For the while we had the forum update, there have been usergroups (in the User Control Panel). It hasn't been used much. It just says Registered Users, Founder, and hosts. (By the way, you can join host for some reason) I though this was going to help admins and mods but i haven't seen anything related to that.
What interestes me most, was that it said "some groups may give you additional permissions to view content..." How about hidden topics for Clans, clubs, ect? And that groups are able to have new members that can only join upon invitation of a group leader. It could help clans be a bit more "official" and they wouldn't have to make websites on their own.

Usergroups enable board admins to better administer users. By default you will be placed in a specific group, this is your default group. This group defines how you may appear to other users, for example your username colouration, avatar, rank, etc. Depending on whether the administrator allows it you may be allowed to change your default group. You may also be placed in or allowed to join other groups. Some groups may give you additional permissions to view content or increase your capabilities in other areas.
What do you think the usergroups can be used for? Should we leave it to the admins and mods only? Discuss.

Usergroups are good for leaders to keep track of players. Up to date member list. Plus, it would make resigning a group/clan a lot easier.
Possible user groups? : 1.Clans
no need to explain... 2.Classic Miners/ veterans
Group for people the were around before survival 3.TOL
I haven't seen anything recently with this. Could have their own forums. when someone wants to join, ask a current member to make a topic in the forum to get referrals to join. 4.Support team

Interestingly enough, TOL still i used across some servers. Rarely but still used, it saddens me that not enough attention is put into such a well developed project.
All good clans have a own forum anyway and it wouldn't be that good for all the small **** clans, of which everyday come 3 new.
I was talking about the larger, more official clans. Some clans don't have forums or don't use the ones they make.
You didn't think new clans were going to get a forum the moment they make it, did you?

It's for people who think "Hey, I can't really be bothered finding good players to make op who actually play in my server and know how things work around here, so I'll just add this huge list of "good" ops who I don't even know and will probably never even come here!"
And too many groups is a bad idea because they will be very poorly managed or not managed at all.

1. There will never be usergroups for clans. Ever. It would be the most useless thing on here and will only cause bad things.
2. This could be implemented, but then I see 2 problems arise from this. One is the fact that it could promote elitism in a negative way, the second part would be people begging to get this while "claiming" to have been around before survival. There's been a bunch of people that could have been before survival that never have even have heard of these forums. If they come by and see this, what evidence will back them up?
3. TOL has their own forums (by Zachariasmith), and their own wiki page. If a usergroup were to be made for these, restrictions upon entering would be a bit more tougher than what the currently are for the sake of not having retarded people not tramp around and be retarded with it.
4. This is probably the best suggestion here, and this one I'd be willing to hear about.
5. This already exists.
If usergroups are ever implemented, the last thing I want to see and try to prevent is 1. People begging to be in a usergroup, 2. Tension between different usergroups, and 3. Usergroups bragging about about their status in the community in a dickish manner to normal users.
Unless there's going to be a group of "le old elite du classique" or some ther french **** that sounds like a group of pimps, then no, I don't agree with this. There are enough retards on this forum and I can see the madness raising already if this goes through.

Paypal transaction ID, for one, although that won't cover freebie peeps.Pretty sure users can request their date of registration over at Notch tho.
QK, the dates aren't stored afaik. I think I read him saying that somewhere anyway...
Bert. I think support team would be the best, obviously it should be a dedicated team, no bosoes like me who don't give a **** anymore because people are too lazy to ****ING SEARCH THE GOD DAMN ****ING FORUM THE ****TARDS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. *panting*
But yeah, other than support team, no I don't like this idea.
I just go by my receipt date from PayPal. While I did play for a little while before actually purchasing, that's at least a solid date to go by.

As for a usergroup for that, while fancy to wave around, it doesn't really serve a purpose. Besides, we're all playing the alpha right now. Technically we're all going to be "veterans" when the beta/full game comes out. A support team could be useful, though. Could also be used to organize a nicely laid out full tutorial for new people.

this is the first topic about usergroups.
And I don't see much activity from TOL.
Another thing: i put this under discussions for a reason.
