The meaning of life in Minecraft, the eternal quest, the base of all our desires is...
Coal.
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SMOKING, MON? Ask me that.
Let me explain. In Minecraft, first you punch wood. You use the wood to make a workbench. You use that work bench to make a wooden pick. You use that wooden pick to get stone and coal. You use the stone to make a stone pickaxe. You use the stone pick to get stone, iron, and coal. You use the iron to make an iron pick. You use the iron pick to get iron, diamonds, and coal. You use the diamonds to make a diamond pick. You use the diamond pick to get coal, iron, diamonds, and obsidian. What is the universal thing there? COAL. COAL is by far, the most USEFUL thing in the game, other than logs. Why? Because they are used for torches, which keep you alive. You NEVER have too much coal. You can have too much stone, iron, hell, if you are really that amazing, DIAMONDS! But you ALWAYS need coal. Coal, unlike these other things, don't redeem itself, because you don't have the huge chance of getting what you just used back just by the virtue of what you made with it. You ALWAYS have to light your areas or fuel your furnace, because you need to use the furnace for the iron, or you don't want to get murdered in your cave and lose all your stuff.
Has M-IN-e-CEPTION blown your mind yet? If not, have a chest full of chests full of wood to make chests to store logs to make wood to make chests to store stuff to be able to hold diamond to get COAL.
EDIT:This is the "practical" spin to the meaning of Minecraft. The real meaning, we all know, is to build, be creative, and enjoy yourself.
Very interesting, but I disagree. Everything in minecraft, every block, whatever it might be, is a means to be which we move ahead with the quest. The quest is to build, to be creative, and to be creative is to be entertained.
I think that part is obvious. But whenever something is just for fun, we still try and put a "practical" spin to it, and that's what this is. I'll edit the OP.
