Has anyone ever been on a rowing boat? If you have, you know that they don't break if you crash into the ground in walking speed. Boats in Minecraft however, break so easily that i'm beginning to think that they should be made out of paper instead of wood. If they are meant to be break this easily, then Mojang should add a way to reinforce the boats. Like make them out of actual logs for example. I'm currently working on an EATS road and it's incredibly hard because the boat keeps breaking, but it's not always. Sometimes it goes good for a couple times, and BAM! It's broken.
Thanks for reading, feel free to tell your opinion on this :smile.gif:
If Mojang wants us so hard to constantly re-craft our boats, maybe would be better if it had a limited durability (like tools or armor).
Let's say 4 "uses", or "points". Everytime we hit our boat into something at 'normal sailing speed', it loses one of it's uses/points. This means that after four collisions we should have to re-craft it.
Now one could imagine some way of repairing the boat, the same as we do to our tools/armor.
I use an invincible boats plugin because I get tired of going through the waterpaths I've made before as well as things like water courses and slides when the boat breaks nonstop.
chillin in the ocean far from base waiting for daybreak. oh, hi there Mr. squid! WTF! Mr. squid bumps my boat and busts it up. what, its a mini-kraken or something?
Boats are very difficult to use in swamps, due to lily pad collisions being destructive. When a boat runs into a lily pad in real life, what do you think happens?
Also, back in Beta 1.9 when I was boating I ran into a pig taking a swim - Boat exploded and I instantly died and lost most of my inventory to the bottom of the ocean. Worst of all the pig took no damage. I don't know if this still occurs, but it is truly horrible to have something like that happen to you.

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
I agree it needs to be much stronger. Also sometimes it can crash into a block at high speeds and still survive and other times you just clip a block and it breaks. Maybe they could add an iron boat that doesn't break by crashing, only by punching and it drops an iron boat.

Boats in real life are not held together with implied magic and a liberal application of faith. Lily pads in real life would have a hell of a hard time supporting an adults body weight without any deformation. Lily pads in real life move around in the water. Boats in real life have an actual steering mechanism.
I'm not arguing that boats are fine but I hate the "real life" arguments being applied to Minecraft. Minecraft <> Real life.

Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
We need a boat, simple enough to mimic the boats we use.
But you should be able to rudder a direction, and then leave it asail, as in walk away from the navigation wheel.
There should be a small crafting bench/box near the center of the main deck.
As I notice rain would clog up my boat, I would like half of my deck to be covered, mostly where I am steering, much like an old wooden river boat.
In SMP a simple constructed river boat would house 1-4 players, seating would be known as the Rowers bench and would greatly increase speeds for ocean faring.
If you want to get REAL in depth, any damage to the boat, means a leak in the hull, a leak in the hull means you need to bail out with buckets, much like you bail out areas on the mainland, take the empty bucket to the source of the water, and remove it, then a patch of a wooden plank and a slime ball in order to assure that leak has stopped.
Crafting such a boat is left to the community to gather the details, I suppose wooden logs would be used for the hull, sticks and planks for the roofing, benching, oars, rudder. Slime might be a huge component to making the craft as it should not be easy to obtain.
I can only hope that this idea sparks some kindling underneath the developers butts, because for the millions we have invested into Moyang, we should have at least one more developer on board the project, big companies use hundreds to thousands of people, making great epic worthwhile games, and I believe Minecraft is worthy of this kind of attention!

The steering is also worse than a public toilet.

Iron boats please.

oh yes, why don't we reconstruct world generation just for boats...
this is backwards thinking.
