Alright, I've just installed Minecraft on my computer. This computer is old, but it has a lot of memory, the drivers are all up to date, and Java is at it's latest version (version 7). However, every time I attempt to open minecraft it crashes on the Mojang screen with this error report:

Can anyone help me? And by the way, I've uninstalled and installed Java a number of times, just to make sure I have the latest version. When I check Java, it says that it isn't installed for some reason.

Your computer is old. The hardware is old. You have an Intel Series 4 GPU and the most recent driver (which is old) has a fatal bug in one of its Open GL calls that every version of minecraft starting with 1.7.4 uses.

So, you can run MC 1.7.2 or older. You might try reading this: http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/references/intel-4-series-chipsets/ but only some people have success with it.
