"Humans... for a long time we thought that we were not alone, that there was something greater than ourselves, we were wrong, there aren't any aliens more advanced than we are. Turns out we are the most advanced life here, but there is still life out there. Primitive worlds with primitive peoples, knowing no less than pottery. The team of biologists and sociologists have come together to make this experiment possible, and while some may protest this experiment is unethical, we chose to keep going with the project and many beneficiaries have provided us with large amounts of funding for this project. Instead of communicating with these primitive peoples and sharing our vast knowledge with them, we have instead decided to place them in a controlled environment in which they have to work together or annihilate one another to survive." -Matthew Corgan, lead director of Experiment 4X, during the experiment's press release.
Welcome to Experiment 4X, humans in the distant future believe that they are the only intelligent species in the galaxy. Where in about 30,000 planets ended up having life, and about one in 70 million had sentient life, all of which were primitive. The world chosen for the experiment was planet 4X – 78G2. The planet has an optimal atmosphere and dense forestry as well as various species of fauna, There is also a desert, and of course large bodies of saltwater with various pockets of freshwater. The planet is slightly larger than Earth and contains a similar atmosphere, with the star about the same size as Sol.
[map created in Sid Meier's Civilization V world builder]
As a player, you will design a race to be placed upon the plant will also control the actions of the said race and help them prosper into civilization. Along the way, they will find others, these other races will be the races created by other players. Ever so often the humans observing them will interfere, they may provide ideas, weaponry, so-called "magical items", and various other things.
In the game:
When in the game, you will start with a population of 10,000. From there, your race will need to accept their new surroundings and begin building a village. You will need to harvest resources first before you start building. When you are building, you may discover new things and want to learn more about them by researching them. All of these things take time to accomplish, so put the amount of turns(months) you find appropriate to do such an action. Traveling also takes a month per hex.

Race Name: Sceletae
Biology:
The Sceletae are insect-like humanoid creatures with a hard exoskeleton. They have spines along the centre of their backs and on the shoulders and elbows. They have two legs as well as four arms. They possess an internal skeleton as well as an exoskeleton because they come from a planet with high gravity. Their colouring is varying shades of a light brown to a sort of dark orange, with the males being brown and the females being orange in colour. Their feet are shaped like a bird's, with three longer toes at the front and a short one at the back which come to a small pad in the centre. Their hands possess four fingers, ending in claws at the ends.
The Sceletae possess a set of two large, black eyes. The tops of their heads have short spikes used to drive off aerial predators. Along the sides of their heads are small holes used for breathing and detecting scents. Their ears are similar, they are just holes in the sides of their heads. Their mouth consists of a pair of mandibles which draw food towards a mouth of teeth used for grinding. They communicate using a series of clicks and harsh screeches. Should one be taught a new language, their voice is somewhat high pitched with a scratchy quality to it.
On average an adult Sceletae is about 1.5 metres tall. Their life cycle starts with an egg with a hard shell. They develop quickly, taking about 12 weeks to hatch. When they do hatch Sceletae do not possess their bony plates, which grow in about age 8. Without the bony plates, the young are covered in a soft scaly skin. The plates, when they first grow in, are flexible with a sort of rubber texture. When approached the young emit an awful screeching noise to drive of predators, which seldom works. Fortunately it alerts other Sceletae to the threat which can then help the young. They reach maturity at age 16 which coincides with the plates hardening and the spines growing. It takes about two years for the spines to finish growing. Sceletae usually live to about the age of 70 with the oldest living to the age of 78.
Physiology:
The Sceletae's main defence against predators is speed followed by defence. They are quick and can sustain such speeds for a considerable length of time. Should they be caught by a predator they must relay on the bony plates covering their bodies. They are rather weak when it comes to strength, they are built more for escape rather than to fight.
Sceletae possess excellent hearing, being able to hear predators from up to 2 kilometres away. Their eyesight though is rather lacking, they can only sense red and green colours with the rest of the world appearing a grey colour. Despite this they have fairly good night vision, seeing about half as well at night as they can in the dayTheir sense of smell is fairly average as well as their sense of taste. Through their bony plates they can sense texture with some difficulty.
The Sceletae have a nitrogen based physiology, they need to breathe nitrogen like humans need to breathe oxygen. They cannot hold their breath for very long and they make poor swimmers. They are herbivores, using their mandibles for tearing the fibrous plants of their home world. They do not need to drink water very often, they usually absorb it from their food.
Psychology:
The Sceletae are rather timid, they are prone to rejecting new things as if it would kill them. As far as they are concerned it may. This leads to a very superstitious society which is lead by a shaman or oracle which is usually the oldest Sceletae in the village. Their religion is based upon spirits, with the creator spirit being their main deity. They rely on the shaman to 'talk' to the spirits to decide what they want the society to do next. Despite their timid nature, a cornered Sceletae will attack ferociously. They seem to have a good capacity for knowledge, assuming the shaman doesn't reject the knowledge they have gained.
Their society does not possess a class system, with the only Sceletae receiving special treatment being the ruling shaman. It often falls upon the entire village when it comes to raising the young. The young will often be confined to a section of the village and two or three adults will watch over them. The greatest crime in the Sceletae society is heresy, and calling someone a 'heretic' or a 'ghoul' is the greatest insult to a Sceletae.
Every third day, for half an hour, all Sceletae will stop what they are doing and pray to the spirits. This is often accompanied with an intricate hand gesture to ward off evil spirits. When a Sceletae dies, its body is placed in the centre of the village for one day before being burnt and the ashes scattered around the village. Whenever a Sceletae passes by the dead body, they perform the hand gesture to ward off evil three times before moving on. They believe that this hand gesture convinces the deceased to protect the village and that scattering the ashes around the village stops evil spirits from taking the deceased's spirit away. The family of the deceased go into mourning. When in mourning they are excused from work and remain with the deceased's body all day. After the ashes have been scattered, the family remains in mourning for the next four days.
The Sceletae wear garments made of woven grass and a fibrous material similar to cotton. The garments are often robe-like and cover from the neck to the knees. When in mourning they wear hoods over their heads and a sort of ceremonial necklace. The necklace is made of clay with an imprint of a claw, they believe that this prevents the deceased from trying to take their family with them to the land of the dead. The shaman wears three of these necklaces in order to protect his or herself from the spirits.
Ecology:
The Sceletae live in arid savanna, usually near the equator. They usually build their villages near large patches of grass, which is used for many things in their culture. They use clay a lot too, however if it cannot be found they make a sort of earthenware out of fired mud.
Their villages consist of a central square with rows of huts lining the paths that emanate from the square. Outside this is usually some walls, often made from mud brick. The houses are also made of mud brick with a roof made of woven grass coated in mud. Outside the walls is usually some form of agriculture, often grass farms and farms that grow food.
Accepted with applause, while it is a little intimidating, I appreciate your hard work, I hope others will join us so the effort isn't put to waste.
My only question is the savanna on the east or west continent?

