Hi so I know that the snapshot converted the world to have a higher height limit, but I was wondering, does it also change so I can generate rainforests in my pre snapshot world? Just wondering because I've been trying to change the generator type to the newest one for awhile using a program but haven't been able to successfully do it and was hoping that this would complete the task for me. Any ideas if it does?
Best evidence for this is, find out for yourself. There is a group that says new biomes don't generate on new chunks in older worlds. I can say that I have found jungle biome on an old world, but I did generate that map back when Beta was young. I have heard that the no-new biome thing is specific to recent versions, Beta 1.8 to Release 1.0.
I haven't tried that because I don't record what version I generated my list of maps. I only know what I made from the beginning, Beta 1.1 to 1.3, because I did zip those.
So. The best strategy is to just pull up an old map, hope the conversion doesn't crash, and go exploring. It may be good to find an old map you know you didn't do any extensive exploring on, otherwise you got a lot of exploring to do.
Happy trails!

Apparently with the new map data format for higher height, jungles do form in new chunks of earlier worlds. While I did not find any jungle on a 1.1 server map in 12w06a, when I went roaming farther in 12w07 I did find a jungle, with natural ocelots. A few of the jungle trees at the edge of a snowy (spruce or pine?) biome were slightly more spruce colored with snow on them, but it seemed to be a smooth biome transition (not abrupt cutoff).
I hear that there is a cave issue (no caves) in 12w07, so you may not yet want to vastly roam yet generating new chunks unless you want to completely dig to find ores and abandoned mines.
