I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
ummm... what about the seeds sections for other platforms (Xbox 360, PS4, etc.) because I don't see any sections on that, and it was never mentioned here.
You can find the Seeds forum for all Minecraft: Editions at the bottom of the Minecraft Editions category, here (Minecraft Editions > Minecraft Editions: Seeds).
Why do these sections need the suffix;
"Mapping and Modding: Java Edition"
"Servers: Java Edition"
There cannot be discussion of maps, modding, or servers for the bedrock editions, so why do they need to be qualified?
[/indent]
There are servers on Minecraft (Bedrock). There are maps ("worlds") and mods ("addons") on Minecraft (Bedrock). For the sake of clarity and consistency across the forum, the edition for each category has been (or will be) qualified.
There are currently 3 official servers, however, Microsoft plan to onboard more in future. Addons are not mods in the strictest sense but colloquially they are, and given that in the Minecraft ecosystem it has been established that game modifications are "mods" it's probable players will refer to addons as mods so any clarity we can provide will be beneficial.
I completely disagree, but I see no point in trying to discuss it further. I've tried, but you clearly have your own opinions, and you are not listening to the people actually using the forum.
"For the sake of clarity and consistency" gave me a good laugh, because the current structuring is utterly inconsistent and unclear.
Minecraft on Mobile and Windows 10 still has unofficial servers that can be added additionally to the three Featured servers that can be accessed by all Minecraft systems currently.
Mobile/Windows 10 servers that you can access are not the same servers that you can access from the Java Edition.
Minecraft Mobile is and has been able to modify their game, though restrictively. Modding in terms of PC/Java and ios/android is different and cannot be discussed or shared the same way. Maps are the same, as from what I was aware since you need to convert the world to become playable on Windows 10/Android/ios devices.
Due to Microsoft's, and soon Nintendo's, policy modifications to the games, system, or files has never been allowed. Add-ons are the official term for the content that is available on the Marketplace. Members will be able to submit their "mods" to Microsoft to be added to the marketplace but members will still not be allowed to share mods directly with each other.
When the term "non-Minecraft" is being used no one here is implying that you are not playing a version of Minecraft. This term is only used to clarify which versions of Minecraft that are being discussed in terms of official names.
Minecraft as a game is currently playable on these devices/versions as followed:
PC
Mac
Linus
Xbox One
Android
IOS
VR
Windows 10
Windows Phone
Kindle Fire
Fire TV
Apple TV
Xbox 360
Ps3
Ps4
PsVita
WiiU
Switch
3DS
Rasberry PI
Education
Story Mode
This is a pretty long list and if you alone just said "Minecraft" to someone who has not been in the community long the name will simply apply to any of them.
Minecraft: Java Edition and it's subcategories cover most, if not all aspects for the Java Edition of the game that is not cross-compatible with any other version of Minecraft. This version covers the Java client that is playable on PC/Mac/Linux systems.
Minecraft and it's subcategories cover the versions for Pocket Edition, Windows 10 Edition, Gear VR Edition, Apple TV Edition, Fire TV Edition, and Xbox One Edition
Minecraft: Editions and it's subcategories cover Xbox One (still being adjusted), Xbox 360, Ps4, Ps3, PsVita, WiiU, Switch, Minigames, 3DS, Story Mode, Pi, and Education.
Switch Edition will change when it joins the Minecraft family.
Minecraft 3DS is a standalone single player version of the game.
Minecraft: Story Mode is a standalone adventure that does not play the same as traditional Minecraft does.
Rasberry PI was a version to help promote interest in programming.
Education Edition is not the standard version of Minecraft and is intended for educational uses to promote learning.
Pocket Edition will be adjusted and some things will be moved into the Minecraft section to alleviate confusion as we still try to figure out how to approach Mods and Servers.
Known issues that we are working on resolving: PE/Xbox One sections. If there are any other inconsistencies that do not involve how Mojang has chosen to begin addressing versions of the game please let us know. We do not want to intentionally confuse members.
What concerns me about the renaming of the "Minecraft" software title (product) is my rights to ownership of the software client which I purchased from Mojang's website.
The Mojang website says I bought "Minecraft" and have a "Redeem code" to the Windows 10 Edition, which I used.
Before the product name change I believe customers had no-charge rights to new versions of "Minecraft". Because its name is changed to now include "Java Edition" does that legally justify future charging of said new versions for the "Java Edition", a legally differently named product?
I generally trust Microsoft. When a product is renamed by the rights-holder (Microsoft) there should be a license addendum which only clarifies that the rights of the originally named product extend to the newly named (same) product, versioning or legal-mumbo-jumbo-trickery naming schemes such as using the word "Edition", as in "Java Edition", irregardless.
For me, my rights to the originally named "Minecraft" client where NOT primarily for content such as skins, block and item textures, sound, music and the like but to the ->open-platform (i.e phones, pcs, console, etc)<-java languaged product, its configurability and the allowance of removing its code-signature to allow for modifications by users. The product (license) I bought is something that allowed customers to add or remove functionality. As a side note another reason I loved Minecraft was that its minimalistic design philosophy worked well with computers that were already old by the time Minecraft 1.4.7 was rolled out, with Windows XP, that my family used years ago, and still use, for even older games.
While I love the non-Java Minecraft editions, previously known as the PE Edition, its developer controlled functionality, while welcomed in its own product, is something I do not wish to eliminate or diminish the product I originally purchased from Mojang.
Microsoft may say "No worries about all that.". But change often generates distrust, especially unnecessary change. While I can roll with it I expect a reassurances from Microsoft assuring long-time-loyal-Minecraft-product purchasers/users that the Minecraft java client will be accessible and easy to find and use by them. So far few problems.
By the way, since the restructuring of minecraftforum.net website where I've made topic reply posts, I have had a hard time finding my forum-topic replies through search or Google. This is a recent issue. It seems now I have to read many old topics, reply after reply until I find my replies.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience! Can you clarify what you mean by having a hard time -- are the links to the forum returning errors, or are the results just not there? Any information you can provide would be a great help towards tracking down any issues Thank you!
Please define modded and unmodified. For example, if one uses Pan's Harvest, and Forge, is that considered modded? I have no idea!
If you add mods (such as Pam's Harvestcraft or use Forge) you are playing modded. If you play Minecraft and do not install additional things to play Java Minecraft you are playing unmodified.
Further to the question above about seeds, can we have some edition-specific tags please, now that all the seeds are in a single sub-forum? If I'm looking for a seed which works well on my Xbox 360, I don't want to get my hopes up for a "4 mansion, 2 monument, all biomes world" if it only has all of those features when expanded to a world size larger than Classic. It would be good to be able to filter for seeds that are playable on Classic sized worlds. Tags either by edition or by world size would be helpful in the seeds subforum. Thanks.

