this was tweeted or posted or where i can keep up to date on this, because i have a (sorry to put this image in your head) massive hard on right now.

Sorry, I don't know of any public announcement regarding what I posted. What I personally know of it was due to email correspondence between me and a member of Mojang at the end of 2012. Also; I've heard from sources that there have been some other semi-private developer chats in special forums with the same person in Mojang regarding the subject. Unfortunately I do not have any current info regarding their progress or lack thereof.

Hi! If I understand correctly:
1. You are unable to find working links for the Minecraft beta 1.7.3 versions of the following 2 Far View mods that exist elsewhere on these forums and you are hoping someone can give you good links for those mods. The links immediately below are only to the threads of those mods to verify that these are the mods you are talking about.
2. It also sounds like you are planning to use one of the beta 1.7.3 versions of the original Cubic Chunks Mod with those Far View Mods.
If those are correct then I have good news for you!
First, if you are planning to use version 1.5.2 of Cubic Chunks, the final version for beta 1.7.3, then you don't need to install another view mod, one is built in to that version that uses the same methods as sevenfour's mod! The instructions for activating the Far View Mode are [ HERE ].
If you want to use a separate far view mod with the prior "Normal" version of Cubic Chunks, [ CC 1.5.1 Client for b173 ] or even with 1.5.2 then just make sure you install the far view mod AFTER Cubic Chunks. Just know that the Cubic Chunks [F4] mode won't work anymore because any separate view mod will over-write that feature. The main mod should still work fine I think, but I can't guarantee there won't be bugs at all.
** I checked and see that the View mods you are looking for do not in fact have working links for their beta 1.7.3 versions in their home threads anymore. However; I did manage to find some other links that do work for them. They are inside of the following spoiler. Good luck and enjoy!
I was releaved to see this post as I almost thought this thread had died. Will definitly try out Mineup.
