Hi. I am trying to search for text on a sign that I use to play on, which was Jinivus. Thankfully the world download is still available, so I downloaded the world, placed it into my saves folder, and was able to see spawn, which is still the same as before. Sadly, I cannot remember where my old base was, so I was hoping for a mod or a program to search for text on a sign. I have already tried NBTExplorer, and it crashes everytime I try to open the players folder. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
I haven't seen ANY mods AT ALL that allow you to do that. All I can suggest is that, if you're playing on Java Edition, is to mark it with a banner. Here's a link to show you how to do it. Link Removed
BTW tell me if the link doesn't work and I'll try and fix it.
You want to look in the "region" folder, not "players" since you are looking for something present in the world itself (all that is stored in the player data is the inventory, XP levels, spawn point, and some other stuff).
That said, it seems that NBTExplorer hasn't been updated since 2017 and may no longer be compatible with newer versions as they may have added or changed NBT tags (the only significant change listed in the Wiki's history for the NBT format, which is by no means complete, is that strings may now have single quotes instead of double quotes, prior to that was the addition of a "long" array tag but the last update for NBTExplorer mentions adding support for it), I only found this issue in relation to crashing when attempting to perform a search, then canceling it before it completes, there seem to be some other weird bugs though, such as crashing when opening a region file with negative coordinates (I have the latest version and it has no issues opening such a file, albeit with a world created/last run in 1.6.4, which points to a compatibility issue with newer versions; region files must be handled differently by NBTExplorer since the "header" is not in the NBT format, only the individual chunks which it points to are).

This is only useful once you know where something is, and assuming the version is recent enough to support it (since 1.13). Also, the link is "removed" because for some reason they blacklisted "Sportskeeda" (you can still see the actual link by quoting a comment and switching to "view as markup" / the "[BB]" icon).
Your problem may be that the text was modified by whatever plugin was used to manage the protections, so it is coloured or italic or otherwise not the plain text that the player added to the sign in-game. This might change what you would search for. If you already checked an example protection sign can you verify it looks like you expect?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Instead of searching for a sign, use a map tool to render your world
