ok i just got a Sega genesis yesterday for 30 dollars at a fair with sonic the hedge hog 2 the Sega isn't that great the buttons don't work some time and i have to reset the Sega but the game is awesome but if you are new to sonic i wouldn't get the Sega the story makes no sense because its all game play that mattered when it was made but the boss is egg man. so the game is great for speed running like Mario but a bit easier to be fast because your sonic. the gameplay is great so go look out for a cheap Sega with sonic 2
btw the sega genesis isn't sold in stores it's not made any more it's an old console sega doesn't even make consoles any more

When I owned a Sega Dreamcast I would play Sonic 2 all the time, I have since played the game on a Sonic Collection disc for Gamecube. The game itself is pretty fun, I personally find it the best of the original trilogy of the Sonic games.
i have the game for my sega game gear, i don't know i like the game but the game gear is just well not the best system to play the game.

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
I was worried you were talking about Sonic ADVENTURE 2, not Sonic the Hedgehog 2. But my real complaint is the you claimed the story makes no sense. Sonic 2 is part of the Death Egg saga, which picks up in Sonic 3 and ends in Sonic and Knuckles. Play those to get an idea of what the story is.

Sonic the Hedghehog 2 for the Game Gear is actually a completely different game than the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog 2, different levels, music, bosses, ect. GG Sonic 2 isn't my favorite Sonic game, but I have fond memories of it since it was the first Sonic game I played (and I've always been a bit of a Sonic fanboy).
Genesis Sonic 2 is a great game (though of the classic 2d console Sonics I prefer Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD), but let me just say "curse you that particular part of Chemical Plant Zone Act 2, cuuuuurse youuuuuu!"
One can get the Genesis Sonic games on a ton of platforms nowadays and they're found in a ton of collections so they're easy to find. I usually play them on the PC.
On a side note, I seem to recall there's some sort of connector accessory thing for the Genesis that allows one to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2.
