Hello, so I have my own server but unfortunately the ocean is really far from spawn. I was thinking if it's feasible to edit the world somehow and "paint" it somewhere closer. I suppose it is not possible to just somehow regenerate piece of land and replace it with another biome is it? I know it is possible with worldedit or something to just change biome to something else, but this would only change the weather and grass colour, but terrain remains.
If you haven't built anything really complex yet, just change the seed and regenerate the world. There are a few seed finding programs out there, AMIDST is one, that you can put in seeds and it will predict the map for you.
If you have built a lot, then you can do the same thing, only using editing tools, add your old builds to the new world with the new seed. The problem there is getting the chunk boundaries to line up, it's tricky but can be done.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
I think you can clone chunks with worldedit, but unless you want to model the beaches and shores yourself on the new border terrain, it's not something you want to do. In my opinion it's better to generate a nether route between two portals to get to the ocean quickly. If you don't mind, you can also setup a TP command block.
If you want a full ocean which is generally very big, any editing route I think is going to take a lot of time and work. Best bet is like Palin said, just use a nether corridor to travel to the ocean you have quickly or set up some teleports at spawn.

Any ideas or this is just nonsense?

server is running for a year already, so we have built a lot. I don't think most of the players would like to start over...
I am just thinking about some of the mods which can copy paste. What about Limatica for example?

or WorldGuard. It can copy/paste regions can't it? How big can they be?
