Due to the ownership transfer of Curse Media (our parent organisation) -- Curse Media has been sold by Twitch to Fandom -- we need consent from every user in the EEA (European Economic Area) to transfer their data from Twitch to Fandom, this is to ensure that we comply with European law (GDPR).
The users you are seeing with "user-[number]" names are members who are within the EEA but did not consent to the transfer and therefore their accounts have been deleted. The process is ongoing and will continue through the weekend, so during this time you may see some content display and then disappear. Once complete, every user who did not consent will be deleted along with their content.
For any user who has had their account deleted and would like individual questions answered please submit a ticket, I cannot provide user-specific support via the forum. A ticket can be submitted by following the instructions here: https://www.minecraftforum.net/meta/support.
If anybody has any questions about the transfer of ownership, the relevant law or the consequences of this for the forum, please let me know here. I will provide as much information as possible.
Can I ask which article of the GDPR this is in accordance with?
I am not a lawyer and not speaking on behalf of our legal team, so don't hold me to this, but my understanding is Article 49:
"In the absence of an adequacy decision pursuant to Article 45(3), or of appropriate safeguards pursuant to Article 46, including binding corporate rules, a transfer or a set of transfers of personal data to a third country or an international organisation shall take place only on one of the following conditions: [...] the data subject has explicitly consented to the proposed transfer, after having been informed of the possible risks of such transfers for the data subject due to the absence of an adequacy decision and appropriate safeguards;"

How to consent when we've not been asked?
I can't speak for others, but no1 asked me for anything, then suddenly the forum is completely messed up on my end.

Every user who was identified as a user we needed consent from would have received the following:
1. An email on December 17th, titled "Important Information About Your Curse Account"
2. An email on December 19th, titled "*CORRECTED LINK* Important Information About Your Account"
3. An email on December 25th, titled "REMINDER: Consent Required for Uninterrupted Service"
4. An email on January 8th, titled "❗FINAL NOTICE: Consent Required for Uninterrupted Service❗"
These emails were sent to the email address used for your Minecraft Forum account, you can verify the email address used for your account by visiting your and looking at the "Email" field.
Additionally, a consent pop-up was displayed every 5 minutes on every Curse website to every user who had not yet provided consent, so you would have seen a dialog asking for your consent while you used the Minecraft Forum.
Unfortunately, if users ran software designed to block page elements (like AdBlock, uBlock and NoScript) and also did not read their emails, then it's very possible they would not have seen notice about the requirement that we obtain their consent. We understand that this is frustrating and upsetting but we had a legal obligation to obtain consent and we are only able to transfer data we have consent to transfer, hence the removal of all users who did not consent.
If you are lucky you can find a cached copy of threads/posts online; for example (from a user whose account was deleted). I have no idea how long this may work though since they might request that Google purge the cached pages (even the Wayback Machine isn't failsafe).
This is annoying. My email account is idk how many years old (15 years? 20 yrs?)
I use it for registration processes but also getting alot of spam, I dont check every single email - and obviously a large amount of users dont aswell.
Havent you noticed the lack of feedback from your sent emails? I even wonder if you actually cared about it?
Because if you had just sent messages through the forum (and if it's just asking the user to check their email -> including their spam folders, cuz mails tend to go into spam sometimes), then ACTIVE USERS actually had gotten the message.
Also I still don't get what has been actually done now..
What I see is, we lost our usernames (which I could recover somehow) and all our posts (incl. complete threads) have been deleted.
Now I really don't get it.. I can log in, I can change back my username. Now it is done? Or will i be "deleted" again?
It feels like deleted but not fully deleted and I am like "?????"
A bug has been resolved that prevented deleted users from reclaiming their nickname. For users who have been deleted and wish to continue using the forum please do the following:
1. Logout of your Minecraft Forum account
2. Log back in using your Twitch account
3. Navigate to My Account
4. Reclaim your nickname using the form at the bottom
I will provide clarity in the coming days around whether or not we will be able to restore posts upon request. Please be patient as we investigate this option.

The consent opt-in rate was monitored across all of our websites, we did not identify any wide scale issue with users being unable to opt-in or receive notice, many users opted in. There are some users who have not read our emails and run software that prevents page elements for functioning as intended, and unfortunately given our constraints there was nothing we were able to do to reach those users.
The situation as it stands at the moment is:
1. Your private information has been permanently deleted and cannot be recovered
2. Your public content (such as threads, posts) have been deleted but could potentially be recovered
3. A deleted user can reclaim their nickname by going to My Account and entering it in the form at the bottom
We are working to determine our next steps in helping members recover their public content but please be advised that the likelihood we are able to offer full recovery is very slim. I will make an announcement in this thread once we know more about the next steps.
I'm less worried about my personal content, but rather about big information loss, when I see threads like the one shown in the attachment, deleted.
The whole process is very confusing, but if the account is safe now, then fine. It wasn't clear to me, if it would get fully deleted during the next hours/days.
Adblock (you're referring to) is sadly nowadays pretty much necessary for many users, as many websites run very aggressive advertisement incl. malware in them.
Again, I can only speak for myself, but when a website states they don't run these kind of ads and ask for adding the exception to adblock, I usually do that.
Anyway, people browsing with active Adblock is nothing uncommon nowadays. I still don't quite understand why you didn't send private messages, as the notification would arrive the user then even with active Adblock.
As for the EU law (this goes to anyone being annoyed by the consequences), those are not to blame.
In fact the law was necessary.
Simple example (it goes a littlebit offtopic here, but I think it's important) There was once a popular website "LiveMocha", where people would gather and learn languages together. Not sure how many but I think it had millions of registrated accounts. One day Rosetta Stone bought the website. Along with many unfullfilled promises they used the email adresses from the registrated users to spam them with their advertisement for their overpriced RS software.
I think you know where this leads to..
It's exactly what the law is preventing now.
Back to topic.. I know it's late now, but temporary deactivating (not deleting) concerning accounts + hiding (not deleting) concerning posts had avoided alot of this mess :x
Recently, I have seen a lot of usernames change from actual usernames to "User1234567". In fact, many usernames are changing about every minute.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
Update on January 18th: my comments in this thread are out of date, please refer to the following announcement for up to date information: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/forums/forum-discussion-info/2944101-regarding-disappearing-threads-posts-and-users

Exactly this, I havent received a single email about this issue. And now I lost my 7+ years username and profile because of this. Smh

The links don't work anymore. Does that mean that all my threads are lost forever?
Edit: this information is incorrect, please disregard the contents of my post.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
That's great! Here are the threads I'd like to get restored: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding-java-edition/minecraft-mods/2775366-wild-mobs-new-and-unique-mobs-in-the-style-of and https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding-java-edition/minecraft-mods/2923835-end-teleporters-a-balanced-and-quick-way-to-travel. Also is it possible to change my username back to Markus1002?

Also, what about the pinned threads like small suggestions that got deleted?
