Sorry to say this, but I have a few complaints about the signup process to these forums.
Here's a list of the things I'm not too happy about:
My gmail email address would not be accepted as an address for this account. The error message said it was already in the system, so I went to the forgot password page and entered my email address thinking I had already created an account. The forgot password page said that it had never heard of my email address. >.<
When I tried entering the username: threeflashes into the username box on the signup form, it said the username was already taken. Fair enough. I tried about 7 different combinations and the system wouldn't budge. I tried a stupid combination of numbers and letters that no one could possibly pick and it STILL would not budge. After reloading the page and trying fifty times, I finally got this username even though five minutes earlier the system said it was taken. >.<
I may be completely wrong and all, but: Nice going guys!
Anti-spam measures are never fool-proof. They're intended to make things inconvenient for advertisers and to keep the casual spam accounts low in number. If we made them too stringent, it would inhibit the ability for normal members to register.
Unfortunately, when we're hit with a dedicated tool who either has a vendetta against the forums or is just having a grand-old time, there isn't a lot that can be done from our level to stop him. We can really only clean up his mess. Curse, Alexia in particular, has been doing a lot more to prevent these attacks, but it does require constant adjustment to counter the spam attacks, so it's still going to happen as long as the spammers are dedicated on being a thorn in our side. Welcome to the internets.
