Whenever I try to connect, it keeps giving me this error:
io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException badly compressed packet size of 2708825 is larger than protocol maximum of 2097152
I've tried restarting my client and the server, and nothing I've found through a couple Google searches is helpful (it mostly relates to Spigot, which I'm not using on the client or server)

Ok. We removed Sync, and the issue is gone. Thanks
this happened on our server with a large mod pack not too long ago, the issue is that sync saves all of your shells as NBT data in your player file, so if you have items with a lot of NBT data or mods that add extra slots and whatnot all of those have to be saved to the sync tank, casuing a HUGE packet file to be sent whenever it is loaded.

did you or someone else happen to use a sync tank just before this happened?
Sync tank? You mean the shell creator/storage from iChun's mod Sync?
yes those
