My MC has been broken for a while, probably since the 1.14 update. I've dealt with it by finding temporary solutions but now I'm tired of those and it's gotten worse.
If I load 1.14 or higher, I have to use the "task manager closing launcher" trick, the downside being that everyone is a Steve.
Any older versions than 1.14 would crash upon loading a busy server.
That was before. Now on top of that, anything older than 1.14 crashes (even loading single player).
I tried to use Forge to load a mod and I can't get forge to run. I can open Forge 1.7.10 universal installer with the Java application, but nothing.
I'd love for MC to not be broken, but every thread I read doesn't help, or isn't my situation.
Note that the only way to play is to load single player doing the task manager trick mentioned earlier (only vanilla and not Forge).
I've tried many things, but I'm afraid that since Microsoft bought Mojang, it's been going downhill to this point.

If you can't run the Forge installer .jar file by right-clicking on it and selecting Java, use a command prompt window instead. Use the cd command to navigate to the directory that the .jar file is located in, then use the "java -jar [name of forge .jar].jar" command to open it.
Do you have the latest version of Java installed? I'm not sure, but Forge may need the actual install of 64 bit Java and not the built in version that comes with Minecraft.

Thank you Conor,
That seemed to fix all my vanilla problems, however I wish I could say the same for Forge.
Forge still refuses to run, despite following download tutorials to make sure I did everything right.
If the Forge problem can't be fixed for now, I'm still happy that vanilla works again
Thanks again!
Post the launcher logs. Use https://paste.ubuntu.com/
It's not launcher logs.
When you download Forge you have to load vanilla in the same version, then you have to run the Forge .Jar file.
I can't run that file to load forge onto the launcher
To load Forge onto the launcher: Select the Forge profile and launch.
See this: https://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/topic/44986-new-launcher-how-to-start-forge/
That doesn't seem to want to work, it doesn't give me an option for Forge.
I've downloaded Forge several times in the past and all worked fine...
nothing on that page helped me as they have different problems.
I can't get past this part:
For some reason the .Jar file won't run.

This is what I got from that:

I downloaded the newest version of Java AND made sure it's the normal version and not the Dev. kit.
More or less the same error message, but slightly different.
Nevermind.
I did a bit more of digging on my own and found the solution. If you follow tutorials properly and don't screw up like I did, you should be fine.
Thank all of you for helping me!
