A lot of people were asking me how to mod Minecraft on the new launcher. So here it is! Enjoy
1. Open your .minecraft
2. Go to "versions"
3. Copy the version that you currently on
4. Paste it in the same folder
5. Rename it to whatever you want
6. Open the new folder
7. Rename Every file to the same name of the folder you just named
(Note: If one of the files has a .json at the end, DO NOT DELETE IT! Also, if there is a natives folder, just rename the part that has the version you are on)
8. Open the .json File with notepad
9. On the top in quotation marks, there will be the version you are on. Rename it to the same name of the folder.
10. Finally, open up the .jar, delete META-INF, place your mod files in, and close!
Only 10 easy steps! Don't forget to back up your .minecraft
Enjoy your modded Minecraft
There is also a video tutorial on Youtube. The link is
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

This is outdated, about to redo it, making it more organized and up-to-date

You obviously did something wrong, and I'm sorry but I don't have a Mac... Yet.@Pstrand remove minecraft from your computer and start over, follow each step. If you still have trouble, click the Youtube link inside the topic

@MundyGill rephrase that, I don't know what you mean, @HawkBolt55 then it is something to do with your computer, try updating java, or maybe your .minecraft wasn't clean when you modded. Try clearing your entire .minecraft then starting over. Use the youtube link inside the topic@MundyGill delete your .minecraft, then run Minecraft and choose the version you want to mod then go from there

I've followed all of the steps in the video SCMowns posted (The one in the topic wasn't working): copied and renamed all of the 1.6.1 files/id's to MCModded, added a mods & coremods folder in the MCModded folder, and changed the version for my modded profile to load, but every time Minecraft opens, it's vanilla. The mods I'm running at the moment are forge (yes, I removed META-INF), Biomes o' Plenty and Tree Capacitor+ bspkrsCore. I have double-checked that all of my mod versions are 1.6.1. This problem has occurred in the new default launcher and in Magic Launcher. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I really haven't looked into forge but a guess would be that the 2 mods aren't compatible, because of an ID conflict. There are also forge tutorials on the forums.

@Gotheit If it says play offline when you change profiles, just click logout and log back in. That will fix it

By copying and pasting it somewhere else, just like you would back up any other folder or file.
