Discord seems to be the only viable option, to be fair. Planet Minecraft is pretty eh, the wiki is mostly for information... yeah, Discord seems to be the only viable option.
I don't know much about Discord, other than it is a chat-type site, while Reddit, the only other place online where I've been active with regards to Minecraft, is pretty similar - nobody posts mods there, and you can't make any sort of long-term survival journal-type threads (they even lock them after a few months, and there is no real way to categorize posts and the way it is designed most are only visible for a few hours) and it isn't as easy to use for this sort of content (for example, inserting spoilers, images, or formatted text; for this reason I've made very little mention of anything that I've done there and frequently linked to forum threads for more details).
What will be the replacement for things like this?
Maybe something like Tumblr might work for threads like that. Even Notch still has his Tumblr page, even though he hasn't posted to it in years, it is still available for anyone to see.
I may get in trouble for this, but I've already been working on a new website/forums for news, downloads, resources, etc... Still a lot of work to be done, but it's a start.
why are we getting rid of the forums what you gonna do to replace it
nvm miss read im so confused? are the forums being closed all together or just getting rid of the news part
The forums will be set to read-only mode on June 16th, which means that no new threads or posts will be able to be created after that day. This will affect the entire website, so every section, as well as the news section, will be read-only. Even though nothing new will be able to be posted, all existing posts will remain visible in the short-run, at least.
Say something silly, Laugh 'til it hurts, Take a risk, Sing out loud, Rock the boat, Shake things up, Flirt with disaster, Buy something frivolous, Color outside the lines, Cause a scene, Order dessert, Make waves, Get carried away, Have a great day!
The FeedTheBeast reddit (r/feedthebeast) started out as a forum just for the FTB modding team to discuss, showcase, and support their modpacks, but quite a while ago it's become the #1 spot for all modding in general. Every mod developer uses it to announce updates, to tease in-progress work, to announce something important, and to ask for opinions. Developers also chime in on support threads to discuss deep-coding stuff regarding why stuff is broken or why it can't be fixed or whatever.

I sort of doubt that they would be interested in mods for a 6 year old version that almost nobody plays anymore, much less develops new mods for, and non-Forge mods at that; I've had at least one person reply to me in a disparaging manner when they asked me about one of my mods because they were interested in it and I gave a link to it (here is a reply I found that somebody made to somebody else who wanted to use one of my mods; "Go ahead and right click on the jar and click "Move to Recycle Bin." Mods shouldn't be using jar edits anymore". That said, a post somebody made on Better Than Wolves, probably the closest comparison to TMCW, was well-received, though it was in the general Minecraft Reddit).
There's a banner at the top with a link to the News post, I think that's all the information us users have.
But it sounds like "forever", basically closing it down but keeping it as a read only archive.
Still useful in theory but the search function isn't all that good, most people that need help don't put in the effort, or don't know how, to find old answers to their questions and of course the old answers will become out dated as the game continues to be updated.
I will miss this even tho i didn't use this much, atleast after this forum closes i will still be able to come back and see the forum, also i think planet minecraft is our best option as [deleted] dosent look good.
Please don't post links to that site. They appear to be reposting mods and resource packs without authorization from the original authors.
Yeah the problem with most other minecraft forums is that they are all either not very easy to use or bare bones. Curseforge is pretty mush just a modding community and Reddit isn't really set up to be a forum, you would have to be able to organize all of the forums on one page with a reasonable amount of people joined to them all. I think that Planet Minecraft forums might be a good alternative, though in my opinion it isn't as intuitive as this one.
Discord is kind of on the reddit side too, any questions can easily get buried in other questions unanswered.

so yeah this forum is the best one sadly
Here's my pennies worth...
....IF I understand right Curse 'brought out' MinecraftForums a while back...
....Curse also has their own forum 'CurseForge' - which in your words is 'mush'
....If Curse already owns this forum - they must already have all our logon/registration details
So how about this...
......Why not create all the different MinecraftForum Sections that are here onto the CurseForge Forum - starting afresh with clean forums, allowing more 'up to date' help to be posted
.... Transfer all the 'active' members that have posted here (let's say those who have posted in the last 6-12 months) & transfer those members details onto CurseForge (since they both use Twitch logon)
......Also add a 'new' Forum section for 'Top 100 MinecraftForum Posts' - members can post links to popular posts that are on here (for reference etc) - then Curse can add some form of voting system. Other members can then vote on the posts/links & the links with the least votes get removed from that section (a bit like Reddit)
So, the forum is being closed for new messages, see news, where do we go instead?
Not Discord I hope!
Very sad!

I'll miss it!
Just testing.
Yes, and the Wiki is remaining, but what options are there to replace the forum?

We could have a new website, with a new domain. Maybe someone could make one?

When I thought minecraft forums was being archived I was mad I was told June 16th now its June16th and I'm still posting loL!
minecraft.net and the minecraft launcher both give news. The best place to discuss the game is probably r/Minecraft or r/MinecraftSuggestions.
The best place to get community help with the game, however.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(she/they)
Get my 1.10.2 modpack :D, Quae Machinis (Machines and Things)
Have a nice day!

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

How lovely! What an amazing time I decided to join! Will the forum "freeze" forever or for the time being?

Looks like we have to bring [deleted] back to life? Or what about Planet Minecraft?
