Lately I've noticed a problem with all of these inactive hosting requests. I love seeing people interested in servers, but if they're willing to stick with it. I've witnessed many users that 'troll' or 'mislead' us(hosts) with their pots asking for a new host for their server. Plenty of times though, they don't stay with the idea and abandon their topic to leave us still posting and wasting our time when they've abandoned the idea. It's rude on many occasions because there are hosts that take precious time to write a special post for every topic they go on. The overall problem is that some people just don't seem to care or think they can joke around here. I personally don't think what most are doing is funny in any way, shape, or form.
Now, we could do so many things such as setting a time limit on posts so it locks it after 'x' amount of time. We could also make it so the OPs have to reply every few posts to keep the topic from closing. Even if we don't do this, we could inform people to please say they're:
1) Discontinuing the idea,
2) Still looking or
3) They've found a host and they're done looking.
Now some things may be more complicated than others, but overall it provides a better experience for the customer and the company. This could also show progress updates on choosing the host by saying yes and no to offers given already on their topic. The possibilities are endless, we just need to find a way to fix the problem at hand.
If you have a comment or suggestion, don't hesitate to post it because every little idea counts. If I messed up on anything, feel free to correct me. I know I'm not perfect so I might have made mistakes with some wording, sorry ahead of time.

Very well written. I agree, some sort of action needs to be done, but this section has been neglected for some time now, we need more Moderators, OPs, any rank really that can sort this.
As much as that is a problem, I don't know if your proposed solutions are going to work or not. Requiring people to post in order to keep their thread unlocked would amount to massive amounts of bumps, spam, and whatnot. Besides, in many cases, people might not be "joking around". They might have only forgotten about their request thread after finding a host, who knows?
This is one of those problems that nobody can really solve without taking some sort of really drastic approach. Most approaches to this solution I could think up of require probably changing the way IPB works, so I don't think they're very possible. I'd suggest that potential hosts stay away from threads that were created a relatively long time ago, but that has its own fair share of problems, as I know some people who have been looking for hosts for over two months.
As for the entire moderators thing, there are quite a few moderators and admins who regularly watch over Hosting. If you want to help out, feel free to take advantage of the "Report" feature
I hope this made at least a little bit of sense and didn't sound too bitter. If it did, I'm deeply sorry :c
I still fell payed and free should be in different places, but that's just my thought
I agree. I like the two different sections of "Minecraft Hosts" & "Other Hosts" but there definitely should be a Hosting Requests sub forum and then a Sponsorship Requests sub forum to avoid confusion and frustration for a lot of hosts.
Reformation of the Hosting Requests section here has been suggested and attempted numerous times before and nothing has changed in the 2+ years I've been hanging around here.
Indeed, this happened last year, when we wear all told it wouldn't happen.
Still tho, this is like mixing homeless with house buyers they just dont mix.
Who knows, maybe this year is the charm.

And you're willing to neglect the homeless? You're a silly business man.

It's enforced very well. Very... very well.
Even though i'm quite new here I agree with TKYS, it is enforced well. I got a almost instant reply from someone giving me tips on how to make my sponsorship better. When I looked around the forum, the Moderator's had done an amazing job of keeping it clean.
Maybe I'm missing something but there is numerous "copy-paste" offenders in every paid hosting request thread.

Don't worry, my team has noticed the same and they always ask me if they can Copy-Paste so I have to tell them no. I personally hate it and I'm never going to that standard. If PotionHost ever does post like that its because they're new to our system. We created every post original and personally I think other's should too. Truely though, the smaller companies are bashed for C-P more than the bigger ones because we made the mistake week one and got an infraction (Ouch!) since we didn't know. We haven't had a problem with staff towards us but I have noticed the bigger you grow the more lenient the staff here gets.
Also, thank you for all of the posts because now I know I'm not the only that has noticed the problem at hand.
Now maybe this is a bit off topic as well.. But according to the rules hosts that have been given permission to post in the main "Minecraft Hosting" thread like Phase Networks are not allowed to state we are an ''approved host'' on the forum? I think it would be a great idea if hosts that have been ''approved'' as such got some sort of forum badge to say they have been authenticated as a legitimate, stable company. I might be jumping the gun but i think from the buyers point of view it would certainly help weed out all the unregistered "kiddie" hosts out there. Not that this will ever happen... but it was a nice thought
I'm not sure you know the grievous consequences of creating a sub forum are.
Of course I'm sure of the consequences. The benefits of creating one obviously outweighs the negative impacts of doing so. You may disagree but that's your own opinion. Everyone have their own opinion and argument. There's no need to question me about my knowledge of these forums and the consequences.

Just my few cents
