Well I feel pretty ripped off right now! I read on the help site that there should be a contact link on any of the troubleshooting guides for who to contact for support, but I looked in several and there was no contact info. Wonderful support </sarcasm>. In my search I had to create several accounts at several different places and I'm no further ahead than when I started. Pretty unhappy right now, I just wanted to play some minecraft and I've been off on some wild goose chase trying to fix this ****ing game I paid for!
I played the demo and got addicted. To get the demo to work I had to follow http://www.minecraft...fix-for-ubuntu/http://www.minecraft...dora-17-x86-64/ these two guides to get it to work. I am using Fedora 17 x86_64 w/ OpenJDK 1.7. I played the demo fine and decided to purchase. I logged in the first time after purchase and it downloaded a update. Now when I log in I just get a black screen. The console displays this after the black screen shows up:
[jgooch@vana ~]$ ./startminecraft.sh
asdf

I tried deleting .minecraft and running it again, but no dice. There were two threads I found on google with a similar error, but they proved fruitless. Can somebody please help me?!
Look, all you gotta do is update Java. If you don't have java you won't be able to run Minecraft.
If you have a really weak computer, you'll have to get a new one. Minecraft is very easy to run so if you can't run it on your computer you really need a new one.
EDIT:
If you have Java up to date, you might have installed it incorrectly (Jacked up the files)
otherwise, you need a new computer. If your computer can't run Minecraft, it is probably because you don't have any space left on your computer to run Minecraft. If that isn't it, you need a new computer.
Sorry...

Java is up to date according to my package manager.
System Specs:
AMD Phenom 2 X6
8GB DDR2-1600 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 6970
150GB Intel SSD (almost 100GB free space)
I think my computer should be able to run minecraft no problem. Using the latest 12.8 Catalyst drivers.

I opened my package manager, clicked "install" next to OpenJDK 1.7, and then let it do its thing. What exactly did I do wrong? It was working fine before I actually purchased the game.

Undid some of this:
Try re-updating the LWJGL files as per that tutorial.
Nope didn't help.
EDIT: Also tried installing the Sun/Oracle JRE (7u7, latest) rather than OpenJDK and that didn't help.
Hm, after closer inspection that changed the error message. After some googling I found this guide: http://www.minecraft...ls/Update_LWJGL
That fixed it!!! Thank you everyone!
