No actually you didn't upgrade anything. What you did was uninstall Java and install something completely different. Maybe you saw the "XP" part and assumed it was for Windows XP. What you downloaded is a package intended for Java developers who want an XPath library. The link below is Oracle's portal for consumer downloads of Java.
You can have XP change the "theme" into classic mode and it will look like Win95 to...Win 2003 I guess?
