When i attempt to play Minecraft on my browser (google chrome), it tells me that Java is not up to date even though I've gone through the update process several times. Other programs recognize that Java is updated so it is not an issue with Java. I dont know if that leads to my next issue but when i try to update, it gives me an error message : " Fatal error occured (4): Address family not supported by protocol family: connect " (the error message is cut off). If i dont try to update it, it brings up the loading screen and loads to about 9/10 and then stops. Thanks for the help.

Meaning minecraft won't be able to either.
Go into the windows control panel > Programs and features > then uninstall any java versions that are listed there.
Download the latest java from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Then install.
