I have a friend who says all beer is the same and taste similar so just because he doesnt like one he wont like the other, internet please tell him hes wrong....
Of course beer can taste similar, but that doesn't mean every beer tastes the same.
Next time you have a beer, don't ask for beer.
Ask for Lager, or Indian Pale Ale, or a Micro Brew, or a Draught, or . . . you get the picture.
Tell your friend to shut up and stop being an idiot as well.
Also @odiedodi I gather you're a cigar man, tell me what do you think of macanudo? It's been the only cigar I've had, and it is wonderful, but expensive do you have a similar yet cheaper alternative I could locate in Southern California?

I find it funny that the commercials for Fosters where I live (CA USA) stress the "Authenticity" of Fosters as Australian beer.
I do not imbibe, so that's all I have to add to this thread.
There's virtually no market for it here anymore. I can't find it in any of my local bottle shops.
Is that generally the only Australian beer that is advertised and distributed there? I mean, I know you could request imports and such, but I'm talking more widely available.

Hmm, yes as far as I know, at least in general. Again as one who does not imbibe, and especially as one who in current days watches little television I have seen many Fosters commercials, and none other as far as Australia is concerned.
All alcohol tastes the same to me. I think I have an exposed nerve in my mouth that gives me an overpowering dose of straight alcohol to the brain every time I drink or something, because all I can ever taste is the alcohol and I've been drinking(socially) for like 5 years.
I dont see what u guys have against it. First time i tried it I loved it. Tasted amazing. Great stuff. Dont see wy people need to learn the taste.
For some people, certain things have to be acquired tastes. For me, whiskey had to become an acquired taste. I, like many people, used to be put off by the very "earthly" taste it has, especially since I am a person who prefers fruit flavors. However, I learned to like whiskey, and now I enjoy it. It is the same for beer for some people, they just don't naturally have the taste buds for it.
OP, as far as beer tasting similar, I can understand. They all do have a basic taste that you can pin point in each one, even though each has a unique taste within that. It's kind of like with meats. Each part of the animal will taste different, but they all have a very similar basic taste to them. However, not liking one doesn't mean not liking all, it just depends on what about the taste he doesn't like.
In any case, if he doesn't want to drink it, don't make him. We all eventually find the alcohol of our choice, so let him find it.
Tell him to stop drinking cheap drink and buy some premium Australian beer (not bloody fosters >:( )
Surprisingly, Fosters is actually considered a premium beer these days.
But yeah, Australia brews a tonne of nicer beers over Fosters.

They don't literally taste the same, but the alcohol is the overpowering element and I can barely taste anything else.
