I believe the moderator applications are very flawed, I've already seen a new mod with a lower post count, and of which I know does not browse the forum much at all. I will not mention his name. However, I browse the forums all the time and have a significant post count. I've been thanked multiple times for redirections to the correct forums, introducing new users, and help in the support forums. I don't want to see like a whiny kid, and I'm not, but these applications are obviously flawed, mine hasn't even been touch and I was one of the first 100 to post a topic. It may be that I didn't bump it, but that just seems to look immature.
EDIT: I am NOT saying there is a correlation between good mods and post counts. I'm saying that people with higher post counts tend to be more respected users that deserve to be moderators. Please re-read the words TEND TO BE.
Moderation isn't a matter of post count or activity, even if those influence it. It's a matter about who the admins choose. If they decided to choose a newcomer, so be it. It's their choice.
Post count does not mean anything. Just because they do not post a lot does not mean they are not on the forums much, and they could be taking care of stuff through PM and reporting. If it was based on post count, it may as well be a popularity contest, which would be horrible for the forums.

Alright seriously, for clarification, I DID NOT mean that I should become a moderator exclusively for my post count, neither did I even mention that I even wanted to be a moderator, though it is obvious. I'm also not putting a correlation between post count and activity, I knew the guy for a very long time before he became a moderator.

This part is what I was responding to. If he turns out to be a bad moderator, he should be removed, and I slightly misread the part that follows. My apologies on that.

Post count shouldn't be exclusively the deciding factor, but it should certainly count. People with higher post count tend to be the more respected users. For instance, you have a pretty high count, and I'm pretty sure your a respected user around this part of the forums.

The amount of posts has nothing to do with someone's ability to moderate. The staff chooses people it trusts, and if in 200 posts the person has shown they can be trusted and are both competent and responsible, then they're just as good as a competent, trusted and responsible user with ten times the amount of posts n-n

High post count does not equal more respected users. Trolls can have a high post count, that doesn't make them respected.
Also, they are probably basing their decisions off of the users with the most experience with forum moderation etc.

That would depend on who you talk to. I know some people absolutely hate me. Enemies will be made along with friends, but new users do tend to respect what I say.

That's my point! Most older users aren't going to be the ones that needs warnings, It's going to be the new users that need to have a guidance by respected members of the forums.
I have enemies too, but I have a lot more friends.

You don't "deserve" to be a moderator. Moderating is a job, not a privilege. It does not require the respect of users either, only that of the staff. That doesn't mean sucking up, it only means showing you're competent enough for the job n-n
It may sound like we don't care about the community; on the contrary, we care a lot about the users. The majority of moderators were once regular users. We're just doing what the forum needs, and sadly that's not always what it wants n-n

Regarding your edit: it's not that users w a higher post count are more respected, they are just more well-known. That doesn't necessarily mean they have the ability to moderate a forum.

But that's my point. The people that get the job should be the ones that treat it as a privilege. Because the people that don't care for their job as much as the ones that do, obviously aren't going to do a job as good as the latter.

Anyway, just my thoughts. I may have destroyed my chance of getting a moderator by now, but I guess that's the way It's going to be.

Whining about someone else getting chosen kinda sorta makes you seem immature.
This is what I'm saying is flawed.
I said I didn't want to seem like I was whining, I just stated that the moderator applications do not support the best choices.
That would be extremely effective considering how late I stay up.
