The advertisements poping up from the bottom are more of a hinderence to using the site then they are appealing. If you want people to not fight the ads and maybe even click on them more I suggest making them more appealing and user friendly. Something that is a hassle doesn't get business from a lot of people, instead it gets more people working against it to bypass the problem or just leaving the site all together and you'd be out of a business.
1. Force people into Premium.
2. Force people to leave.
It is annoying, and it is hard to type at times. Every page, you have to close it over and over.
Augh.
No one is being forced to do anything. At most, you're being encouraged to revert into premium, as for being 'forced' to leave, no, why would Curse want that?
All in all people, it's not your site to run, this is a business, if they need this ad to keep things progressing then they need it. It's most likely that at the moment they're only testing the waters though.
Yes, it may be annoying.
Yes, you may hate it.
But nothing in life comes free. I've seen sites that are millions of times worse than this one single ad and there's no one complaining about it.
I'm not sure what it was with that. It certainly wasn't Citric's site though, because Citric went against it. It was this, right?
I know you're just linking it to see if that was what the guy remembers, but remember this is the word of someone that was fired. If you got fired from whatever your job is, you probably wouldn't say things that paint them as great people.

2. I have adblocker plus and had to add this because when I loaded the site a HUGE advertisement for PORN poped up at the bottom of my screen, wtf....kids use this site
3. EVERYTIME i HIT POST it opens a new page advertisement wtf
You have malware. Please boot into safe mode with networking (hold F8 while rebooting), download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run a full scan.
Yeah, I know. I think Citric said that at the time, too.
His post is even outdated at this point.
It’s now painfully obvious that they did everything BUT take care of the servers. I’m sure anyone who’s ever visited the Minecraft Forums is very familiar with a 503 error.
When is the last time you've seen a 503 error? If Curse wasn't taking care of the servers at all you'd be seeing them dozens of times per day.
Curse might not be the best, I don't know I really didn't deal with them (I dealt with members, moderators and admin really), but they certainly aren't as bad as that post makes them out to be.

Within minutes of us hearing about it the folks on IRC made a custom filter for adblock that hides the ad.
Yes you need ads to run the forum, I understand that. Do you really need to make them so annoying? People won't buy premium to hide these, they'll either block them (like myself) or go elsewhere (like others)
I rarely visit these forums in the first place, I'll be visiting even less and I couldn't care less about Curse, the forums have gone downhill since you guys took over.

Do you want seats far back or close up? There's usually a lot of blood and vitriol sprayed around, but that's cool too.
Not in a while. It's thrown the occasional driver error, but that's it.
I know how long ago it was posted, and you have to admit, it was giving errors all the time back then. I'm glad that's fixed. I guess I have to thank them for that.
It was giving errors all the time, and they were working on fixing it (I don't know how many times I had to post that when people would complain about the 503s).

Ads that follow you down the page reminds me of a now dead site called GeoCities. It was just as annoying then as it is now. People in everyday life are inundated with ads, it's a sad part of life, but annoying in your face ads as this was? No thanks.
At least it seems to have been taken down for now, perhaps for further consideration? Or fine tuning? We shall see.
I just want to add as someone who manages websites and adsense things. Curse is probably making more money from ads than they do for the cost of their premium which covers EVERY site they are part of. So the fact that anyone here is saying they are forcing us to get premium is amusing in itself. You getting premium actually gives them the worst part of the deal. That in itself should tell you the kind of company you are dealing with. They are willing to loose money in order to make members happy while also adding so many other features for premium users that cost them even more money in the long run.
Due to a mistake when pushing the advert to production there was an issue with the capping. The advert is now correctly functioning; each user is limited to seeing it 3 times and then it won't show again.

Sorry about the confusion
Doesn't seem to be coded that way. This seems like a made-up excuse so you can have us all running back with open arms. Even 3 times a day is still annoying. And I'm assuming you mean just the ad for the new ads?
Either way, I will not be buying premium or viewing the ads.

No, that was the original intended purpose of the advert. It was meant to show up three times a day, not every page.

I question your questioning.
A legitimate error is made, it is fixed, and an apology is issued. You complain.
Why not add the same ad,but onto a different part of the screen?
I, like most people, hate ads that obscure the top or bottom portion of the screen. Why not move this ad to the side portion of the screen?
It is utterly stupid to just put a constant ad that takes up about 15 percent of the screen. And then I waste like approximately 1 min. of having to go over and click "X Close" on average when I get on this site, with the amount of time I change pages. I used this math saying that I spent around 10-15 min. here.
And it's just annoying. Curse just places it where we spend 1/5 of our time looking at when we scroll down.
Then the color makes it even more distracting.
THANK GOD IT'S NOT ONE OF THOSE ADS THAT WHEN YOU CLICK THE "CLOSE" BUTTON THAT IT BRINGS UP THE SITE THE AD DIRECTS TO!

With these new ads, I can see one of a few things happening.
1: Most users install Adblock and create a filter to block the popup. This results in Curse getting far less revenue than before because nobody will be viewing ANY ad so Curse doesn't get paid. A select few people buy Curse premium. And the remaining minority of people just suck it up and manually close the ad. Bottom line: bad for Curse
2: After a long battle that results in no change, most users give up and either buy Curse premium (which gets Curse less $ than the old ads) and the remaining people close the ads (no clicking revenue there). An angry community atmosphere remains. Bottom line: bad for Curse.
3: Only a few people use Adblock or buy premium. The rest give in and view the ads. An angry atmosphere remains. Bottom line: Good or better for Curse.
My estimate of these things happening: Senario 1 - 75%
Senario 2 - 45%
Senario 3 - 15%
My prediction is that the result will be a combination of Senario 1 with the long battle and angry atmosphere parts. I think Curse will not get rid of these ads any time soon.
I would suggest that the popup only be displayed at the top of each page and go away when you scroll. The top of the page is where people go to access the tabs that lead to other parts of the forum. This change would mean that people would probably be more accepting of this popup.
And BTW I have been using the Adblock app (99 cents) and it has blocked the popup well so I am happy (sort of) now.