I will look at joining, I haven't really done this kind of thing before though, and Willowisp your app did kinda set me off a bit, I don't think I could write a app that long.
It's fine, zappy, as long as I have a paragraph in each category you'll be fine, but if you really get into the creation you will surely get on willow's level.

You mind if I create a zerg-ish race?
To elaborate, that would be a race that consumes the genetic material of other races to fuel it's own biology. Their would be a strain of each of these creatures for every other race they encountered.

Not today.
If you are a citizen of the United States, or anyone who is involved in any way with the United States, I urge you to watch this video. Your government has a serious problem.
That depends, it can't be Zerg in the sense that they are a bloodthirsty horde of animals, that wouldn't make sense in terms of story, I will however accept a race similar to the Kroot (see "shaping"), whom are clearly sentient beings

The Stagnoids are a Mammalian/Reptilian semi-humanoid Quadrupeds that possess 12 limbs. They have two sets of arms, two sets of legs, two tails, and a pair of undeveloped wings. They possess an inner skeleton as well as a pseudo exoskeleton directly below the skin due to an unpredictable gravity on their home planet. Their coloring can vary greatly, from white to black on the fur, and anything between navy blue and crimson on the scales. They posses doglike mouths with small holes at the end that act like a nose, while also possessing no teeth. Instead, they have special zigzags on the sides of his beak to act as teeth, and not chip off. They possess 4 fingers and have an undeveloped thumb, and the equivalent of built in boots, as their feet are covered in a thick layer of scales and fur, looking like boots, and lacking toes, Instead, they run by having elastic scales there, allowing movement.
They possess three, multicolored eyes, on the surface at least. On the inside of their skull, their are several eyeballs lining up to each of these three outer eyeballs, providing telescopic vision, along with several other unique vision based abilities. They also have holes in the sides of their heads acting as ear, They communicate via loud grunts and grinding sounds. They occasionally have small ridges running down their curved spines, and have curved horns sticking out the sides of their skulls.
Stagnoids are born after 3 months, hatching out of eggs, inside the mother. The eggs only grow in a certain environment, which the stomach provides, so after laying a batch of eggs, the mother swallows them. After about ten weeks, the eggs hatch inside her, and her body stops feeding them through a tube, then they just eat whatever the mom eats, leaving her malnourished. After another six weeks, the mother violently regurgitates the babies, and they feed on the throw up. At birth, they resemble the equivalent of about 1' tall, 2' long slug dogs, having nothing but a transparent layer of bone between them and their muscles. After another 9 weeks, they start to be covered in scales, and after another 30 weeks, they finish developing scales. Three weeks after that, they start to grow a tail, and a week after that, is covered in scale. A month later, the tail forks gradually splitting deeper and deeper before becoming two distinct tails. Two weeks before the tails finish splitting, they start to grow their second sets of arms and legs, and two months after that, they finish growing. Simply a week after that, the upper half of their body starts to curve upward and after 10 weeks, it finishes curving the full way, resembling a multi armed centaur. Now, they're roughly a meter tall and it's time to go into the teenage years. Now they start growing patches of fur, and after around 11 months, they finish. Then they start growing long claws and a curved beak, which takes around a month. Now, they start growing their third eye, which normally takes about 6 months to finish developing. Finally, they start to grow their undeveloped wings, and that takes a long time, around 2 years, and 6 weeks. Now they're roughly five, and are done growing body parts.
Now, it's time for them to start developing these body parts. Now that the third eye is in place it's time for them to start developing their vision, which develops gradually over their lives. When they turn six, they start developing the eyes behind their head. By fifteen this is done and by the age of Eighteen they have obtained heat vision. After 21 their eyesight just gradually gets better and expands in terms of distance.Besides eyesight, they also develop in size and muscle. Over the years they gradually get taller and stronger until they reach their impressive height of 7-8 ft!
