If you want cool looking pillars like the following pictures, then I have compiled a five-step guide to someone who knows almost nothing about commands or command blocks. If you know how to use a command block the command is: /execute @e[type=Slime] ~ ~ ~ /fill ~1 ~-1 ~1 ~-1 ~-1 ~-1 <block>
Pictures of command with <block> set to stonebricks 1:
Turn off mob spawning:/gamrule doMobSpawning false
Kill all slimes in your world (You may have to run this command more than once):/kill @e[type=Slime]
Give yourself a command block and set is to Repeating and Always Active: /give @p minecraft:command_block
Set the command in the command block to: /execute @e[type=Slime] ~ ~ ~ /fill ~1 ~-1 ~1 ~-1 ~-1 ~-1 <block>
Make sure you replace the <block> to the block you want the pillars made out of
Spawn some slimes wherever you want these cool pillars.
Extra:
If you replace the [type=Slime] with [type=Bat] you get something like this:
Here is if you spawn a lot of bats in one location:
If you want to make something where the middle of the tower is different for the outer layer you need to set the <block> in the first command to something like glass, and add replace air after the <block> part of the first command. You also need to place another Repeat and Always Active command block with the following command (replace the <block> with the block you want like before): /execute @e[type=Slime] ~ ~ ~ /setblock ~ ~-1 ~ <block>
