Really, I only used mediafire direct download to use as a link for my first map (flavor fighters PvP). It was really easy to use and i had a secsessful post. But what i dont get is Adfly or Adfoc downloads because half of the ads that appear in the center are direct malware ads or just scams, plus if you hit the wrong place, your screwed. Which one would you rather use, leave your opinion and reasoning in the reply area.

Well, some people wish to support a particular person and thank them for contributing to the community. Just because it uses up 5 seconds doesn't mean you should not support someone who is taking time out of their day to make something for you to enjoy.
Adfly isn't even that bad. Yes, the ads probably go to malware sites. However, people aren't stupid. They make the real download link very obvious anyways. Like Deonyi said, it only takes a few seconds out of your life, and it gives them money without taking out cash from your own pocket.
I just use Adblocker Plus. Problem solved. But, however, I do indeed think direct is better. I don't like waiting for 5 seconds with a ton of ads shoved into my face. Waiting for 5 seconds with just the color white, however, is a little better... I guess...

I'm pretty sure adblock doesn't load the advertisements, and therefore the creator gets no money for it.
Ha! Do not ever speak for anyone but yourself. Some of us aren't thankless for others' work on providing and supporting something we enjoy. Others realize that donation links aren't enough when the vast majority of the community are kids whose parents will certainly not donate money to some online stranger, especially when nobody it's optional.
Yes, adfly is a complete bother for the downloaders, yes, there's a very small chance it can contain malware (it violates their terms but it is possible to be unlucky and get one before they're detected), but coding a good mod isn't any walk in a park either. I will certainly sacrifice those 5 seconds to support an exceptional mod who likely took hours upon hours, but using for a mod such as "put 2 dirt in crafting for diamonds"? Over my lifeless corpse.
Besides, the only people who get a virus are ones who do it on purpose or those who have no idea what they're doing.
I'm sure they'll enjoy that penny. You're such a model citizen.
I, too, am sure they will enjoy said penny. It may not look like much if you refuse to look at the bigger picture, but it certainly adds up. I doubt you'll find that a selfish, spoiled, entitled and/or thankless attitude will get you, or anyone else for that matter, very far in life, much less be a model citizen. Quite the contrary in fact, you're in for a very rude awakening. The world doesn't revolve around anyone, nor does it owe that same anyone anything. Play your part, or don't be a part at all.
First off, don't lecture me.
Second, I'm fully aware of the presence of the role morals take in decision making. My mommy and daddy have told me plenty of that kinda stuff when I was a little kiddy; the same people you seem to be trying to mimic here in the most annoying fashion possible.
I have my version just like everyone else has theirs. In this case, my morals lead me to believe that I shouldn't give a damn about subjecting myself to annoyances for the sake of someone out there getting a God damn penny. It's pointless and stupid. If I chose to use a direct download instead of ADfly, my penny would not be missed, nobody would care.
You say you're arguing for the bigger picture, but all you're doing is arguing for one of the miniscule sized pieces of that picture. A false sense of justice that a lot of people just love to pride themselves on, the kind of justice created from doing the small, pointless things. If you knew me personally, you'd know I'm actually quite a nice guy, but I make a point not to pet my ego on the nice things that barely make any significance at all. If I'm doing something nice that hinders myself in anyway or amount, which I quite often do, it's an act worth more than a simple penny.
This argument you were trying to start is beyond just pointless, which is why I replied with sarcasm. It didn't deserve anything more than that.
You brought up the argument, not me. I have the right to lecture you back.
Having your own version is fine as long as you don't go around encouraging others that giving a damn is a bad. By doing so, you'd be reducing their profit by at least one penny for every click for every person you convinced. As I said before, this adds up in the long run. Before you know it, the "small, pointless, insignificant" part is now a sizeable chunk of several people's parts. You may not realize it, but the mod makers will.
I like the part where you thought I was encouraging it.
Pride? Ego? This isn't about either of those things. If a person feels good about themselves contributing, good for them, but the point I'm trying to get across is beyond that person. It's about retribution, thanking someone's hard work with a moment of your time. The mod creator invested hours, days, weeks to make the mod just so you (and others) could enjoy it. What's so outlandish about thanking them? The money's not even coming out of your own pocket! This may be hard to believe, but there are mod makes out there who rely on their adfly income for a living, say, while they search for an actual job, when they're going through a rough time or for whatever reason.
"Thanks, here is a penny."
What a slap in the face. Putting these mod makers on the same level as the poor children in third world countries. I'm disgusted.
-reasons why it's annoying-
Don't wanna have to put up with any of it.
...and I'd be foolish to think I could brute-force that moment to come any sooner.
Adf.ly links provide a general revenue to people who have made content and want some sort of worth atokened to that effort. As previously stated, malware is against adf.ly's ToS, and the likelihood of even getting malware from just a page view on adf.ly is fairly unlikely. Play it smart and just don't click the ads.
Just like I have every right to reply to any of your posts in any way I'd like (as long as it's within the forum rules, but that's beyond the point), including to lecture you. Don't like it? Don't read it. Don't consider it. It's a choice; YOUR choice, and I certainly won't censor myself because people aren't ready to stand up for their own voice.
This is a forum, not a news feed. Arguments and discussion are inevitable, people won't just say whatever goes through their head and expect everyone else to nod silently and gobble up everything they say. One would think you should have learned that by now during your 13k+ posts.
It's not because you verbalized your opinion and tried to make an argument about it, it's because you made your second post in the most annoying fashion possible. Yea, maybe I shouldn't have replied with sarcasm in my first post, even though I wasn't looking for a random argument anyway, but I could have thought of ten million different ways to phrase your second post. A post that isn't seven paragraphs of heavy lecturing, implying I don't already know these things, which was basically a rehashed version of your first post, just longer.
In short, It's an argument, not trying to get someone to join a damn religion.
I like the part where, yet again, you make it all about you, thinking I was only addressing you and you alone.
At no point did I say those words, or words to that effect. I said I'd like my arguments with senselessness and anger. While heavily sarcastic, that is all I meant.

I agree with the OP (talking from a modders perspective) I would never use adfly as it is a known security risk. Ads on the site contain both links to sites that will download malware and drive-by installations (no clicking required). Yes this may be against their TOS, but the fact is they are still on there. Maybe they need better screening or respond to these threats in a timely matter but the fact remains that I would not feel right sending people to a site that could put their computers security at risk for a couple of measly dollars.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.

You're not alone.

Instantly reminds me of this
Although adf.ly is a good way on "quick" revenue it's a discouragement for their downloaders.
Direct will always go on top by popularity but adf.ly is fine to me.

This phrase caused a PM to be sent to my inbox, alerting me to the crisis. Where is sense being made around here? I'll put a stop to it, and quickly!
I'll take my debates with senselessness and anger, please!

Humph. Fine then.
When was I angry? I'm annoyed not angry.