Physiology:
Stagnoids don't really run that well, and they're much too heavy to swim. Their wings aren't developed to the point of flight and are simply for scaring off aerial attackers. Really, the stagnoids are just brutes, and can't really move that well. I mean sure they can catch prey but they can't run anywhere past 15 mph. They are meant to hit not to run, and are happy that way.
As stated above, stagnoid eyesight is far more advanced then any of their other senses, and I mean really! Their hearing is so bad they occasionally don't realize they're being spoke too, which is why they speak so loudly. They can't smell very well, and generally can just barely pick up prey scent. They can't even taste! They feel roughly as much as a human does.
Stagnoids have a Carbon Dioxide based physiology, and as such can't inhale other gases, otherwise they die! They don't drink water, and instead only drink water at birth, and then the Carbon Dioxide is constantly pumped through the blood. What they drink in substitution for water is the blood of a comrade. Not like killing them, but just nipping them. They're purely carnivores, and don't know vegetables are edible.
Psychology:
Stagnoids are basically a species of jocks. They believe themselves to be the best there is, and enjoy flaunting their accomplishments. They thrive on war, and even have their religion based on wars. They are positively ruthless in combat, and their grudges have killed entire clans. They have a form of Adrenaline that pumps through them the moment they taste blood of a different species, which enhances them.
Their creation myth revolves around how long ago their were two species that lived in constant combat. One day, every single member of both races killed each other in brutal combat and from the mass of blood, they were born. It's said that all the souls of each race formed the two original gods, R'zerftī and Z'zarthyn. These gods shaped the blood into the Stagnoids, R'zerftī made their bodies while Z'zarthyn made their eyes and personalities. It's said that these gods guided them to war with more species, and that each species extincted by them forms a new deity.
Every night, before drifting into sleep, the Stagnoids pray to the nearby souls that they won't die tomorrow, they call the ritual E'versta'tum. It's believed that by asking the nearby spirits will channel their divine god to defend you, weirdly. These prayers have a special version, where the Priest summons the spirits in the fires and talks to them once every Blood Moon. This Priest generally is so old he has "Foresight"which gives him a high social standing.
Speaking of social standing, The social ranking is similar to a wolf pack, with the leader known as Alpha, his wife the Beta, and so on. Their are several special classes that have special parts in the way life works, so they receive special standing. Killing someone of high social standing grants you there ranking, but it can be willingly given. Naturally, the Alpha can strip any lower class of their Rank.
Ecology:
The Stagnoids live in mountains that stand high above swampy marshes, usually to the North. They usually build houses in Caves, and the higher your rank the nicer your house. They like using rocks and sometimes make totems or pillars of worship from them. On there world there are no chemicals excluding Carbon Monoxide so when they inhale any other gas it does severe damage to them, this basically provides their ultimate weakness so.....
Well that is... Interesting.... However, I'm going to say, get rid of the HD vision, your species aren't flying creatures, so they wouldn't need it, as well as the other crazy vision arrays, otherwise, accepted
Also you are thinking of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide is motor exhaust

Nope, they just have a really f*cked up world! Also, they're deco rational wings with the possibility of evolving into fullblown ones too so, and sure I'll get rid of HD vision!
If that is the case, such a creature wouldn't be able to be on this planet, this is a nitrogen-oxygen rich atmosphere like earth's.

I don't think functional wings will be possible if they are as big as you described, if you are going to go for it, you are going to have to go through a LOT of evolution
So yeah, X-ray vision is not only impossible, but overpowered, I'll let you keep thermal.

Race Name:Stagnoids
Biology:
Other:
None.
Also you are thinking of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide is motor exhaust
