When the launcher downloads the files to launch the last version (1.14.4) the launcher stopped in the middle with the following message:
Failed to download file. Name: af_za.json URL: https://resources.download.minecraft.net/b8/b827f3feb40fcaae6ee3c67f2a0eb9cfd4808d1c Error details: schannel: next InitializeSecurityContext failed: Unknown error (0x80092012) - The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate. Any idea why this happens?
I saw somewhere that anti virus might be involved... I have Symantec Endpoint Protection and even when disabling it this issue still occurs.

It is because the version is so new, the minecraft launcher itself needs to be updated to let it work. I had the same issue like many others. It gets stuck on 'preparing' for me. When I go back a version, it works again. Try to get a new minecraft launcher version and see if it then works.
You don't need to download weird things. It's not a virus, it's just your launcher that can't take 1.14.4 right now.

Looks like the common issues with the old launcher.
The old launcher have been fixed. Update the old launcher to version 1.6.93 or use the new launcher.

I managed to connect my PC to some other network (using my smartphone as hotspot and connect to it using USB "wireless stick").
All the needed files were downloaded successfully and now the game is launched even when I get back to the regular internet via the modem.
So my guess is it relates to the network itself.
It seems that my internet provider has this service to block inappropriate content. So maybe some of the downloaded files are mistakenly identified as such...
Anyway - if this happens to u and nothing works and u don't have bytefence and other stuff like this - try to switch the internet network....
Hi,
I cannot play minecraft since last week....

Please help...
Thanks,
Post a HijackThis log.
Download it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/files/2.0.5 beta/HijackThis.exe/download
Run HijackThis as Administrator, click on "I accept", then "Do a system scan and save a log file".
Then a text file will open. Copy everything, then paste it on https://paste.ubuntu.com and give us the link.
While it does sound scary, it does not give us any personal or sensitive information.
Uninstall bytefence, run a scan with adwcleaner.
Here it is:

Thanks!
I dont have bytefence, and I also ran adwcleaner...
no success. :-(
Try uninstalling Symantec.
Hi,
I am not sure I want to do that.... I don't feel safe without it.
However,
I tried to disable it for a while from the app - still didn't work.
I tried to manually disable it (following these instructions) - still didn't work...
:-(

Hi,
Could you please tell meh ow do I update the launcher?
(or use an old one..?)
Thanks!
I think I have the most updated launcher.... I even checked the "use beta"....
OK- So I kind of solved it. Here is what I did:
