For about $600 without peripherals you could get an i3+6850 build that can easily handle the latest games on at least Medium. Bump it up to $650 and you can play on High on pretty much any game.

Neckbeards! Doctor Cichocki does not approve of stupidity and neither do I, stop the spread of damned useless rules!
For anyone who is asking. My laptop right now is broken to sh!t. It will only sell to 350 and I am taking the step in getting a **** desktop then upgrading later. I just need something to do basic things, and currently I can really only run a browser and some videos and I need a computer for school work. I just got two bsod's yesterday trying to run a browser and I really don't have much time left in this laptop. You can gve me $500 - $600 specs but that is really just the max I can do
I haave a keyboard, mouse, possible monitor and maybe even a copy of windows 7. All I would need is the tower and the main meat of the desktop. I have these specs for a $500-ish desktop...

Can you not save up any more? We can get you a much better computer for 600 bucks.

A $400 rig can't do much.

Different ram if needed
Bad GPU. Get a 6850 instead. Your case is crap too, I'd go for NZXT Source 210/BitFenix Merc Alpha.
Son of a barrel. Left out the CPU D:. What is a good one for the $500 budget?
