Decided to try out the demo to see how it would run on my laptop went about mining reached a like iron/redstone then started hitting random blocks of bedrock just patched around in among the stone/iron/redstone etc etc is this normal for the demo version? Like can I only mine to a certain level? I remember in the normal game u could keep going down for a while and eventually hit bedrock like way down didnt think bedrock would spawn on the current mine level im at.
What level were you at when you started coming across bedrock (you can see your coordinates by pressing F3, or maybe Fn+F3 since you are on a laptop)? Bedrock can appear in a patchy, uneven level for the lowest 5-ish blocks, but the bottom layer will be 100% bedrock to keep people from falling in the void.

I'm pretty sure the demo is exactly like the real game (probably is the same game just with a flag set or something) just that you can't change the seed for the game so it's always the same world, you can only play something like 5 MC days before you have to start over and you aren't supposed to be able to play on servers.
And the bedrock should start at level 5 (and go down to level 0).
It's pretty sparse on the top layer with more and more for each level you go down until the bottom.

ahh I think im on level 5 just seemed odd cause I use to be able to mine endlessly of course till I hit bedrock but they didnt use to have it on the lower levels so I was confused I was like what is this XD I dont remember seeing bedrock here at this level when I use to play just a tad annoying cause then u have to redirect ur mining path XD
I just mine at level 5 so I never run into the bedrock except at the bottom of my stairs and when mining ores below my tunnels.
I don't think they changed where and how bedrock was placed?
was just randomly scattered around found it annoying was hoping to find shaft lol but everytime i go down hit a random bedrock block dig around it only to find another randomly placed bedrock a level below i remember you use to be able to dig straight down till u hit the floor of bedrock
When you hit bedrock there's no point in trying to dig any deeper, you will never be able to dig any more than 4 blocks further down.
(Unless you use cheats or exploits to break the bedrock, but there's nothing interesting under it anyway.)
Mineshafts can cut through the upper couple of bedrock layers but will always stick up above the bedrock so you'll find them even if you stay just above the bedrock.
If you were playing with mods before, or on a server, it's possible that the bedrock floor was flat, in standard Minecraft it's uneven as you found.
Sea level is at 64. So digging straight down (never a good idea), it only takes 59 broken blocks - less than a full stack - before you start hitting bedrock. And if you find a cave, they can go pretty deep pretty quick.
Generally best level to dig at is 11. You are below 15, so same chance to find good stuff as anywhere deeper, and you are not getting any lava surprises.

Just testing.

It has always been like this, all documented on the wiki.
