Hello and welcome to this rather unconventional RP, which is to take place in England during the early 1890s. Some fantastical liberties will be taken, sure, but attempt to keep things grounded in reality. There is magic, but don't count on it saving you from being shot through the eye with a Webley. Folks are turning up dead in Whitechapel, a series of strange, seemingly unlinked events are occurring near the farms to the far northwest, and people who are usually level-headed claim to have seen impossible things a circularly decreasing distance from the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum.
You will be able to choose between a large number of general classes and specify skills of your own.
Rules.
- Do not void/ignore other peoples' RP. I will void it if it is unacceptable.
- Do not use OOC knowledge as IC knowledge; this means if your character is stupid, but you understand complex physics, do not make your character understand complex physics.
- Do not make random moves. If I see that a move is random and call you on it, feel free to PM me the basis for it, or other reason why I should not consider it random.
- Understand that magic will not always work, and will not be reliable when it does. Try speaking in proper Latin to better use magic.
- Do not make moves which go against your alignment/biography. If someone is a psychopathic man-child, he probably shouldn't be helping old women across the street.
- Treat things realistically. If someone is pointing a gun at you, don't casually reach into your jacket, or start doing jumping jacks or something.
Classes
Rich ******* - A rich person. Quite well educated, and could be semi-psychic or have basic knowledge of spells. Not to mention, they have quite some influence in the area, so they could easily bribe people, or ask for a favor from an old friend in a high place. Not skilled in physical combat.
Police Officer - A police officer. One can arrest people if they are doing something illegal, or are poor. Also, since it's the 1890s, they are allowed to carry a firearm. They are probably educated, if poorly, and capable at fighting. Magic is not their strong suit.
Soldier (Off duty) - A soldier, probably a veteran of the Anglo-Zulu war. Very skilled in physical combat, and probably equipped with a dress uniform and a ceremonial saber. If of a high rank, one could have a service revolver as well. If anything... significant happens, they could be called into active duty.
Thief - A thief. Probably not particularly useful, but is good at sneaking about and stealing things. Questionably capable at magic, not very good at physical combat, but quite good at stealth. Police officers have a beef with them, mostly because they're thieves, you nincompoop.
Private Detective - Think Holmes, but less bullcrap. Not very good at fighting, but great at tracking and investigating things. Probably well educated, and with some understanding of magic.
Scientist - Think Rich *******, but with much more knowledge than wealth (universities are expensive). They might just be the smartest of the classes, but refuse to accept the existence of magic, and therefore cannot use it at all. Slightly less skilled in physical combat than the average person. [Via Gamedude602]
Doctor - One of the extremely incompetent limbhackers of the time, a doctor will be able to save a life in a pinch, but often with brutally ineffective means. Much of what they do could be perceived as magic, but a lot of it is just silly madness to keep the patient confused enough not to panic. Rather bad at fighting.
If you have any class preferences which are not on this post, then please, tell me and I will or won't approve them depending on how reasonable they are, how well they fit in, and how well I'm feeling at the moment.

I will start the IC thread once I approve enough characters.
A few that come to mind are Street Urchin (could just be a new name for Thief), Beggar, Eccentric Entrpreneur, and I believe this was about the time Einstein started turning science on its head, so perhaps some kind of scientist as well.

Well then, I'll make an application for the one I care the most about.

Name: Norman
Gender: Male
Class: Scientist
Physical Description: A few inches taller than the average individual, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Brief Biography: A recent graduate from Oxford University. As he wasn't "old money," the tuition nearly left him penniless. But this has not phased him, as being a scientist was his childhood dream.((should I expand more on this?))

Not necessarily, but add a surname. Also, bring friends.

I don't know sled teams but I do know I put my dog on an electric treadmill once and dangled a chicken leg. Treadmill puppy ensued.

New class: doctor. A doctor can heal wounds using a combination of magic and tools. While extremely weak in combat can defend self if needed.
Can use magic. But only for healing and can only use a little at that.

That's three mass invasions within the same bloody month! I mean, seriously! The UDTU is attacking now, Blue has a sleeper attack coming soon, and now an invasion by space pirates? What is this, Russia if every american-made FPS happened at once?! - MagicallyDwarven
lived for hundreds of years since the 4 century and have lived as regular citizens keeping themselves alive using potions and the mythical "Philosopher's stone" (just examples of how they could have lived that long) and for the sake of this RP, they must keep themselves alive by sapping the life force from other individuals by casting a certain spell. this class uses magic based on the earth, so they can only call upon plants, animals, and certain chemicals. they will try to stay away from crowds as to avoid being detected, and so are very stealthy (but not as stealthy as thieves). they are not good at physical combat, and they aren't very good orators, so they aren't very good liers.
Name Aria belmont
Gender female
Class doctor
Physical description. Tall long brown hair. Thin slender.
Brief bio. Grew up wanting to help people and as a doctor does everything in her way to help people.

Approved if you add a bit more depth to her background. She's a bit... one-sided now. Also, medical schools were extremely sexist at the time, and she would have had a lot of trouble becoming a true doctor. Expand on that.
I'd say that now's a good time we bring in lawman.
Name: Mortimer Rodswin
Gender: Male
Class: Police Officer
Physical Description: a somewhat lanky fellow with an eternally serious face, well kept black hair hidden mainly by his hat, as well as large sideburns that go down right to his chin.
Brief Biography: War is generally a tough thing on people, but for Mortimer his years with the badge have been like a war campaign. After all his time, he's now a tough and bitterly serious enforcer of the law who getting to see much alternate emotion from rather hard.
Here's a class suggestion:
Berserker - Think Soldier, but a bit stronger and reckless. When he recieves high damage, he enters Berserk Mode, his physical damage dramatically increases, but leaves him almost defenseless. His knowledge is below average.