Hi, I'm Augur and I'm from New Zealand (NZ). Just call me "Augur". I'm an older person playing Minecraft Xbox 360 Legacy Console Edition without Xbox Gold (no online gaming, sorry), so please don't hate on the old. 😄
Yeah, of course, I have (or at least, I think so...).
As I said, I spoke about a suggestion thread.
In fact, I think about a general suggestion on the game...If I were to make one, where should I put it ?
I do NOT know so well MC Editions apart from MC:JE, but I would probably like (maybe not now, I need to think more about it, to explain it carefully and plainly) to suggest (even if it will probably not be implemented) something that I wish to be implemented on all MC versions.
But, anyways, my question is a more general one and I wanted to know where to post it if I had something to tell regarding all versions.
Nota Bene : Sorry if my english isn't perfect, it is not my native language...
So, in the case that what I want to say isn't obvious, let me know it...
BTW, What a quick answer !
The Suggestions forum for any Edition is not visited by Mojang, it's a place for you to discuss your ideas with other players, but it's not a place for you to have an impact on the game itself. Therefore, you should post your thread in the category related to the version you play, then you can discuss that with people who are familiar with the game you play. Minecraft can be quite different across the various platforms/editions, so an idea you have based on your experience with Java Edition may not apply to other editions.
I realize this thread is somewhat old but it seemed to be the appropriate place to ask. Since 'Minecraft' has been out for a little while now we are still getting a number of people posting in the 'Minecraft' forum when what they really want is Minecraft: Java. I know, to some extent, this will happen no matter what but it may be lessened if beside the title 'Minecraft' there was mention that it is the section for 'Bedrock/Better Together' (perhaps in parenthesis)?
Yes, I know the official name of what I am playing on my Xbox is simply 'Minecraft' but I don't think the general public has caught on to this. No, I'm not trying to argues the merits of the current naming system Mojang/Microsoft have come up with.
To sum up: can the 'Minecraft' section of the forum be renamed to something a little more specific and descriptive such as, 'Minecraft (Bedrock/Better Together)?
I was originally very committed to the idea of following Mojang's naming scheme, as webrosc mentioned, but given even Mojang themselves are now using the "Bedrock" language I'm starting to think maybe we should too, because the current name scheme is so confusing. This is 100% my fault, as a number of staff members felt that we should use Bedrock in the name, but I was committed to ensuring parity with Mojang... not realising that if we were finding referring to the game to be difficult, Mojang would be too.

I propose to use the name "Minecraft (Bedrock)" instead of "Minecraft". First, this name is used by Mojang and Microsoft. Second, this name can prevent confusions.
Other proposals include "Bedrock edition", "Bedrock version", "Bedrock Engine", and "Bedrock codebase", which all of these are used by Mojang. You can see this article's first section for more information of this version. The use of "Bedrock edition" can keep consistency with other editions.
"Minecraft (Bedrock)" seems to be the most recommended one to replace "Minecraft" instead. Though you can discuss at the forum team.

Yes. They need a reality check. And make them do it, in the same room, all at the same time, with Xbox and Microsoft, and developers! They need to consistent terminology and language!
